I just want to reiterate how much I appreciate the amount of thought you put into this. After a YT search, I found countless vid copying a couple of builds from years ago. I cant really blame those publishers, it is useful to see their experience and that they were able to make it work, but I really didnt learn much from them over what I learned from the original couple videos. You, however, have done something unique. It is a true 4WD. It is a true zero turn. It is geometrically balanced. It has the ability to switch between power sources because of the forethought that you put into the power connections. And the fact that the power source can come from such a wide variety of options is impressive. After watching a bunch of others today .. because I have a sudden interest in this kind of build 😁I specifically came back just to share this to others. I want to see you add tracks. If I ever get to the point you got to in this video, I will give it a shot.

What an awesome concept I would like to do this for a surf fishing cart. I have a question on the steering using this skid steer concept. Does it track pretty straight when going straight ahead only. In the surf fishing world sometimes we have to go down walkways that are narrow so I’m wondering how easy it will be to negotiate that with a remote control system like this.

For example, I was already eying the cytron as an alternative to the sabertooth, so glad to hear your endorsement! The demonstration at the end was REALLY fun to watch! Did you use fuses? Did you do anything to the shafts on the middle side, i.e. between the two middle bearings, to stabilize the shafts? If so I don't think I caught that, but it might not be needed. I followed the link but didn't see it in the description .. do you know how many amps those motors draw, or what is their torque rating? Just wondering for comparison to other options. 🙏🙏🙏 p.s. been praying for your family member
These controllers whether it be the sabertooth or the cytron have several protections built into them so when I was using the 18 volt batteries I did run those through an inline fuse but when I ran the bigger lithium batteries I did not. I'm not sure about the amp draw ( probably average 15-25)on these motors and depending on how much work they're doing ,it would change I'm sure it spikes at the very beginning but as far as torque since they are gear reducted motors they have a massive amount of torque. 👍
I built one with 50 in mower deck only difference is i make it so i could use 2 semi tires cut side walls off and stretched over your tire setup where they are now tracks like a tank i use it to mow the field when over 6in the deck has independent riding mower engine just to turn the blades

The axles are currently 3/4 all thread rod , the hub has a notch while the rod has a 1/8 pin through it, the notch sits on the pin and 3/4 nuts hold everything tight
I am wondering which one you prefer between the skid steer and the smaller swivel castor steered trailer hauler you made if you take deep sand out of the equation?

The Ryobi batteries do very well, especially for the price. I have some 20 amp hour lithium batteries I run in series for 24 volts. The 18 volt Ryobi batteries are parallel, so if you want longer run time you could add more batteries but the run time for 2 is good. The motor are electric wheelchair motors that are rated at 24 volts but work great anywhere from 12-24v . Thanks for watching
If you want something similar but don't have a lot of experience building what you need to do is buy an old power chair where the batteries or the electronics have went bad. Put new batteries in it remove all of those electronics and add new electronics. I can show you / tell you how to hook it up. I have one made just like that and it is awesome an old non-working power chairs are normally about a hundred bucks.
The electronics portion is extremely simple because its using modular components. Its basically just matching specs and doing some wiring. He already supplied the components that work for him, thats a great starting point. In fact, I highly regard his endorsement of electronic components. His commitment to budget friendly design is also very admirable. If you find these parts cheap, Im sure you can wire them together.
When I run the 18volt drill batteries, they do have 40 amp fuses in the hot leads, in this 24 volt setup if you over amp draw the batteries, they internal monitor in the battery will shut the power down. My battery connector only hooks up one way, so as long as it is installed right, there is no reverse polarity to worry about. A fuse wouldn't be a bad idea, but I just haven't installed one in the current setup, thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm guessing the bottom frame is roughly 1x3.5 or 4 ft, 1in x 1in square tube that's 1/16 or 1/8 in thick, and steel? And the top frame is aluminum, roughly the same length, close to 2 ft wide, and aroun 1.5 ft tall?
It's definitely 1"x1" -1/8 thick wall tubing, but could have been thinner if I had any. Right off hand I don't remember the exact dimensions , but really just build to the size most useful to you .

It tracks very straight as long as the axles are straight I can drive this one down a sidewalk no problem.

Excluding the sand the two wheel drive with the casters is much more responsive and much more fun to drive

For instance for the sprockets you would search,( 40 sprocket 14 teeth).
The motor controller can be a saber-tooth or a cytron
Now put a paint ball gun on it with remote trigger
That would be fun
