I love how you were talking about your dad taking you to watch the movie and not saying how much he hated the movie😂my father has had a few of those experiences too
Freeze and Ivy are actually my two favorite villains and I'm still waiting for someone to do them justice, but it seems like no one wants to touch them with 60 feet pole because of this movie.
My biggest memories of this movie back when it was originally released have nothing to do with the movie itself. I was ten at the time and, about a week or so after it came out (it might've even been the opening weekend), my Sunday School class went to Six Flags Over Georgia. Needless to say, it was being advertised up the yin-yang there, with billboards, commercials on every monitor you came across (I can still remember the announcer saying, "The Bat, the Best, the Bold, the Beautiful, and... the Cold,"), and such. I remember seeing a Batman stunt-show, as well as my cousin trying to talk me onto a Riddler-themed rollercoaster, the Mind-Bender, which I refused to ride, making him throw a tantrum. And then, late in the day, I threw up, likely because I got overheated. I never have and I never will eat funnel cakes ever again. So, that's what Batman & Robin means to me... that and it's a piece of shit. The last time I watched it, I was braindead the entire time.
I was 20 when it came out. I didn’t want to see it. The trailers looked terrible. But a buddy was insistent we go see it, so we did. We spent almost the entire runtime cringing. The only time we had any entertainment value was towards the end when Bane is placing explosives and burps out “BOOOOOOOOOMB”. I don’t know why, but that broke us; we just started laughing uncontrollably.
@@bigkmoviesandgames Not nearly like there had been with Batman 89 and Batman Returns. Forever was not universally beloved by any means, and another change in Batman was setting off warning bells. I'd say "cautiously hopeful" was the mood.
@@bigkmoviesandgames Forever's reputation has been greatly exaggerated. At the time, it wasn't hated. It was just "alright", so I think the hope was B&R would be also "alright", and maybe Clooney would be better. Nope.
I love Stuckmann and Flick Pick's tag team hilariosity review of this movie and I've watched it way more than the movie itself🤣🤣🤣 great video as always
Your bit about the "missing TH-camr" was comedy gold!! Great video as always Cody, this whole review series has been the best thing on TH-cam by far!!💯💯
As terrible as this film is, I still have nostalgia for it cause it was my second batman film. Haven't rewatched it since the early 2000s though so maybe I will hate it like everyone else seems too🤣 Surprised you didn't slam on how they massacred Bane and just turned him into a masked henchman Would love to see Mads Mikkelson get a shot at Freeze😄 Great video Cody! Can't wait to see your thoughts on 2022!
If they were trying to appeal to kids then they failed spectacularly. It's almost insulting to say this movie was made for kids when we had BTAS and Mask of the phantasm and Sub Zero at the time which felt way more mature despite being animated
I must admit, this & Batman forever are kinda guilty pleasures for me. Even as a kid, i knew this film was pretty goofy & over the top. Pretty bad but an entertaining movie, & Uma was a smokeshow in this film
14:01 If the 2 thugs from the 89 film had been confronted by the George Clooney Batman instead of being scared shitless like with the Michael Keaton Batman they'd have burst out laughing.
Another good review. Just like Batman Forever, it's definitely the bottom of the barrel. In fact if Burton's third and final Batman were to happen, we wouldn't have even gotten this. Everything about this movie is awful and it is a toy commercial. The only good thing we've ever gotten out of this movie in general was your intro 😆 funny as hell. I will say, though I don't think Clooney at all was good in the role or even fit in the role, his reason for his performance as Batman / Bruce Wayne makes total sense. He says he purposely got away from the dark side of Batman because at this point in his life, he's in his forties and he has billions of dollars, he has cool gadgets, a mansion, a butler, can date any woman he wants, and best of all, he's Batman. Then he stated something along the lines of he doesn't need to be brooding or have anybody feel sorry for him. He wanted to portray somebody who clearly moved on from his trauma and I respect his explanation but it still is no excuse for how horrible the performance was.
I grew up on reruns of the Adam West show so personally this movie wasn't bad to me. Definitely not the worst comic book movie ever made. Plus Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze is pure enjoyment! 🍿
I was the same way Cody. Batman forever was my favorite movie as a kid. I had all the toys i had posters. Then when this movie came out and i saw Arnold was in it my mind exploded. I still have love for these movies.
A flaw I noticed is it’s very unbelievable that characters don’t recognize Batman is Bruce Wayne because he never modified his voice to be different than Bruce Wayne’s voice.
I think that you really summed it up in saying that you really need to be a kid (or at least a big kid) to enjoy this movie. I was 15 when this hit theaters and I remember even back in '97 thinking it was my least favorite of the Batman movies. I enjoyed it enough at the time but it was the only Batman movie that I didn't go out and buy on VHS. I caught it on TV a few years later in my late teens and all of the campiness, corny one-liners and shameless merchandising was absolutely cringe inducing. I haven't watched it since.
