    I have a 94 fzr600 that ive had for 27 years. 85,000 miles on it now. Had the valves adjusted for the first time around 75K miles, and the mechanic said it was barely worth it to do. Thing still runs good after all these years.

    replaced the head gasket. After reassembling everything, I noticed a coolant leak near the far left spark plug. I can't pinpoint the exact source of the leak. Is there supposed to be a plug or fitting in the port to the left of the first spark plug? I've examined the area thoroughly but can't find where the coolant is leaking from."

    • @jh-tech5546
      @jh-tech5546  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are plugs with a hex socket next to each spark plug. These close up the coolant area. Did you remove them, normally they should never be removed. That's probably the source of the leak.

    Do you need to split the cases to replace shift fork or can you just remove the oil pan and clutch basket to repla e it? I have 2nd gear popping out.

    • @jh-tech5546
      @jh-tech5546  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it is possible to change the fork without splitting the case. And there is probably some damage on the gear too. Weaks spot for these engines it appears. I have another engine wit gearbox isssues I still have to open.

    Does the clutch basket have to come off for case split?

    • @jh-tech5546
      @jh-tech5546  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you can split the cases without removing the clutch basket. There is nothing behind holding the cases together like on some other engines.

    I only need how to change head gasket 1991 fzr 600. I'm not a expert, but have done alot of work on it. Daughter telling me give up on that thing. Maybe, but one more time.... How hard? Have to pull engine out? any posts ?

    • @katywalker8322
      @katywalker8322 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Head gasket not hard to change, and can be done with the engine in the frame (I have done it like that). However, if you are doing much work then it might be worth dropping the engine out (it is relatively easy to drop the engine out, which gives you more room to work).

      What about taking cams off, timing chain, Seems like not needed? simple version? If take all that off, how line up putting together? Says something about top dead center? I have lifter cover off Guess start with valves? I have the old engine that blew, still be able take that apart to see how put together?@@katywalker8322

    • @katywalker8322
      @katywalker8322 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@timo5532 there is a mark on the ignition flywheel for top dead centre, which lines up with a mark on the crankcases. At this point there are marks on the cams which align with marks on the cam caps.
      You do need to take the cams out to remove the head. But it is easy to remove the cams (needs to be done when you set the valve clearances anyway)

    • @timo5532
      @timo5532 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Set valve clearances? I tore down, cleaned head. Got the dots on cam align, and tdc like you said. AL together, then noticed the cups for the valves in box. Tore down again, in process putting together again. I must of let on cam hit ground, half the circle cracked off. Lucky have the old engine, garbed parts off that once again. So glad kept that engine, saved me with stator and half a dozen other parts. Getting that damn cams to seat back, behaves like chain to short. If I get this back together, it's going to run great. Tons of carbon cleaned up. Valve clearance adjust? @@katywalker8322

    • @katywalker8322
      @katywalker8322 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timo5532 , have you removed the cam chain tensioner? This must be out to put the cams in.
      For the valve clearances. You measure them each (setting the engine to the specified position for each valve before checking them). Then check the size of the shim installed and work out what shim you need to replace them with to get the correct clearance. As you have changed the cam from the one in that engine the clearances are likely to be wrong (and if you have mixed up the shims and buckets, the clearances will be all over the place)
