Stoeger Coach Gun (Side by Side) 12 Gauge Shotgun - TheFirearmGuy

  • Here is a Stoeger Coach Gun which is a side by side 12 gauge shotgun. The Coach Shotgun is a historic model that many people love. It has two 20" barrels. The right barrel (which fires first) has a fixed improved cylinder choke and the left has a fixed modified choke. This Coach Gun was a lot of fun at the range.

    .....I also like that you mentioned those high brass # 4s would make a great defense round. Seems so many folks think that you have to have buckshot for a shotgun to be a good defense firearm. Not So. At defense ranges even birdshot will do the job because the pattern will be so tight.
    With any load within 10 yards a common (12 or 20 gauge) shotgun will be devastating with a direct hit.

  • @myfavoritemartian1
    @myfavoritemartian1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a Supreme model. I disarmed the auto-safety, I installed cylinder chokes to both sides. The stock comb was too high to put my eye down across the barrel in a proper plane, so I sanded it off 1/2" at the front and tapered it to zero at the rear. The forearm grip was too bulky so I thinned it down more slim. The pull was too long for me so I shortened the stock. I shoot only 00 buck or slugs. It kicks like a beast. I love it!

  • @kentwilliams4152
    @kentwilliams4152 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Howdy - I noticed that you had the coach gun low in your shoulder. One of my fellow instructors was an outstanding skeet shot and suggested a change in my shotgun mounting procedure. He suggested that I NOT bring my head down to the butt stock, but rather keep it up and bring the comb to my cheek and then pull it straight back into my shoulder. It looked as though that only 1/3 - 1/2 of the recoil pad was against my shoulder which would hurt, a lot. But, he then had me lean into the the shogun and raise my right elbow to at least the horizontal position. ( I am right handed) Before I fired he said that I should sneak a peek at the position of the butt of the shotgun on my shoulder. Ha - it was 90+ % against my shoulder.
    My ability with the shogun increased greatly and there was not the typical bruise on my shoulder after shooting as there had been before. Amazing! His words were, “Let the shotgun serve you, and not you the shotgun.” 😀

    • @TheFirearmGuy
      @TheFirearmGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The double-barrel has a distinct disadvantage in capacity, but I think it has held on as a home-defense weapon specifically because of its ease of use. The intimidation factor doesn't hurt either.

    The line down the middle between and on top of the barrels is the rib. The extension under the barrels I think but not sure is a barrel catch. I like my grandad and grandma's 1950s Springfield Stevens 1100 20 double. Its old and has taken more dove, quail, rattlers, and armadillos than you can count and its still going. It has modified and full choke barrels with double triggers. Was the first shotgun I shot. Now I mostly use my Mossberg 500 20 gauge modified pump gun or my dad's old FIE Corp .410 full choke single. Thanks for sharing.

    I've enjoyed my Stoeger 12-ga double trigger/ double barrel in the 2+ years I've had it. I polished on it, lightened the latch spring, swapped out the factory firing pins with stainless pins, polished the chambers, cut it down to 18-1/8" from the original 26", and put a little bigger brass bead on it and man.....it's a lot of fun.

  • @bigo1053

    Wish I had bought the single trigger stoeger!
    The front trigger recoils, with a bite, on my finger when firing
    the second round! Not too much fun to shoot all day but will keep it.

    I have 7 doublebarrell coach shotguns. 1 is an over/under and the rest are side by sides. 3 of my doublebarrell shotguns have external hammers. I also have numerous over/under doublebarrell shotguns with 26, 28 and 30 inch barrells for clay and skeet shooting. Doublebarrells are my favorite guns and I'll probably will always be buying on here and there occassionally.

    I bought an FIE Boito 12 ga double barrel back in 1975 for about $80. Had it laying around for years. Used a cut off wheel to shorten the barrels. To 20”. Now I have a $400 Coach gun! No choke, so it probably scatters fairly well! You can pick up these old FIE doubles for less than $200, so a little work will double their value!

    Just picked up a used Brazilian Boito K-Mart special in 12 gauge, chopped the 28 inch barrels to 18.5, chopped about 3 inches off the butt stock and added a LimbSaver pad. Overall length now is about 33 inches. LOP is 13 to the front trigger. I call it "Elmer Fudd" it is a cute little shotty now. Looking for a 20 gauge to make its little brother. It shoots great, recoil is manageable.
