He doesn’t have it up there, but it’s definitely the winner. The Milwaukee takes care of a full acre of my land. What a beast had it for about four or more years just bought another one that can change heads to different lawn tools. I think for me I got tired of cleaning out the four stroke carburetors with the price of true fuel being quite pricey. That was the only way to keep the carburetor from gumming up i could’ve ran it completely dry, which I guess could’ve been an option, but it sure beats not pulling on that string.
I got Greenworks 40V blower/trimmer that share a 40V lithium battery pack/charger through Amazon years ago... is identical to the Kobalt, according to the customer service at GreenWorks (I got a blower and trimmer that share a battery pack). Faster recharge time. No problems at all.
This is great! I am considering going electric with my trimmer and blower this spring. I am already heavily invested in the Ridgid tool ecosystem, and thus considering their trimmer/blower, released last year. Disappointed to see Ridgid wasn't included in this test. My guess is it would closely resemble the Ryobi in design and performance. Thanks for another great video! Just got the sub ;)
Thank you! If you've got personal experience with Ridgid and know what kind of quality to expect, you're already a leg up on folks who don't own anything and are looking to buy. My local stores didn't have any Ridgid's or I would've bought one. Good luck with your purchase and thanks for the comment!
I just bought the Ryobi 40V trimmer with carbon fiber shaft. It does have a high/low switch, and it came with that extra head you showed from the Hart. Without timing it, the battery (4Ah) seems to last plenty long enough and charge quickly. 🤷♂️
Ive been super happy with my 40v Kobalt string trimmer. Ive had it for a year now and definitely beat it up every week last summer. Just used it for the first time again this year today. Never a lack of power and with the included 4ah battery it last me a similar 45ish minutes like you said. Enough time to trim my whole yard with lots of trees to trim around. Of course I have a 6ah and a 2ah if needed as well. Been happy with everything on that platform so far. My only complaint is the chargers are a pretty low output wattage for some reason and take a while like you said. I have to say the only other options I'd consider would be Toro, Husqvarna, or Stihl. All of which would have been significantly more money to get the same set of outdoor equipment I have on the Kobalt platform.
Yes, the Dewalt is one of my favorites and is a very popular weedeater. And yes, the slow charge time is my only complaint about it. That's where the EGO blows all the others away. I bought my first EGO in 2017. I was really impressed with the quality of it and the newer ones are just as good. In fact, every EGO product I've bought is very good quality. Thanks for the comment!
@@FixEverythingYourself the Ego's are good, I've used a few that other people own and like them, and the string trimmer and blowers can be had for a good price but similar to the other "higher end" brands, it quickly gets more expensive when you start to go beyond those. Something to note is there is a lot of info that the older generation 40v Kobalt stuff was made by Greenworks but I'm 99% sure all current "Gen4" 40v products and batteries are made by Chervon who is the company that owns and makes Ego. They also own the skil brand and they are a pretty compelling option too. Chervon has been making the Kobalt 24v stuff for a while. Similar to how Ryobi and Hart are both owned by TTI (they also own Milwaukee)
You're welcome. Of course, the prices were accurate when I made the video but they go up/down. In fact, I saw the EGO on sale at Lowe's a few weeks ago for $179 (incl. battery).
My Ryobi bit the bullet a few days ago when I was weed eating a ditch line. Going to send it in, but looking for a replacement in the meanwhile.. I tried out the kobalt 80v and was very impressed compared to my Ryobi and even compared to my toro gas model. I think if I buy another one it will be the ego or the Milwaukee
Both are good choices. I've heard very few people have any complaints with the EGO. The excellent power and the fast recharge time are a good combination. I bought another weedeater a month ago to try it out: a Greenworks 60V from Walmart. Not a well known brand and I've only used it a small amount but I've been impressed so far. Really comfortable to operate and plenty of power. Can't recommend it yet because I haven't put it through its paces but I like it so far.
Looks like you have some wrong model for the Hart at least. The Hart that you have is the HLST051 since it has a carbon fiber shaft. The HLST051 is the same as the Ryobi RY40290 which you did not test. The Hart HLST041 is the same as the Ryobi RY40250 which is what you tested and is a brushed model. Then there is the Hart HLST061 which is the same as the Ryobi RY40270. As for the Hart HLST031, it seems like it is the Ryobi RY40230. I hope this info helps clear a few things up.
Nice. I have the newer Ego 16" and it has been awesome. I don't hate weed-eating anymore! I have heard the new Ryobi 17" is a beast. Hope you et to review that one someday.
The ryobi 40v 17in brushless with a 6ah battery is a beast runs about 1h20min and has gone through anything ive put it through in two years and still goes great im in canada and have about 1.5 acres and lots of trees to go around and runs about 300 Canadien with a 4ah battery and charger
A 6ah battery is a big one. That's a lot of use out of one battery! When I did my tests I was running the weedeaters pretty much nonstop, meaning not a lot of dead time walking from one part of the yard to another. Thanks for the comment!
Excellent video, thank you for the time and effort. I was thinking about getting an EGO, as I saw that it had good reviews. I have a question: how easy is it to get replacement parts, like disks, strings, battery, etc?
Very easy to get components and string for the EGO. New batteries, though, are very expensive, but that's true of all of these weedeaters. It's almost as cheap to buy an additional item that comes with a battery. I now have multiple different EGO items and many of them came with batteries.
Very nice review. I was about to by a greenworks at costco but I backed off. Someone told me to get a Ryobi but I saw it at home depot and I find it cheaply built. The ego looks nice, may as well spend a few bucks more and get the better one.
Thanks. Yes, your observation about the Ryobi is accurate. Also, I saw the EGO on sale at Lowes today for $179. Includes the battery and charger. That's the cheapest I've ever seen it.
Apparently Toro makes 3 different battery trimmers. I have the one that comes in combo with a blower. I only have 2200 sf of lawn so that Toro is very adequate for my needs. Which one did you review?
Ego’s batteries are trash as soon as the warranty runs out. It just happened to me and Ego couldn’t have cared less. I’m seeing a ton of other people with this same issue. And at a price tag of $180, it’s a rip off.
No there are NOT a ton of other people with the same experiences you LOL. EGO could possibly be the number 1 cordless brand out there. We get it, you're disgruntled and had to vent.
I agree with you. I purchased their mower and I’m on my 3rd battery and 2nd charger. At least it was still under warranty. Now that’s it’s out of warranty I’m just waiting for it to break again so I can get a different brand.
24 volt kobalt is a back saver for me and runs.095 string for me no problems
Good to know on the 0.095 string. Thanks!
I'll look into this for my wife with her bad back. She needs a lighter trimmer and she's not doing a football field.
Brilliant presentation! I have the EGO, very happy with it.
Thanks! Yes, absolutely can't go wrong with the EGO.

