She was 73 when she did this & had cancer early stages. She pushed through to honor her friend & the sond writer Carole King. Her last live performance. She died 3 yrs later.
No actually she had been battling cancer for 5 or 6 years by this time so this heading towards the end stages , she passed away less than three years later.
As good as it gets. A great tribute by Aretha Franklin, and the chance to celebrate Aretha and carole king. The Kennedy Center Honors is like the top lifetime honor we have.
Probably THE crowning moment of an unbelievable career. She is one of the best ever in the business. Make a President (and a first lady) weep, along with millions more. She's so amazing. Thanx for doing this one.
You have just hit the mother lode of singers with Aretha Franklin (Queen Of Soul). This lady started out singing gospel music, then R&B, but could do many genres. She had so many hits especially in the 60's-70's including "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)", "Respect", "I Say A Little Prayer", "Chain Of Fools", "Think" etc.
I love Arethra, she is a star for eternity and Carol King was fantastic, loving on her like that. Excellent video. Thank You for sharing with us , you are a sweetheart!
The Queen of soul talented singer great awesome song love your passion too this video so awesome thank you so much for sharing this video with us love it .Sarah.🌹❤️❤️❤️👍
This was just a few years ago, hard to believe Aretha is gone. This performance was perfection. R.I.P. Miss Aretha Franklin, truly one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
Everything that can be said (about both of these iconic women) has been said but i rarely hear anything said about what a fabulous pianist Aretha is. She doesn't get enough credit for that and she really should. Thanks for that, Sarah. That lifted my spirit today ❤
GREAT reaction, beautiful lady. This event was in 2015, when the late/great Ms. Aretha Franklin was 73 years old. She was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010, and later died from the disease in 2018. This performance is LEGENDARY!!
This is an epic performance! My roommate and me were watching this show as it aired from our two bedrooms just freaking out and when she dropped that coat both of us screamed YAAASSS QUEEN! It was a MOMENT.
This is my all time favorite Kennedy Center video. Aretha Franklin - You make me feel like a natural woman live Kennedy Center - #1 It is the great Aretha !!! #2 - Singer song writer Carol King was being honored that night. (The blonde in the balcony) This Chokes me up every time watching Carol King's reaction. Carol was stopped on the street and asked to write a Woman song and she did with her writing partner that night. Carol wrote many hits for others and later started to do her own songs. There is a live version of Jazzman that is high energy and better then all of the others. look for the video with a sax player wearing a blue shirt. Here is the exact TH-cam title (Carole King - Jazzman.mp4)
There is no young talent today who is as great as Aretha, Tina Turner, Sarah Vaughn and so many others were. The last one to truly reach their level was Whitney Houston.
She was dying here, very weak, covered in chemo pads, copious amounts of morphine, teeth falling out - yet she could still give masterclass like no other. The greatest singer of all time.

Lovely reaction! 73 years old and battling cancer, delivers one of the most iconic and transcendent moments in American music history.
What a beautiful honor for Carole King. Aretha singing her gorgeous song!! Me too! Goosebumps!!! 😅
