Wow, never knew of this aircon and fridge situation I will be retiring in the Philippines in 2 years and planning to live in BGC, this info is well appreciated especially we left the Philippines 40 years ago , time had changed and your channel had given us so much to consider. Thank you.
Yes Window type aircons are really very expensive to use even if it's brand new, even for smallest room coz I used a small new midea one but it overheated and now im using a 1HP Carrier inverter Aircon is a much bigger bedroom and I even use it in the afternoon for naps but the consumption is way way less than the usual price.
We’re in Uptown Parksuites 2. Small one bedroom unit. 2 inverter A/Cs (running almost constantly) fridge, stove, Dyson air purifier, microwave, air fryer, washer/dryer, coffee maker … electric 5K Php. Welcome Mergim (if you take a unit here) See you on the elevator ! PS Our rent is $700/mo.
I was aware of inverter AC units being more efficient than non-inverter types but never in my wildest dreams was I ever aware of the extent. Good information great video.
Yes, the window non inverter Aircon is very high in maintenance and it easily gets overheated even for small rooms specially if the brand isn't that good. I now use my sister's inverter split type Carrier room and my bills from P3,000-3300 became instantly now has gone to P2500 and the air is way cooler. Buying a non inverter small window type isn't practical in the long run.
Including to your list the inverter refrigerator with freezer always on 24/7, all of my appliances that I’ll be using the most were switched to inverters and decided to install solar panels to achieve lower electric bills to help ease the carbon emissions from power plants. Your subscribers will definitely thanked you Sir Mergim for choosing a property with AC inverter ☺️
I have watched your videoes since you moved to BGC. You urge us to subscribe you. So now I finally pull my self together. Before I didnt knew BGC really, except from Market Market and the SM Aura. But you have showed how amazing the design of the city is with the arcitechture and so much green areas, which is a rare experience in rest of Metro Manila. Im in Philippines next april and because of you, me and my wife will have a stay in BGC to experience the cool looking area. Thumps up for your videos. Greetings from Denmark
Very useful info, thank you. I'm about to leave for the Philippines (Cebu to attend the Sinulog festival) in January and plan to stay abroad for six months out of the year and renting condos short term is part of the plan so I'm learning a lot from you. Hoping to bump into you at BGC sometime in the future.
You're right. It's more practical for you to have an air-conditioning unit inverter since most of the time you are out of your condo anyway. Transferring units will save you a lot of money to even help bring Dollar to the country. 😎☺️🇵🇭
I checked the meralco bill for my 1brh unit that I am renting out. It has 2 window ac, a fridge and a stove. I was glad the bill came to only around 4k in Oct 22. I am sure I provided the tenants with inverter appliances. I remember I paid a little more for those. I realize their benefits now coz of this video
North or South facing windows in condos are the best bet. You won't be dealing with the full brunt of the afternoon sun and it will help with your AC situation. Goodluck with looking for a condo.
Hi Mergim, Thank you for highlighting the blindspots of the hidden costs of living in BGC .I planning to move South East Asia from Vancouver , Canada on a $ 1200 Canadian budget but I think I ,d rather move to Vietnam or Thailand since they look more affordable than the Philippines . Thank you for your guidance and educational videos Pirouz 🙏
BGC is a high end place in Manila, if you wish to live in that budget, there are many other condos in Manila where in you can rent. For as low as 250-300 $ apartment or condo nearby just like in ortigas area, manadaluyong or in q.c.
Hi fellow Vancouverite...on that budget you can definitely live in most of South East Asia countries. You're moving for long or short time ? I'm base in Bangkok Thailand and loving it. Take care.
Be careful because even some units near burgos circle, I see that people complain about bills always over 17k as well. My unit is really good and it's always around 3 to 5k! Also pet friendly if you wanna look into it. Ill let you know.
Very informative video! Never knew there were different types of AC unit. I'll be renting in Manila shortly so will definitely check the AC beforehand. Thanks for sharing!
Inverter units are things people tend to over look when selecting an apartment until they get a look at their utility bill. Definitely something you want to add tour checklist when searching for a place to live, good heads up.
