I like the first Zelda but those NES games pretty much require a guide for playing which turns a lot of new players away from the series due to high difficulty and not knowing where to go next
@greenie52 Exactly. I still remember trying to play through that game way back in 1991 and not even having a strategy guide or map. Don't get me wrong, I still loved the game, but yeah it was definitely more cryptic and limited with controls. It's also weird that A is the sword and B is the item, whereas it's swapped in the later games.
if youre already a fan of the different styles and wanna play all of them, for game versions id recommend - Zelda 1: Redux (made it so i didnt need a guide) - Zelda 2: Redux (not as many changes as 1 Redux but just QOL stuff), or that PC port that ppl say is really good (i dont have it :/ ) - ALTTP: snes or gba (take your pick whatever’s most accessible) - Awakening: switch (quality of life for inventory is what does it for me) - Oracles: as far as i know youre stuck with the ogs - Ocarina: 3ds(if you have it), Switch(64 emulation), SoH(pc port of 64 with bunch of qol improvements again whatever’s most accessible this game is great) - Majora: 64(the elitist option😎) 3ds Restoration Project (pretty good compromise😎) - Four⚔️A: og only - Wind Waker: HD (i cant with the gc sailing sorry) - Minish Cap: og only - 4⚔️: og only (fun on switch online or local for an hour or two i guess) - TwilightP: HD (probably idk i beat the wii version which might be the worst one cuz its all flipped but idc the game is still good) - PhantomH: og only (probably best on a 3ds if you used that to play the N64 games) - SpiritTracks: same as PhantomH - SkywardSword: HD (Wii requires motionplus controllers or attachments and can still be spotty regardless) - ALBW: 3DS only - TFHeroes: 3DS only (and also who cares) - Botw: Switch (wii u lags more) - Totk: og only - Echoes: og only
I would definitely have a different recommendation. Even if someone is new I'd say start with the original game on NES, at least for 30 minutes just to see where it all started. Then play A Link to the Past, the definitive Zelda experience and source of so much that came later (the original Master Sword, Kakariko village, etc.). Then it's sequel, Link's Awakening. Then A Link Between Worlds, a later game in the same Hyrule, and maybe Echoes of Wisdom here (also same Hyrule). If they want to continue with more 2D at some point, great, but start with those. Then go with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, then Twilight Princess, thay all kind of go together. Then Wind Waker, and the DS games if they want. Then Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild, and Tears of the Kingdom. Echoes of Wisdom could either be last (since it has some similar features as TotK) or after Link's Awakening, since they're similar.
@@greenie52saw this and got straight to playing minish cap , had lots of fun and the visuals are stunning , thx for the recommendation m8 , you successfully got me into zelda
Yeah I’ll have to fix that with future uploads lol. Sorry as you can tell by my sub count I’m very much an amateur 😂. Will be fixed with future videos. Thank you!!
When I was 12 and on emulators i played, in order, ALTTP OOT (on a real n64) 5 minutes of LA LZoZ ( 100% loved it to death perfect game) half of zelda 2 Four swords (ds) Majora's Mask then i played all the new games
Orcarina of time really gave us the formula. So id say start with the 3ds version since its the best version and for a n64 game still holds up. If you like OOT youll probaly like twilight princess Windwaker is also a gem. Only downside to them is you do gotta buy older consoles experience those games and they usually have a high price tag to them. Personally i still reccomend hunting down a gamecube or wii u and trying them out. While the wii u versions are better id reccomend the gamecube because the gamecube just has an awesome library of games and id like to believe the HD versions will one day make their way to nintendo switch/switch 2 That or simply start with Breath of the wild Its is a great game and still considered the switchs best title and everyone has a switch There also OOT you can play on the switch expansion but the 3ds version is superior
Link Between Worlds or Wind Waker. Very easy, laid back Zelda games. Ocarina of time is easy sometimes but it has some strong spikes in difficulty, so bad idea to play first imo. Not in terms of combat, but in terms of puzzles and figuring out what to do next 😂
6:17 Me who’s first game was the original. Than hoped into Oot, ALTTP, majoras mask, and Twilight Princess. By the way I think I have turned into a TP fanboy 💀 that game story is Goated. Breath of the wild and TOTK. Well they are fun but don’t feel like zelda games. I would never start with those games. Ruins you mind set for all the the other 3d and 2d games besides maybe the new one
Twilight princes has one of the best story's in the series however the pacing is super slow and sometimes just feels like a chore to play through so I decided to leave it in the other list. BOTW and TOTK I agree don't always feel like Zelda games but when it comes to getting new players into Zelda I cant really think of a better one to recommend to casual players who have never played a game like Zelda games before.
