    This is a phenomenal product. I just got mine yesterday, and it is exactly what I have been asking for for years. I have mine connected to my work MacBook Pro and my personal Mac Mini with my Caldigit TS4 downstream which hosts my two Studio Displays and other peripheral connections. It works *flawlessly.* I was fully prepared to have to deal with some workarounds or magic incantations to get this to work, but it worked right out of the box with no problems. This is a rarity these days with specialty products in my experience. This thing rules.

      Wait, so if I'm picturing this correctly, you have 2 computers plugged into this KVM switch, and you then plugged 1 out of the 3 thunderbolt output from the KVM switch into the Caldigit TS4, and finally output to your monitor from the TS4...? That actually works...? I imagine this setup chain to have some bandwidth/throughput instability, can you comment on it? This would be absolutely bananas, dual computers(KVM) + huge selection of ports(TS4).

    • @roberthill3380
      @roberthill3380 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct. That's exactly what I have been doing, and I haven't hit any bandwidth limits thus far even with storage. It basically just works, I don't think I have even thought about the setup since I made this comment, so that should tell you a bit about it's stability :)@@Gunbardo

    Kudos for Sabrent for FINALLY stepping up unlike others to provide a Thunderbolt 4 KVM. The two blatant cons is not supporting 3 devices switching input and not supporting 100W+ power.
    3 devices would have been far more phenonomal to account for creative professionals and engineers that usuallyswitch from Windows, MacOS/Linus, and their laptop. 100W is needed for the high-end laptops productive users interested in this would likely use such as a M1+ Max Macbook; Thunderbolt 4 absolutely supports this, so it's a bummer that's not supported.
    Hopefully Sabrent creates an upgraded variant of this KVM in the future. They've already done productive users a HUGE solid making this product exist. Now they NEED to get this in the hands of hardware editors like the The Verge's head hardware editor that has been looking for a KVM like this for years to spread the word!

    The fact that the switch gets uncomfortably hot and makes electrical hum are minor issues. The biggest problem is that it burned out my msi z690i unify motherboard once I plugged it into TB4 port. The mobo is dead now.

  • @michaelrajgroves5490
    @michaelrajgroves5490 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    For me, there are two design faults as someone who uses a KVM switch daily. First, the switching button should be able to be disconnected because I use my switch under my desk and if your switch button could disconnect I could just drill a hole and position it so little or no cable is showing. Secondly, all the ports should be on one side even the KVM switch I use has the same design fault. So as mine is placed under my desk having cables coming from the rear means they can't be seen but having the two separate PC cables coming from the front means cable management is a problem. I know your products are premium, I love your products but all manufacturers should consult users when designing technology as its the end user who knows what works and what does not, best wishes and I enjoy the videos, cheers

      This product feels like it's trying to be both a KVM and a dock. I'm happy this product exists, but I wish that it was a simple "Two in / one out, bus powered" KVM, and then let the user plug a docking station into the output to customize it. (And yes, the tethered switching button is a huge design flaw)

    Looks great, my only feedback for a v2 would be to have all cables coming off the back, including the integrated button cable, for better cable management. As it stands it's not very elegant having the two cables plugging into the front. Save the front for any peripheral ports for usb drives and mouse dongles.

    On a different note, the product description on the Sabrent website does not specify if the box contains the 2 thunderbolt cables and different power cables as mentioned in this video. I wrote to Sabrent's support team, who responded that the box contains what is described on their website. That turned out to not be true, the box contains exactly what is shown in this video, so now I've ended up with an extra Thunderbolt cable I bought separately and don't need now.

    This looks like a decent V1 but in as d to see the remote is using an integrated wire.
    Personally, this is so close to the product I’ve been looking for for years but I’ll wait for the V2 and hope that three computers are supported at 120hz with 100w charging. Theses are basic must haves for so many people that I’m pretty shocked they were omitted from this device, unless it’s that thing where a company make an almost great product so they can go back to the early adopters and sell them the V2 a few months later?
    A few bonus features would be hotkey switching, keeping windows in the same layout when switching and if you really want to impress me, HomeKit support!

    • @user-bt8xn8gh3f
      @user-bt8xn8gh3f หลายเดือนก่อน

      The wire is integrated to prevent ppl plugging in longer cables that are not TB4 compliant. Then they'd be constantly inundated with support requests that had nothing to do with their product. If I was designing this product, I'd integrate that cable too. Known, fixed length and quality = guaranteed to work.

    • @EdKenUK
      @EdKenUK หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-bt8xn8gh3f remind me not to buy any product you design in that case. Making a product that will break due to a fixed cable that can’t be replaced is basically producing e-waste that gives a bad user experience. I’d rather be able to respond with a macro to questions about a third party cable suggesting they use a high quality cable of the correct length than have to deal with legitimate returns from users who have a damaged fixed cable. An email is much cheaper than a full refund. You’re objectively wrong.

    Is it also compatible with a Thunderbolt dock? i.e. can I put a TB3 dock connected to one of the "device" Thunderbolt 4 ports, so that all of the devices connected to my TB3 dock (monitor via DisplayPort, monitor via the Dock's downstream TB3 port, dock's audio connections, dock's Ethernet port, etc,) or will it not pass through both DP Alt mode & TB both to a port?
    I have a setup now where everything goes through my dock, I have to switch the dock from work laptop to personal laptop to personal desktop. I rarely use both the work laptop and personal laptop at the same time, so my use case would be one of the "PC" ports always connected to my personal desktop, the other "PC" port I would switch between my work and personal laptops.
    Right now, switching to my personal desktop is annoying because its TB3 port is not easy to reach, I need to crawl under the desk to connect that. So just removing that part of the switching problem would be great.

      @@1stRanger consumer grade is the key. We're not talking industrial kvm for datacenters and server racks. Most KVM in this category don't have shortcuts.

    Ports at the front is an ugly solution. You can see at 3:42 that it isn't elegant at all. I would much prefer if the device was slightly wider and have everything at the back. One of the reasons why I am changing my KVM is because my existing one has ports for mouse and keyboard at the front. I do not want to have so many cables being visible on my desk.

    Im really not a fan of putting those ports on the front of the switch, creates unnecessary clutter

    Shows us what it does but doesn’t show us how to do it.

    Just bought mine and it has been far from easy to set up. I have the thunderbolt cable connected to my PC using a usb-c to usb-a adaptor. Its plugged into a usb 3.2 port and still there is no image on my monitor. Works with my work laptop but not my pc which was the whole point. Barely any PCs or graphics cards support usbc/thunderbolt 4. This thing cost more than my monitor and it simply just doesn't work. I suppose im luck though becuase at least im not one of people whos entire desktop was fried and then Sabrent refused to pay for the damage they caused.

    Got USB?

      This makes no sense. Thunderbolt 4 by design supports USB and all the optional features that are actually required with Thunderbolt. That is why Thunderbolt is preferred over USB-especially cables.

      Plenty of usb kvm switches on the market. If only TH-camr commenters knew how to google.

      @@htko89 I was being sarchastic like... Got Milk? ANyway, most KVM switches aren't very good, doing strange things like losing your keyboard or mouse when you switch, or making the display hardware disappear to windows and then reappear, or your resolutions changing and getting messed up. None of them are implemented very good which is why I decided not to get a new one.