Good input!
I've seen others include that Milwaukee and the Ego or the Dewalt beat it almost all the time.

👍
the basic ego for $179 is an amazing deal. Best trimmer i've ever used be it gas or not. their batteries/chargers are awesome.
👍👍

Why did you not review the 80v Kobalt 5.0AH battery?

Need to know the amp hour rating vs charge time. Where they all the same Ah?
I have e go chainsaw mower and trimmer have no problem

GreenWorks 40V battery type blower/trimmer combos is identical to Kobalt according to customer service fore GreenWorks...
What about Milwaukee brand?
The Skil brand is made by Chervon and they make Ego, Skil and Flex brand of power tools
👍
I got that same ryobi weed eater for $60
Apparently Toro makes 3 different battery trimmers. I have the one that comes in combo with a blower. I only have 2200 sf of lawn so that Toro is very adequate for my needs. Which one did you review?
I reviewed Toro model 51831, the 15-inch diameter cutting swath
@@FixEverythingYourself yup that's the one I purchased
have you review compared with the milwaukee one?
No but I'd like to in the future.
No makita , Sthil or Echo ?
Next year. Have to pay for these myself and it gets pricey...
Milwaukee, Makita?? MIA.

@ yup. And their CS is horrible for what they charge for batteries. They just tell you you’re SOL and to go buy another $180 battery.