I wouldn’t recommend echoes of wisdom if you’re not a die hard fan. Honestly I’d recommend BOTW and then have it branch into tears or ocarina. Also always play the most modern version of the games
I recommended echos of wisdom because it bridges the gap between the new and old formula while being on the easier side with good pacing. As for always play the most modern version of the game Majoras mask ruins a lot of stuff that worked better in the N64 version making it where a good chunk of people prefer the N64 version
@ Majoras mask is a controversial one for sure. The remake offered the bombers notebook and a few other quality of life changes. The original didn’t have the shit stamina system. Even with that in mind I’d still recommend the remake… the new visuals make too much of a difference. As for echos I’d replace it with link between worlds since that bridges the 2D and 3D Zelda games of both styles. I still stand with what I said with Echos of Wisdom, it just has too much dialogue and everything in the game is a throwback to the old school Zelda games. For that reason it’s going in the die hard fan category.
@@Ghorda9 Zora fast swim cost magic, deku cant momentum hop on water, ice arrows no longer can be shot anywhere on water, twinmold boss fight changed for the worse, same for oldwalda. First person mode gone. It’s not just Zora fast swim these are major changes that make the game worse on 3Ds
Well I started out with Oracle of Ages so that wouldn't be a bad one to start with. BOTW might be a bit complex to start from. The Game Boy Color version of Link's Awakening has the photograph mouse who is not in the Switch version. The PC port of Ocarina and Majora's Mask is the proper way to play them. You should add in the Oracle games too. How is Twilight Princess not beginner friendly? I played Oracle of Ages first and beat it fairly quickly. Zelda 2 is too damn hard. I can't beat it without the easy mode mod. You can play Four Swords Adventures alone. It's not exclusively multiplayer. Triforce Heroes sucks. I got lag when I tried playing online.
I felt that the oracle games clash with what type games the majority of people play today and would be better for down the line. I love those games but even as a Zelda fan I overlooked playing them until later in my life Breath of the Wild although not my favorite is the best selling Zelda game that many who have never played the series love, its a really good starting point to pull modern audiences in. I did not include any PC ports because although those are for sure the best way to play them, most casual players who are playing these games for the first time don't want to go through the hassle of downloading a port of it and would rather find an official version. Twilight Princess I've found is hit or miss for new people coming into the series as they get bored with the overly long tutorial and just don't find the game very engaging until you get the Master Sword, but by that point they just don't want to finish it. Most dungeons in TP just are not that fun to go through ( Arbiter's Grounds and Snowpeak Ruins are the exceptions) Zelda 2 is my least favorite Zelda game as it is over the top difficult and I did not have fun playing it until my 3rd playthrough (I will never play it again) Yes I know you can play Four Swords Adventure by yourself (as I have done 2 times) however it is far from the best way to play. After inviting some friends over and all playing the game together and beating it I can safely say it is the best multiplayer Zelda game and very underrated. But with only one item slot and loss of its main mechanics I just cant recommend any newcomer playing the game by themselves when there are other Zelda games they can start with that will be a better experience for them Triforce Hero's is the worst its just not fun if Zelda 2 didn't exist it would be my least fav.
I think that links awakening should be experienced on the gameboy first. There’s something great about gameboy zelda that the remastered links awakening doesn’t have, but it’s also a great game. As for ALBW, it’s a great starting point for someone new to 2d Zelda. I love a link to the past but it can also be challenging for a new Zelda player
honestly I don't really recommend starting with botw. Many people who start with that one go into older ones like tp or oot and notice how different they are gameplay-wise, so botw won't give you what the rest of the series will give you, meaning it doesn't represent the franchise. Also botw is more like a fan-service game bc of all the reference to previous games
I don't really agree with this. Breath of the Wild was a soft reboot for the franchise. All the locations in the game may have references to previous Zelda games but all the characters and story are completely new to the game. This is perfect for new players. If they want to get an idea of the older Zelda games they can play Ocarina of Time. If they like BOTW they can play TOTK.
