Yamaha is such a great company . From Grand pianos to motorcycles to water crafts to hi fi equipment . They made the engine for the iconic Toyota 2000 GT. Not a large company by Japanese standards but no company I can think of makes such a wide variety of highly desirable products !

I bought a 2003 Yamaha Banshee & a 2003 Yamaha Blaster.Even the smaller 200cc 6- speed 2- stroke, Blaster embarrassed many larger rivals!!! The 03 Banshee, twin 350cc Simply dominated any course & easily beat any would be competitors flat out!!! A few simple upgrades only made it faster & more scary!!!Hints it's namesake, the YAMAHA BANSHEE WAS THE KING OF THE HILL!!! After owning two Yamaha 4-wheelers & being completely satisfied, I had nothing but a great time on both of my Yamaha bikes!!!

Yes, Yamaha has come a long way since their first musical instruments and motorcycles. It’s hard to believe they only started making motorcycles back in 1955; the year before my Yamaha loving dad was born!

Ed Munoz -- Nice! I had an '89 FZR 400. Gotta love the 14,000 rpm redline! And I can't think of many bikes back then with an aluminum frame - something the FZR 600 lacked!
I owned my 400 for 3 years from new, and though I've had many bikes since then, the FZR 400 is the one I miss the most...

The FZR1000 I rode for many years looked just like it, except for scale. I was even asked a couple of times if it was an FZR400, since, as a big guy, it looked small enough with me on it, and I had removed many of the stickers.
      I always said yes.

Of all the sport bikes I've owned, this is the one I should have never ever sold. Mine was black with purple accents ( original Yamaha color); it was so light & quick you'd never know you were on a 600. At the time the buyer was really wanting to buy it & offered to pay more than what I paid new. And you know ... rest is history. I'd buy it again, hands down !

Thanks for this. The old reviews are a h00t to watch and very helpful if or when considering buying an old bike. And since I find the new models focus on tech excessive and not in the true spirit of motorcycling, not to mention the prices to pay for it, i pretty much only consider interesting old school rides these days.

I own a 92 For 600 and I'm born in 1991. lol Every time I ride it I get tons of compliments. Guys 40 and up stop me and say " o man I use to have one." Or they say that's what I started on. This Jamaican guy stoped me and said, " blood clott weh you get di genesis from ? " lol he went on and told me how he had one in Jamaica and he rode it all over the island. This is a fun bike to ride and great as a 1st bike. This bike will keep up with todays 600's and 750's with no problem. Sounds sweet into the red line in 1st gear straight off the line with the original exhaust. If you buy one be sure to change the voltage regulator and get it from a dealer not Ebay or Amazon. This is the Original R6. Bimota tuned this bike as the bimota YB9 Sr 600 if you ask me they did a better job and brought out the true potential in this bike. Don't be a pussy and get a 250-300-400 or 450 as a 1st bike, get a nice used 600 Yamaha is the Toyota to the Motorcycle world so that means its low key the best brand Ez to fix reasonable priced parts and reliable. Ive also herd that the parts are interchangeable with newer R6 parts.

There is one brand that still produces the factory spec sized tires. Schinko. Yeah it's a korean off brand, but they bought yokohama's molds and equipment on their motorcycle line. The rubber formula is a little more sticky, so doesn't last as long as other tires, but grips well.

One of my favorite bikes ever that I have owned. 👍 Bought a 92 FZR600 in 95 and it lasted me until 2005. IIRC it had 30K miles when I was done. I added a Vance& Hines exhaust and a Progressive rear shock with external reservoir. This bike would do 150mph. In minecraft. The CBR600F2 greatly overshadowed it, but it was still a great bike. Any 750 supersport bike would own it except in corner entry, braking, and mid turn changes. It was really light. It was an overgrown FZR400. It may have been over-classed by every 600cc super sport in the early 90's but this was an early 80's design. Yamaha finally dispelled all the rumors with the R1.

Only because of suspension. The fzr actually had better torque down low than the 99' and early 2000's r6. (Not sure about the later models) which actually made the fzr a much more fun bike to ride on the street where you were mostly in the mid and low revs. The suspension was the only thing made the r6 better on the street. On the other hand the r6's high revving engine made it dominate on the track where you spent most of the time wringing its neck.