You're right about the positives. The scene where Bruce and Alfred just talk has some really good dialogue and emotion and I get a little choked up when he tells Alfred he loves him. Legitmely a great scene and one of the better character scenes in any of the pre Nolan Batman movies. This is a much more complete film than a lot of the worse of the genre and it's a pretty fun time if you have some popcorn and just want some dumb fun.
I think a grounded version of both Freeze and Ivy would be great to see. With the long runtime of the Reeves Batman, they could pull off both in one movie.
I loved this movie as a kid (I was eight years old when it came out). My brother and I saw it in theaters, we each had t-shirts, the toys, the junior novella that had pictures in the center of it, and even trading cards. It was also the first movie that introduced me to George Clooney and Uma Thurman. As an adult now and still have a little nostalgia, I do consider Batman and Robin the worst.
I remember being 9 when The Dark Knight came out and one of my cousins showed me this movie and said that it was a fun movie when she was a kid, and after watching it I remember specify saying, a movie made for kids as a kid, this movie sucks. I'll never forget it
3:20 sums it up perfectly 😂😂😂 agreed though, it’s so corny and terribly written that you can still have a good time watching it. plus Arnold as Mr. Freeze is just comedic gold 🤣
Ima keep it 100% real. This was my absolute favorite Batman movie as a kid. Had the Batmobile toy with the extendable blades to cut Poisin Ivy's vines and absolutely begged my mom to rent this and Scooby Doo on Zombie Island every time we went to the local video rental store, Silver Screen Videos. As an Adult, this video is still a guilty pleasure of mine despite knowing how awful it is. Think the only Batman movie i liked even close to this was the Adam West Batman Movie. Hate if you must, i don't care
No hate. You kept it real and said "hey I was a pissy pants kid" The hate comes when people try to become critics and write pseudo - intellectual word salads about why it was good. Oh and in this day and age, call you a homophobe for not liking it because Schumacher is gay smh. Everyone has a guilty pleasure, I unironically like The Cable Guy lol.
10:52 Their mistake with Freeze was trying to combine the campy mad scientist with a cold gimmick version from pre BTAS comics and the 60's show with the tragic animated series one who wants to save Nora. Which makes him spouting ice puns in this nonsensical because why would a guy who hates that he can't survive in normal temperatures be cracking snow and ice jokes?
It’s bad, but I don’t get the sentiment that it “killed the comic book movie” genre. The genre didn’t really go anywhere. “Blade” came out almost right after, then you had movies that could have just as well been based on comics like “Dark City” and “The Matrix” and then “Spider-Man” not long after. If anything, it made studios worry about the script a lot more and the merchandising opportunities a little less.
You are right about George Clooney. He actually did win a best supporting actor Oscar for Syriana. He is a good actor but here he had to have done this movie for the paycheck. In his defense, he knows he sucked in it also and bags on the movie and his acting to this day.
1:54 The tie in game for this was even worse than the film. The fighting controls were awful, the map was confusing, apart from going to the museum at the start it gave you no indication of where to go and the clues you needed were hard to find. Driving either the Batmobile or Robin or Batgirl's bikes sucked since no matter what the Freeze henchmen trucks were always faster. And everything is on a time limit for some reason.
I’ve always found it weird that they did so many costume changes for toys yet not of the toys look like the ones from the film. The poison Ivy figure looks nothing like her.
Patrick Stewart is the ONLY person who should have been cast as Freeze. I never understood the "make a movie to sell toys" thing. Has Batman had a problem selling toys EVER? Did the other three Batman movies not manage to sell toys? I don't get why they dumbed down the movie to sell toys when I'm pretty sure I remember a shit ton of toys being released for the other movies as well. Not to mention happy meals and glasswear, etc. Plus, what kid wasn't watching the Batman movies in the first place? You had the movies, the animated series, and the animated movies. I'm pretty sure the kid angle was covered.
I was 9 when it came out. I can relate to this video a lot. I liked it through my 9 year old lens, but as time past I could see how awful it really was. I'm so sorry that Bob Kane died with this being his final Batman movie to see. He must have been traumatized to see how bad these films got down the line later on.
I remember some weird product advertisements for this movie I saw all these commercials that were saying enter into a sweepstakes to win a free batmobile lol 😂

I laughed after realizing you literally said nothing about Bane in the movie except for that one joke, but it’s understandable because they literally just had him be Ivy’s bitch the whole movie 😂 Also I have to kinda disagree on Arnie cast as Mr Freeze, because I feel like with the right script and the right director, and if he took a more dark approach to the character, then I think Arnie would make a great Freeze
Cody, You forgot Barbara was from London and had zero English accent. To piggy back on Alfred letting people in the bat cave: Alfred said something about secrets being super important at that house as soon as Barbara gets there. This movie sucks so much ass.