Thank you for the information about renting a condo at BGC. That's the problem having a non-inverter air condition unit, cost a lot of electricity. I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Turn off a/c and then turn on fan once temperature is reached. You can also turn on the fan at the same time as the a/c, it cools down the room faster. Then you can turn off the a/c. The fan will move the cool air around the room. Use a standup electric fan.
I did the math before I bought my ACU and my other appliances and what you said is exactly the reason why I got the inverter types. They may be pricy but in reality they are more practical you save a lot more money. Besides it's just a one time investment compared to having to pay a huge monthly electricity bill for years to come.
Try and get that condo you showed the other day that was owned by your friend..or better yet get a 2 bedroom and split with Justin! But the one on the 42nd floor is really nice also if it’s within your budget
Mergim explains INVERTER AC units... and his P17,000 Bills on a 37 sq unit. (Does MEG add a premium?). Note: we pay about P1,200 a month for a 59 sq unit. I am home all day, but use a fan, not AC all day. But I am frugal.
( I am amazed at some of the Bills some people get, and when I hear how they use them, I gain a tiny smidge of temporary respect for Greta Thunderbird, sometimes.)
I was living in Dumaguete in a 260 sq. ft. apartment. It had a non-inverter wall A/C unit and non-inverter refrigerator. I used the A/C when I was home. My bill was around 3500 pesos a month. Did you have the A/C on when you were not there in the apartment?
For those who are wondering... His Electric rate is 11.02 pesos per kWh. Customer type: RESIDENTIAL. He probably has a 2HP non-inverter AC running at the Coldest setting 24/7 making it consume 1.5kW per hour. That's easily 1125kWh(12,764 pesos) for 32 days (Oct 28 to Nov 28). The remaining kWh can be attributed to his non inverter Refrigerator. Also, if you look at his bill carefully... He has an unpaid balance of 4k+ pesos. It all adds up. It's not an anomaly or its not because Meralco is charging him a commercial rate... It's because he left his AC running 24/7 at the Coldest setting. If he has a 2HP Inverter AC and he run it at the Coldest setting 24/7. He might get 20 to 30 percent reduction from his bill. Inverter AC shines when you set it around 26-28 degrees celsius. You'll get around 40 to 50 percent reduction in electricity consumption.
For us westerners, we leave the AC on all the time because we want to enter into a room that is already cool. I will pay money not to have to enter a warm room. If I do, I may begin to sweat. 😀
I just stayed in tower 1 over looking the pool and uptown mall for the past 2 Weeks and it was great. I really do like park suites and the unit layouts. Also mergim you are much taller in person than I realized ha bumped into you the other night when we were walking 😂 would have said hi but I didn't want to disturb you ha
Yeah i knew it its always the AC some guys comment here about they are using AC also but small electric bill, guys usage of AC may differ from every person to person, there is alot of variable that can change the output of your AC like mergim said the type of AC, room ratio, watt of AC, HP of AC, how efficient is the AC.
well if i am not mistaken aside from the fact that those units are nlt inverter in that condo we do also have the high power cost compared to other countries. I think that we should really switch to nuclear plants.
Atrocious bill indeed or in colloquial Tagalog “nabudol ka” by your landlord. Best to move out and make sure you tell your lady friend who’s been your agent to share this with the next landlord to give the previous landlord a lesson. It’s unacceptable really and nothing more than highway robbery. Sorry this has to happen to you Mergim. I have two aircons they’re old and not inverter but my monthly bill is between 7 to 9k only.
Once u lived in condo, its more expensive rathen than bungalow type own meter of electricity, i lived in my own with 5 lights, 1 aircon, 2 ref inverter, 1 microwave, 1 oven for my baking, i had hotpot , washing machine, had speaker with 2 e-bike to charge and my maximum cost of electricity bill is 2,800+
Its true about Inverters and Non-Inverter AC units....non inverter units will eat your money for the monthly bill like hell...lots of people including us have converted to inverter ac units coz I know what a non inverter ac unit can do to our electricity bill...especially when Meralco is a greedy pig...they don't know how to calculate properly...or should I say they will calculate blindly and make your electricity bill higher than the usual monthly bill...so yeah, nice decision on finding another condo with inverter ac units...btw, our washing machine is also inverter and our fridge as well...