@loganolson3968 I'm with you on this one BOTW is not my favorite Zelda game but it is the highest selling one for a reason as it brought more people to the series and served as a new starting point to welcome in new players and a new formula. I like the older formula more as Majoras Mask is my favorite but for new people coming into the series BOTW is probably the best starting point even if it doesn't fully represent the series.
@HarmonicWave I can recognize that the game is good and important and all, I'm not saying it's a bad game. But I played it as an inexperienced gamer who didn't even know what a Zelda game was because I had only played BOTW. So I basically threw myself in a thing in pixel art graphics that wasn't really my thing, music I didn't really like, with limited and quite stiff movements options, and enemies that hit very hard and very often. So it all became just me trying not to die, roaming around and not managing to hit enemies while that cursed, bloody, freaking low health alarm constantly blasted my eardrums. I had a terrible experience that I decided to end with Moldorm, I don't think I've ever been more frustrated in my life. It's been a few years and every once in a while I do try to play it again, even after playing Link's Awakening and Minish Cap, but I just can't. That first experience left so much of a bad taste in my mouth that that game is simply beyond saving for me, which I'm kinda sorry about. I am halfway through A Link Between Words now and I'm doing okay. Should they make a remake of ALTTP, I might give it a proper try.
Imma tell yall now. Fuck going by timeline or any of that BS. Play link to the past, ocarina of Time, and breath of the wild. From those games you can pretty much gather which ones you’ll like and which ones you won’t, that’s more of an era thing. But in general, those three games are probably the best ones out of all of them.
3ds version has better graphics, more item slots, boots are now an item, better aiming with gyro aim, and made ocarina a button on the bottom screen. I fail to see anyway the N64 version is the definitive version
@greenie52 the remakes graphics are horrendous and are a major downgrade in every way from the definitive version which is the N64 version. Anytime I see someone use 3ds footage or act like its better than the original I cringe. Soon I'm going to have a dedicated video on why the original is the definitive version and why if someone likes the 3ds version they dont understand the tone or atmosphere the N64 version has and really has horrible taste. Anyone who prefers the cringe remake doesn't understand Ocarina Of Time as a game and clearly wasn't an N64 fan and doesn't understand the tone and mysteries that the true version has. N64 fans know this already but I'm going to break it down for the people like you spreading this false narrative
I constantly play the N64 version when I’m playing the randomizer. I’ve probably played it more than the 3ds version. The graphics are nothing but an upgrade on every scale. Majoras mask I understand someone saying the N64 version is better because of lighting and gameplay changes. But Ocarina of Time 3D is an upgrade on every scale. The only change I don’t like is the lack of blood in bottom of the well and Shadow Temple.
@@onlygoodgamesofficial All I’m going to say is to play the water dungeon in both versions. Ones fun to play. The other one gives you a stroke since you have to open up the menu and awkwardly aim the hook shoot…

- Zelda 1: Redux (made it so i didnt need a guide)
- Zelda 2: Redux (not as many changes as 1 Redux but just QOL stuff), or that PC port that ppl say is really good (i dont have it :/ )
- ALTTP: snes or gba (take your pick whatever’s most accessible)
- Awakening: switch (quality of life for inventory is what does it for me)
- Oracles: as far as i know youre stuck with the ogs
- Ocarina: 3ds(if you have it), Switch(64 emulation), SoH(pc port of 64 with bunch of qol improvements again whatever’s most accessible this game is great)
- Majora: 64(the elitist option😎) 3ds Restoration Project (pretty good compromise😎)
- Four⚔️A: og only
- Wind Waker: HD (i cant with the gc sailing sorry)
- Minish Cap: og only
- 4⚔️: og only (fun on switch online or local for an hour or two i guess)
- TwilightP: HD (probably idk i beat the wii version which might be the worst one cuz its all flipped but idc the game is still good)
- PhantomH: og only (probably best on a 3ds if you used that to play the N64 games)
- SpiritTracks: same as PhantomH
- SkywardSword: HD (Wii requires motionplus controllers or attachments and can still be spotty regardless)
- ALBW: 3DS only
- TFHeroes: 3DS only (and also who cares)
- Botw: Switch (wii u lags more)
- Totk: og only
- Echoes: og only
For Ocarina of Time, "SoH" means Ship of Harkinian, in case that wasn't clear.
