I forgot to mention this in the video, but I do want to stress that collectors and forgers is a spectrum. It’s not cut and dry. But you can understand those patterns at a lot of sites.
I read "A Boy and His Dog" when I first started reading scifi. It Horrified and Saddened me. But it got me hooked on the end-of-the-world books. I did not see the movie and I am glad of that. It was one of the few books that made me cry, I don't think I could have watched the movie knowing how it would turn out.
Been homeless for some time now. Do a lot of wild camping nowadays. Walking 20-30 miles a day. Wanna experience an apocalypse, experience homelessness for a few years. 😂
This is the truth. I did nearly the same thing, hitchhiked and rode freight trains for three years. The apocalypse is always happening, just not to everyone at the same time.
Yeah, I definitely should’ve mentioned those places you don’t have to pay to camp ( the only ones I really camp at ) but I think most people probably are familiar with the paying to camp type thing.

This is an awesome video, i dont know if theres any old Cracked fans here but this is giving me similar vibes to some of the great videos on that channel by Danial O'Brian or Micheal Swaim. Im loving the media analysis from an anthropology perspective, im so down for it
My dad fought in the South Pacific in WWII. He came home with some unidentified fungal infection that he called the creeping crud. He was never able to rid himself of the creeping crud.
Fantastic video! I think there's necessarily a huge overlap between people who are interested in anthropology and people who love apocalypse media, for all the great reasons you mentioned--primarily a yearning for our zoological roots. Great way to put it. The best example of dogs in apocalypse movies that I can think of, the prime example that jumped out to me years ago when I first saw it, and made me start noticing the presence (or absence) of dogs in those kinds of stories, is Children of Men. There are almost as many dogs in that movie as humans. I'm going to assume you've probably seen it, as it's such a well-known classic, but if somehow you haven't, I HIGHLY recommend it. Not only is it an incredible movie in general, but the central premise (humans are no longer having babies, the species is dying) is so well supported by the beautiful worldbuilding/storytelling (unremarked upon in-text, but very clear once you notice it) of the huge presence of dogs, which have clearly taken on the role that babies/children used to fill in human society and lives, that it's well worth a watch for that sake alone imo. It's a very touching and very profound piece of meta on a lot of levels.
You should do a series where you react to any media with dogs and give your take, eveything from this to Bluey to like inspector rex (if you dont know you have to look it up 😂)
"A boy and his dog" was one of my father's favorite movies. I think I was 9 or 10 the first time I saw it. I didn't understand much, but it was REALLY, REALLY depressing. Later viewings were even more sad to me. I'm not sure I agree it was misogynistic, though. I think it showed great disdain for everyone.
There always seem to be a group that remember the old ways and is trying to restore order and a group that want to take advantage of the fall of civilization and wants to be the new power and rule maker .
Great video - very interesting ! You should read Wolf Brother!
