My problem with the Starless Sea is that the fact that the two characters are supposed to be desperately in love, but there's no chemistry beyond what feels like just good natured friendship.

The internal birthday plan war! This year I finally went I don't want to make big plans. My brother and his girlfriend friend took the kids for the day and overnight. I spent the day reading and snacking. Made a feast of frozen low energy food(we are over and hour from take out so this was a close as it got) and watched marvel movies with the hubby. Oh and ate mass abouts of the triple layer pumpkin cake with caramel frosting I made the day before ( Nov birthday). And it was perfect!

Such a shame that you didn't enjoy The Starless Sea! I had the opposite experience with both of her books, loved TSC but didn't enjoy TNC! Those earrings were beautiful :) Ahhh I really need to get around to finishing off The Ember in the Ashes series, I read the first one years ago but never continued.

I really disliked Every Heart a Doorway as well- I'm yet to read The Starless Sea but I don't know if I will as I have heard more negative than positive feedback about it.

I LOVE the Ember in the Ashes series and those special editions are STUNNING. I am so sad that it seems like they are all sold out now? Also don't even know if I could have gotten them in the US, but dang. Wish I had known about them back when they were announced (although at that point I hadn't read the books yet haha).

Starless Sea boiled my head, I loved Night Circus. I couldn’t even finish the book and don’t ask how close I got in to it. Personally in my opinion....it was shit 🤭😳

I didn’t like Starless Sea either
everytime i see someone not liking the starless sea i feel weirdly validated. i read it for a book club and i dnf'd it at about page 200. it was one of the first books i decidedly dnf'd in a long time because it was so utterly pointless. everyone in the bookclub liked it and kept saying it all came together at the end. i'm not going to read 500 pages to get the point of a pointless story. i'm sorry.
Yes I agree. I found the starless sea so boring and confusing. Too many stories. Don’t get it. I hope the night circus is as good everyone says because this one was extremely disappointing.
