Monitoring the health of the Great Barrier Reef as part of the Tourism Reef Protection initiative.
For us, this is only the start!
Dive Spear and Sport is proud to be a part of the Tourism Reef Protection Initiative, a crucial program implemented by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority as part of the Australian Government’s Reef Protection package. Our expert team has been thoroughly trained in the Eye on the Reef survey methods, allowing us to report valuable data on the current health and threats to our local Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Participating in this initiative has been wholesome for our entire team, enriching our lives and enhancing the experience we offer to our guests. It has provided us with a deeper understanding of the reef’s ecosystem and strengthened our commitment to its preservation. During the challenging summer bleaching event, this program was especially meaningful, transforming our feelings of helplessness and distress into proactive efforts to protect and monitor the reef.
To date, we’ve conducted over 800 Eye on the Reef Surveys, culled over 725 coral-eating predators, and spent over 1,000 hours in the water observing and documenting the reef. Our efforts are supported by both local community members and visiting guests, who are encouraged to get involved in our surveying activities. By joining us, they too can contribute to the resilience and long-term health of the reef.
Watch the video to see our team in action and witness the beauty of the reef we are dedicated to protecting.

    thank you for the upload. great talk/class. hypothetical question: if blood is whats caring gas into the tissues, blood transfusion/dialisis or some of the sorts could help with serious cases of DCS?

    when I took my into to diving NAUI course (Lee Somers 1973) NEVER were we told to dive alone. The buddy diving mantra was pounded into us, as was 1 reg buddy breathing. It wasn't until I looked into tech diving that the "you are your own buddy" concept was introduced to me. I've been diving for a long time and perhaps things/concepts have changed, however, in my opinion adventures are always better when shared with a friend/buddy. AND, when SH_T happens, and it will, it is always good to have some help.

    I don't understand why the M Value blue line is not parallel to the green Ambient Pressure Line. As with the example of a tissue with a 2 bar limit for the M value, there should be a constant difference between the blue and green lines, which implies parallelism. If not, as it is shown, it implies that the M value can increase with depth. Can you explain? Regards.

    Good subject and with lots of potential. But certainly the presenter misses some fundamental definitions from a thermodynamics, and physics stand point. Saturation vs. Supersaturation definitions are very, very weird. Where do you come with those definitions from. This is all physical-chemestry dynamics. Nothing exuberant. Very straight forward. You are talking about gas solubility in solutions or tissues at contant temperature (body temperature) and while pressure variation. There are more easy ways to explain this principle. You are all over the place with it. In fact, your visuals are kind of confusing As I said, there is tremendous potential for this subject. Thank you anyway.

    Also sure that NAUI has always stated that ALL certified NAUI divers are fully qualified to dive solo because they are trained as 100% self-sufficient divers from day one. There’s a reason NAUI does NOT have a “solo diver” course. Because if you’re qualified to dive, you’re qualified to dive solo already.

  • @ArmyVeteranAJ

    Wasn’t NAUI the first agency to embrace and teach Nitrox? 🤔

    • @Sidemount_Ben
      @Sidemount_Ben 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      late reply, I just saw this, but Actually no, In the beginning, ANDI and IAND (new nitrox-specific training agencies) were the only ones who taught its use. Starting with IAND that is now IANTD, It started with Dick Rutkowski, the former dive supervisor for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), formed the International Association of Nitrox Divers (IAND) in 1985 to teach nitrox to recreational divers. This program was developed through NOAA during his tenure. American Nitrox Divers International (or ANDI) was founded by Ed Betts and Dick Rutkowski in 1988 and they ended operations in 2000. NAUI refers to themself as the first commercialized recreational organization to teach nitrox, yet that is a misnomer.

As this is what I would love to be able to do a try dive while wearing a drysuit with a qualified instructor in a swimming pool and have pictures of me in drysuit on the side of the pool entering the water under water exiting the water and back on the side of the pool
