    Built this cart with the 1K watt motor.
    Took it for a test spin today. Cart hit 26mph with me on it.
    Probably illegal in some states.
    I love it
    I got a voltage regulator to take the cell phone charger from 48V to 12V. Picked it up on Amazon for $18. The charger linked is 24V max and if you use it on a 48V system you will fry it.
    I added a digital safe and put the ignition in the safe. I placed the safe in the rear of the cart. Fit perfectly.
    I'll post up video soon and place it in the comments.
    Thanks to OP for the build!

    You definitely have skills! This would be great for going to swap meets, after pulling a bunch of car parts around on a hot summer day, I am dead. I really like the hook to attach another cart to. The only thing that would be nice is a freewheel type of system. There are times when you have little to nothing in it and really don’t need to waste battery life. Can’t wait to see what you do next.

    Do you think your cart could haul say 1000 pounds of stone?

    • @phasetek
      @phasetek 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use mine to haul say 800-1000lbs of wood over some really uneven terrain. The design shown in this video is a bit flawed for that. The solid rear axle is its biggest weakness (the one recommended is not really heavy enough and comes with really cheap pillow bearing blocks. Also if you watch the video hes always going in a straight line (it is nearly impossible to turn this cart). The one I made has a proper sealed differential with gear reduction that turns nicely and handles heavy loads with ease. We built a fleet of them for our use ;).

    48 volt 7ah battery bank. Rule of thumb max discharge is 30% of the capacity. Let’s convert to watts.. 48 v x 7ah = 336 wh. 336 x 30% = 100.8 watt max discharge from the battery bank. How does that power a 500 watt motor let alone a 2000 watt motor? My bet is those motors will burn out due to massive under voltage. A 100 watt motor is what that system is designed for and with lead acid batteries you got about an hour and 35 minutes before you should hit the charger.

    Did you acquire government permits and licenses for that contraption? How about labor laws, did you allow yourself the required break and lunch periods while constructing this cart? Also, did you conduct an environmental impact assessment? This kind of creativity and ingenuity must be discouraged for the sake of a sustainable world.

    I built one out of an older gorilla cart (better built but heavier. Use wheelchair motor which are typically rated( at least the three I’ve owed) for 2300watts. Used Chevy timing chain for drive train. When through 6 controllers learning about them. But I’m just hard headed. Shunt take anyone else that long.
    I use 2 12 55ah sealed (naturally) deep cycles.
    I think the same type they use in newer chairs 👨🏽‍🦼
    Only unsolved problem is to get f&r I “have to” run a after market or generic controller.
    Which is a pain cause I have to use a “pot” when I would love to have one of, any of the throttles I’ve bought to work.
    I think all the trial and error
    I’m into it for like 1000$
    And of course there were took I needed...😃

    Great build! I would consider using a motor with a built-in planetary gear reduction, since what I'd want is slow speed / high torque for getting over the dunes at walking pace on the way to the beach. I have a larger Gorilla Cart that we use at the beach, but getting it over the dunes fully loaded is a nightmare. Also, given the salt / sand conditions at the beach, I wonder if it makes sense to build an enclosure around the motor and drive train?

    • @JayGee6996
      @JayGee6996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea, also means it won’t need a brake as the gearbox will bring it to a stop when it’s not under power

  • @Kevin-go2dw
    @Kevin-go2dw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Have a way to disconnect drive in case of power/motor failure. Perhaps a tensioner which when removed can allow the chain to be taken off the axle.
    Like the idea.

    • @tonykomer2997
      @tonykomer2997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You really need that anyways to adjust for chain stretch just like on a bicycle. A double turnbuckle in compression or tension would work great and then uses lots instead of holes to mount the motor. Quite easy to adapt from present config.

    I'm curious about where you got your components from. Also I think a high/low range gearing system should be added so you have better control when climbing a somewhat difficult slope of sand and safer control in tight spaces. But great build. I've been considering motorized my beach cart. But more importantly my large smoker for going to the farmers market and bbq competitions. She weights 1200lb. I'm going to need a BIG motor for her. But rarely ever need to move more then 50'. Have a great day 🌤.