It’s craziness! Why would you even buy a non inverter AC unit?! I just wonder when One Uptown was built? My house was built in 2018 and they already had inverter AC unit in the stores. Panasonic brand cost me 35k pesos each. Also I have an inverter fridge. I also have 3 ceiling fans and 1 floor fan. The highest bill I’ve paid was 2,500 pesos 😂 and that’s when I had my fam from YVR visiting for 1 month.
1238 kWh for 1 month is very high power consumption, especially for the size of the condo unit. Weren't you in Thailand for most of October? I noticed in your electric bill that your September consumption was quite reasonable at around 400 kWh. That's about 1/3 of your October consumption. Even the August consumption is less than half of October. Your latest bill is actually 13k, and the additional 4k was the remaining balance from September. So I'm guessing September was a good month as far as electricity cost (4k), and something was different in October (13k) while you were away in Thailand.
You're living alone in that kind of amount of electric bills?it's shocking indeed the reason why I'm not using split type kind of AC unit that absolute extortion lookin forward for the next amazing vlogs as usual all the best!
Been watching every morning with my breakfast you since you came in PH. On our flat screen though but I don't wanna sign in my account there cause my mom's gonna see other stuff I watch. 😝 Vloggers don't get monetized when watching with a guest accounts?
Thanks for the breakdown. Holy cow, thats outrageous. I just flew in yesterday and I am starting to look. I knew that there was a difference but not that much. 65K is bit out of my budget, I can afford it though I prefer not to. I would like to stay around around 40K in the BGC area. If you are anyone knows of any good leads I would truly appreciate it. Thanks
Contact the email in description as there are quite a few places in BGC for that price range and I personally know one right now that’s fully furnished for 35k / mth
Man, this is a really nice unit. If I end up moving to the BGC I'm going to keep this place in mind. I'm torn between GBC and Cebu. I'm a fashion photographer (shoot other styles aswell) so the BGC would be great for that. But I also love the outdoors and want to explore and do stuff in nature. I just don't know.
Problem with the building is The Island noise every night (but I’m on much lower floor) and 2 of the elevators are always broken. Tower one all the elevators work.
Mergim, your Meralco Bill is High because condos within BgC is under Commercial Rate not Residential. Pls. ask your agent first if it’s Residential or Commercial rate or if it’s Sub metered.
I was about to rent within BgC but was informed it’s 3X higher for the electricity and water bill because its commercial rate.I’m using 2 non inverter aircons right now with only 5k monthly bill.I live 7mins away bgc
Just look at the customer type in his Electric bill. It says "Residential". Also, 11.08 pesos per kWh is the same rate all across Metro Manila using Meralco. 13,719.81 pesos is his true bill for Oct 28 to Nov 28. Plus his 4,148 pesos unpaid balance from the previous month/s. If he is using a 2HP non-inverter AC which is around 1.5 kW per hour... Running at 24/7 that's easily 1080kWh the remaining 158kWh can be from his non inverter Refrigerator running at 200W per hour(granted that there are no lights running) It all adds up.
@@minahtorres6872 I live in McKinley Hills... I have a non inverter AC running 24/7 but it's set to 28C. My bill is around 4k to 5k. Mergim must have set it to coldest setting making it run max power all the time.
If only you can find a condo with the same monthly rent, then it'll be practical to move. If the owner if your condo doesn't want to carry the burden of replacing it with an efficient one, maybe consider shouldering it...If you can't really negotiate with them. I know you shouldn't be spending something that you couldn't really take with you, when you eventually move out but if you'll pay like 40k/ month with your next condo and accumulate it for months/ years, then it seems like you just paid a higher electricity bill by having a higher rent. 35k/ month is really a steal in that area but it would be great if only you'll find lesser than 35k or 35k at the most.
Nahhh... It all adds up... 13k+ pesos is his true bill for Oct 28 to Nov 28. Plus his previous balance of 4k+ pesos. 2HP non inverter AC running Coldest setting 24/7 is easy 1080kWh plus 158kWh for other appliances running including the Non AC refrigerator.
Its not just the aircon causing that 17k meralco bill. CHECK THE WATER HEATER IT MIGHT TURNED ON ALL THE TIME. I estimate your bill should just be around 5k
Nahhh it adds up he has a 2HP Non inverter AC running Coldest setting 24/7. That's easily 1080kWh or 11,900+ pesos... The other 158kWh might be other appliances running like the Non inverter Refrigerator running at 200watts per hour. Also, he had an unpaid balance of 4k+ pesos on top of his 13k+ monthly bill.
