A better way to export only objects contained within the artboard is to go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy) ... When inside the 'Save for Web' dialogue menu, check the box ☑️ "Clip to Artboard." This will remove the 1 px border around the selected artwork and trim any unused areas of the artboard to reduce the file size. This is what professionals typically use to export as it provides much more comprehensive control of your export. Great tutorial by the way.

Your explanation is only good if SAVING FOR WEB - ie.No good 'IF' you need to export/save file good enough for 'Larger Printing' eg.Psoters/Banners etc. ... I'm stumbled upon ths vid because I seeking how to quickly remove/clip complex elements that are not doable via a clipping mask.

Was just curious,....I have both CS6 AND Illustrator CC, but don't see the Trim option in the view menu of either. Am I doing something wrong? As usual, I was replicating your lesson, and following you step by step