I really got bored from ocarina of time 😭what should I start with
In that case maybe you’ll like the 2D ones better
@@greenie52saw this and got straight to playing minish cap , had lots of fun and the visuals are stunning , thx for the recommendation m8 , you successfully got me into zelda
Glad to hear lol. Minish cap is super fun and yes the pixel artstyle still looks amazing to this day
NIce video, I'd say the music is a little loud though, hard to hear your voice imo
Yeah I’ll have to fix that with future uploads lol. Sorry as you can tell by my sub count I’m very much an amateur 😂. Will be fixed with future videos. Thank you!!
@@greenie52 No worries, sub count just got one higher 👍
THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊
When I was 12 and on emulators i played, in order,
ALTTP
OOT (on a real n64)
5 minutes of LA
LZoZ ( 100% loved it to death perfect game)
half of zelda 2
Four swords (ds)
Majora's Mask
then i played all the new games
The half of Zelda 2 is so real. Played it as a kid and I don’t think I ever made it past the 2nd dungeon
@@greenie52 true words my man
What the heck is LZoZ?
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 It's just a typo you don't have to be rude about it
@@BusinessBlaze7 There's a lot of titles. A typo will confuse me.
Orcarina of time really gave us the formula.
So id say start with the 3ds version since its the best version and for a n64 game still holds up.
If you like OOT youll probaly like twilight princess
Windwaker is also a gem.
Only downside to them is you do gotta buy older consoles experience those games and they usually have a high price tag to them.
Personally i still reccomend hunting down a gamecube or wii u and trying them out.
While the wii u versions are better id reccomend the gamecube because the gamecube just has an awesome library of games and id like to believe the HD versions will one day make their way to nintendo switch/switch 2
That or simply start with Breath of the wild
Its is a great game and still considered the switchs best title and everyone has a switch
There also OOT you can play on the switch expansion but the 3ds version is superior
@@greenie52 "a lot of stuff" as in just the zora swimming
@@Ghorda9 Zora fast swim cost magic, deku cant momentum hop on water, ice arrows no longer can be shot anywhere on water, twinmold boss fight changed for the worse, same for oldwalda. First person mode gone. It’s not just Zora fast swim these are major changes that make the game worse on 3Ds
@@greenie52 you can still momentum hop, ice arrow change is too minor, twinmold was a complete joke before, first person aiming is still a thing
UGHH
wassup nerd
@@greenie52 well well well, look who it is.
Bro Twilight Princess play after Majoris Mask
I love those games but even as a Zelda fan I overlooked playing them until later in my life
Breath of the Wild although not my favorite is the best selling Zelda game that many who have never played the series love, its a really good starting point to pull modern audiences in.
Most dungeons in TP just are not that fun to go through ( Arbiter's Grounds and Snowpeak Ruins are the exceptions)
Zelda 2 is my least favorite Zelda game as it is over the top difficult and I did not have fun playing it until my 3rd playthrough (I will never play it again)
Yes I know you can play Four Swords Adventure by yourself (as I have done 2 times) however it is far from the best way to play. After inviting some friends over and all playing the game together and beating it I can safely say it is the best multiplayer Zelda game and very underrated. But with only one item slot and loss of its main mechanics I just cant recommend any newcomer playing the game by themselves when there are other Zelda games they can start with that will be a better experience for them
Triforce Hero's is the worst its just not fun if Zelda 2 didn't exist it would be my least fav.
I don't recommend OoT. I started with it, and I genuinely HATED that game.
Yeah it’s not for everyone if you didn’t like that one I recommend going down the 2D games line because those you might like better
Wherever you do, do NOT jump from BOTW to A Link To The Past. I did it and now I hate that game with a burning passion.
Why would you hate A Link to the Past? Were you expecting it to be similar to BotW somehow? It's basically the best, most definitive 2D Zelda game.
What you said about Ocarina Of Time is not true at all, the N64 version is the definitive version in every way. The 3ds version is an absolute joke 😂
I recently got into loz and i started with alttp! It was a great game and definitely recommended if ur familiar with puzzles and stuff but it was kinda difficult for me so honestly i would recommend botw or oot if ur new like the vid said. Awesome video for starters‼️🫶🏻