1) The problem with this movie isnt that its a silly kids movie. Lego Batman was a kids movie. Heck look at how many Pixar films are still enjoyable as an adult. The problem is that it is a BAD kids movie that just exists to sell toys, and even kids can tell that. As a kid I felt like this was "Just another batman movie". 2) Anyone who says this is the worst comic superhero movie doesnt know what theyre talking about. Supergirl movie.
A couple things. Firstly, there’s the part where Batman tells Mr. Freeze he could “save the man his wife once loved.” Um what? There was a whole subplot of Mr Freeze’s wife being Alfred’s ex that was abandoned. Secondly, the line “This is why Superman works alone.” I dug that. Everyone says “oh so they’re in the same universe as Superman?” I always took it as meaning “no, but Superman is a comic character in their universe like he is in ours and people will use him in figures of speech and whatnot like in ours.” I made this meme of George Clooney saying that to send people when they get on my nerves lol
I actually know ONE person that this is his favorite Batman movie lol(mainly because of Arnold)...but to answer your question I'd rather see a grounded version of Mr Freeze slightly over Poison Ivy because I think you can tell a better more complex story with him doing what he's doing trying to save his wife.
I love looking back on movies I thought were so amazing as a child. Only to grow up and realize, “sis…… why????” Although I will say, even at age 9 when I first saw it I knew this movie was terrible. Also early reviews of The Batman are so promising! I can’t wait to see your review.

Again, like Batman Forever, this movie was from my early childhood. I was 4 when it came out and remember Mr. Freeze, Batman and Robin. Completely forgot about Batgirl and didn't even realise Bane was in this movie until after TDKR came out.
I completely love this movie. I loved it as a kid and I appreciate it even more now. It was trying to be 60s Batman in the 90s. It was a comedy not to be taken seriously. The great thing about Batman is that there are so many different types of ways to do the characters.

To piggy back on Alfred letting people in the bat cave: Alfred said something about secrets being super important at that house as soon as Barbara gets there.
This movie sucks so much ass.
I have the soundtrack of this in my car, the reason why I got that soundtrack? Two words: SMASHING PUMPKINS.
I need four words to describe how BAD this movie is and how much it destroyed the Batman Movie Franchise for nearly a decade:
*A Bat Credit Card*
I would rather see a grounded depiction or Mr. Freeze. Poison Ivy is a villain I can’t really take seriously
Awesome intro!
That face changing bit was hilarious 🤣
I actually know ONE person that this is his favorite Batman movie lol(mainly because of Arnold)...but to answer your question I'd rather see a grounded version of Mr Freeze slightly over Poison Ivy because I think you can tell a better more complex story with him doing what he's doing trying to save his wife.
18:21 If you did a collab with Nostalgia Critic when you mentioned A BAT CREDIT CARD!!!!!!! he would've went on a murder spree
I would definitely prefer to see a new, grounded version of Mr. Freeze since he’s my favorite Batman villain thanks to Batman: The Animated Series
Fun fact, I saw this movie in theaters and the same night I saw Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear off.
I love looking back on movies I thought were so amazing as a child. Only to grow up and realize, “sis…… why????”
Although I will say, even at age 9 when I first saw it I knew this movie was terrible.
Also early reviews of The Batman are so promising! I can’t wait to see your review.
That intro is awesome! Thanks for doing that btw at 0:02, 🍑 just adds to your creativity Cody! Yeah nostalgia is what brings me back to these Schumacher movies but they aren't good at all. Ah to be 7 yrs old and thinking this was the best film ever!
The terminator is mr.Freeze yeah its bad as a kid i loved it
Again, like Batman Forever, this movie was from my early childhood. I was 4 when it came out and remember Mr. Freeze, Batman and Robin. Completely forgot about Batgirl and didn't even realise Bane was in this movie until after TDKR came out.
This is one of the funniest reviews you have done yet. 🤣🤣
This was one of your most entertaining reviews in a while bro. Loved it!
Like the robbery joke 🤣
Were you Heisenberg inspired?
From the hat and glases
I completely love this movie. I loved it as a kid and I appreciate it even more now. It was trying to be 60s Batman in the 90s. It was a comedy not to be taken seriously. The great thing about Batman is that there are so many different types of ways to do the characters.
Who else thinks the new Pattinson bat-suit looks not that great? I genuinely prefer the 89 Batman suit over it.
No. Keep that cheap rubber suit in the 80’s
