  • For us, this is only the start!
Dive Spear and Sport is proud to be a part of the Tourism Reef Protection Initiative, a crucial program implemented by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority as part of the Australian Government’s Reef Protection package. Our expert team has been thoroughly trained in the Eye on the Reef survey methods, allowing us to report valuable data on the current health and threats to our local Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Participating in this initiative has been wholesome for our entire team, enriching our lives and enhancing the experience we offer to our guests. It has provided us with a deeper understanding of the reef’s ecosystem and strengthened our commitment to its preservation. During the challenging summer bleaching event, this program was especially meaningful, transforming our feelings of helplessness and distress into proactive efforts to protect and monitor the reef.
To date, we’ve conducted over 800 Eye on the Reef Surveys, culled over 725 coral-eating predators, and spent over 1,000 hours in the water observing and documenting the reef. Our efforts are supported by both local community members and visiting guests, who are encouraged to get involved in our surveying activities. By joining us, they too can contribute to the resilience and long-term health of the reef.