I have 3 split a/c's in my unit, in Makati. Average monthly less than 5,000. Bedroom on every night for 8-10 hrs. In living room 2hp on and off as it is freezing, but constantly on with guests. Using constantly washer/dryer, microwave, toaster, bluetooth everywhere, chargers, Alexa, etc. I do have every 3 or 4 months a/c maintenance. You sure there is no illegal connection attached to your meter reader??
1238 kWh consumption for a month is also high. Did you leave on your aircon 24/7 even when you were in Thailand? I guess you weren’t aware of electricity rates beforehand coz otherwise you’d turn it off when not in use. The PESO DEPRECIATION also caused generation charges to go high. And not sure if I’ll explain this right but someone told me before that the higher your consumption is, the higher your basic rate (per kWh) will be. And since you also live in a condo, it’s possible they already apply a higher rate for you guys and check whether your share for condo BUILDING electric bill is shared by you guys or comes out of your monthly admin fee. So many hidden charges somewhere. That bill is still outrageous for that size condo. Meralco also has calculator on their app which you can use to calculate your consumption to have a ‘GENERAL’ idea of your consumption/bill.

So I'm guessing September was a good month as far as electricity cost (4k), and something was different in October (13k) while you were away in Thailand.
You are correct. He probably forgot to shut off the AC before his Thailand trip.
His Aircon has window type non inverter unit it really is expensive to use. I've personally experienced that when I switched to inverter split type.
@@yeahright532 …. Blockchain mining…. Or a/c left coldest setting 24 hours a day for whole month. Choose one.
You're living alone in that kind of amount of electric bills?it's shocking indeed the reason why I'm not using split type kind of AC unit that absolute extortion lookin forward for the next amazing vlogs as usual all the best!
Great info on the air conditioning units
I worry about evacuation procedure a high rise building. Being a 87 yo senior, I am concerned.
Let's make this nice man 100 thousands subscribers 💯
Been watching every morning with my breakfast you since you came in PH. On our flat screen though but I don't wanna sign in my account there cause my mom's gonna see other stuff I watch. 😝
Vloggers don't get monetized when watching with a guest accounts?
Love that condo. I hope you can stay there.
As much as I love cebu, I would never trade it for BGC. And besides cebu is only a 2k peso flight away :)

Very nice spacious with awesome view 😍😍❤️
Problem with the building is The Island noise every night (but I’m on much lower floor) and 2 of the elevators are always broken. Tower one all the elevators work.
17,000 peso electric bill I just fainted. I thought ours was high at 7,000 peso when two yrs ago was 3,500 peso how times have changed.
Mergim, your Meralco Bill is High because condos within BgC is under Commercial Rate not Residential. Pls. ask your agent first if it’s Residential or Commercial rate or if it’s Sub metered.
I was about to rent within BgC but was informed it’s 3X higher for the electricity and water bill because its commercial rate.I’m using 2 non inverter aircons right now with only 5k monthly bill.I live 7mins away bgc
you may also ask your agent regarding previous meralco bills of the former tenant so you have an idea
His bill is high because he used 1238 kwh at 11 pesos a kwh and refused to turn off the AC.
I like this one Mergim.
Oh now that is knowledgeable...perhaps need to notify my sister and hubby that they better check this before they have the same fate like yours ......
why aren't AC systems in PH centralized?? I hate that so much
If only you can find a condo with the same monthly rent, then it'll be practical to move.
Very informative video. 👍
That P17,000 Meralco nill is ridiculous considering how small your unit is with only 1 A/C.
Try turning off your unit’s circuit breaker, if the whole building shutdown then that’s a classic electricity tapping 😂😂😂
Oh man, that's a very expensive electricity bill! Scary! 😨
Seems to be a megaworld issue. Our unit in Newport also came with a non-inverter unit
Godbless you mergim!
Excellent information 👍 thank you
I have 3 split a/c's in my unit, in Makati. You sure there is no illegal connection attached to your meter reader??
........goood mornin Chairman Mergim......... :)
We’re actually staying for several nights at the same tower 2; ‘might run into you!
Well said mate!
