This philosophy he had that he wondered how to beat a nuclear weapon. What to do in the face of overwhelming power. Well become atomic himself. I just love it so much.
I know we have to glaze the king, but he straight-up called it "nuke," not something fancy like "nuclear weaponry." Let's not misrepresent the king, please🤣
It actually does matter what his style is. Cid was not born with immense power in the isekai world. He was not handed a single iota of his strength. The reason he's so powerful is because of his extremely efficient use of the magic he does have. And part of that is his swordplay. While others put immense amounts of magic into their sword to boost their stats, Cid is good enough that he doesn't have to. He can use the minimum effort possible to block, evade, and redirect. If he wasn't so talented with the sword, that would be impossible.
Yeah. It's kinda the opposite of what SOS Bros said. It's everyone else's swordstyles that work only because they are extremely strong and fast. They never needed to refine it or apply deep tactics and philosophy, because their stats made it a competition of who is stronger. Cid can outsword them while using less strength and speed than they are, because he comes from a world without over the top superhumans and has deeper understanding of combat tactics thanks to that.
@@Carsu12 It's not just that, its also the fact that he's already studied all sorts of sword styles and amongst all of them, he's identified the common sword style as the most efficient, in that it may have no strengths, but it also holds no weaknesses in the hands of a master. It is the best swordstyle for fighting anything, like enemies you don't even know anything about. Like how the heavy sword has the built-in weakness for being slow but strong, the swift sword being fast but hits lightly compared to other swordstyles, and the illusion sword being strong against opponents that can't see through its tricks, but is easily dealt with by people who has the perception to break through it. The common sword is a balanced one that holds none of the strengths of these swords, but also none of their weaknesses, it can be faster, stronger and harder to deal with simply depending on the efforts of the wielder to sharpen it.
I blame this one on the bros for not putting one and one together. Cid being Chuuni, he trained his skills to perfection even before coming to this world which make him stand out among others isekais tropes. In the end of episode 1, he sort of hinted that he trained everyday every martial arts to hone his skills. Come on guys he even pick a fight against military guy
To be fair, they don't really cover it as well in the anime compared to the manga, where early on there's more scenes of his training, him thinking he's ordinary in class despite being crazy bulked up, etc etc. the comedic undertones can make it seem in the anime that he's just winging everything, at times.
@@wardenm also that yeah but come on even if this is a fantasy, there is no way a child is winning against a adult even worse, he is trained in military so he knows martial arts
@@deity0 I mean to be fair there it's not impossible for a kid to win against an adult in reality it's just very unlikely. People have died from unlikely good hits or sneaky hits before.
I guess they missed the locket? After Alpha defeated the being and reverted it back into a girl, the locket shown was the same as the guy from episode 2. Also another fun note, the pink haired girl at the end, she appeared in the background of episode 3 when Alexia was leaning towards Cid in the Library. (Also I am sure they figured it out by now, but the silver haired elf girl is Beta, people often get confused, mixing her and Delta, the wolf girl, up early on because Alpha saying Delta was in the area, and then Beta shows up later that night.)
5:38 It's kinda the opposite - He is that powerful precisely because of his skills. Cid has an extremely deep understanding of fighting styles and he utilizes the very core of those skills when he fights. I don't recall if its already stated or a little further ahead, but in this world people aren't very skilled (on average) and when they fight, the "bigger number" usually wins. Cid however, because he attempted to delve deep enough into all possible styles to be able to combat an Atomic Bomb of all things, is able to push all magic beyond its limits thus becoming such a powerful being, even though Alpha, for example, would surpass him in raw power (iirc)
TBF his power is also partially due to his equipment (made out of slime, a highly mana-conductive material, manipulated via mana to control the shape & hardness/sharpness etc), but fair enough. Also fair enough, as a male Cid is already at a disadvantage vs the descendants of the 3 Heroes, hell even Claire is pretty mid despite being female since humans are too short lifespan and thus their lineage purity will obviously get contaminated faster than therianthropes or elves
@@skebaba918 Yeah, but Cid is the one who engineered the slime equipment. Before him, the most magic conductive material was mithril, which is only like 51% conductive or something, compared to the slime's 99% conductiveness.

As You've described, "slime, a highly mana-conductive material, manipulated via mana to control the shape & hardness/sharpness etc"... This is a part of Cid's abilities. He hones magic control to levels unmatched by anyone else in the world, and the Cult didn't, because of 2 points above. Not needed due to being pinacle, and not insane enough to try.
It was stated earlier in the show that the fighting styles in this world are very unrefined and over-reliant on magic. CID was just using his style there, which happens to be similar to Alexia’s. His style is one that could outclass everyone else even if he wasn’t overpowered, just based on technique and mastery. He likes her style because it’s a good one that doesn’t fall into the common traps that everyone else has fallen into. She has unlimited room for growth while the others like her sister are limited by him much magic they can hit with.
Let’s not pretend power doesn’t matter. He himself said in the light novel that if he was faced with the ultimatum of “Power or technique, choose one,” he would choose power 10 times out of 10. “Technique with no power is worthless” -Cid Kagenou. He is way more than just a finesse guy or an unga bunga fighter.
"I am Atomic" was instantly iconic. I'm not sure whether to praise the voice actor or sound designers for that one. Sometimes, all you need to sell your cringe is *commit to the bit.*
You know, there are some lines in anime that really make you go "I really wish I was there to hear the Voice Director's thought process." This is one of those lines. Why have him whisper the last word? I genuinely want to hear the thought process behind that decision.
This show is just... fun. The light novels are even more fun mostly cause of the exposition which is somehow even more ridiculous than the show in some ways. God! I love this series so much.
The best part about this show is you can't tell if its a dumb show being written by a genius or a good show being written dumb on purpose and thats why its so good at both comedy and seriousness you come for the isekai tropes but its does them with more weight and proper pathos that events don't just happen, its not "and then this happened" its "this happened, so then this occured" and you see it best with once the arc ends, Alpha and the team are going over notes of a group using their teams name, this only happened because they've been doing this for the past 4 years since they left Cid that their name is known around outside of Midgar, and likewise because Zenon was found out to be a rat that Iris now changes the way info moves within her organization to keep things more tight lipped, everything actually has importance and events don't only happen when the MC is around but his actions cause ripples through out the world
Giga Chad Alexia : Sees the ultimate sword Technic "'I am Atomic'" --> goes "'I need to train my Swordsmanship; RIGHT NOW!'" grabs next best sword and goes at it.
It loops from cringe into cool just because he owns it 100% if this was an american made show he'd look deadass into the camera and say "or something like that"
It was a turning point for Alexia and her much stronger sister Iris. Alexia is starting to build confidence and gaining power by her own doing whereas Iris, after putting into place by Alpha, is slowly losing it from here on.
Actually a cool detail here is that shadow never used magic until his "i am atomic", so he was actually just using "pure skill" to top a magic user, and thats why Alexia was so drawn to it
