  • Building a Set Wall Panel | Trade Show Wall | Attaching Plywood to Hollywood or TV Flat
    If you're needing to make a free standing set wall here is a basic and easy Hollywood studio flat construction process. Broadway flats, theater flats, or stage flats are made very similar but this video will give you an idea of how we make our photo backdrops, trade show booth walls, and our Haunt wall panels. Learn how to make modular wall panels or TV Flats for a large façade, wall or haunt panels for a Halloween maze, theatrical sets for plays, trade show, or if you need studio flats for your film set or just a small backdrop for a photography session. Here is the second video of a how to series that will show you in detail all the steps we take to build our wall panels for our Halloween haunt and other scenic projects we work on. In this episode we will go over the attaching the lauan or luan plywood to the wall frame we created. You could also use muslin to cover the framing and then paint the surface often used in theater. We use the 1/4" veneered plywood because its inexpensive and light weight. I believe its mostly designed for interior so you must seal it well to last longer. We also go over methods that work for us, and some of the tools you can use for the job We also go over several tips and subjects to point out as you go through the process of constructing your walls. You can build these walls for $25 to $35 a piece depending on where you shop and if your making 8' or 10' walls. We try to shop for 16' long 1" x 3" at your local lumber yards to get a cheaper price than the big hardware stores. Primed Luan or also called underlayment plywood is usually a little more expensive than unpainted. you can find them for around $15 for a 4' x 8' unpainted sheet.

    Hey. Good day. I've built over ten of these walls (Thanks to you and your lady). Question, what is the best way to get the staples out if you need to?(I've tried channel locks) Also, have you ever had to re-skin your frame? If so, what's the best way to get the sheet of plywood off the frame? Thanks...ps Love the Ghostbusters theme posted on FB...

      We have many times, my go to tool for removing staples are diagonal cutters/snips and sometimes a flathead screwdriver to bend them up enough to grab with the cutters. To reskin I hammer on the back of the plywood popping it off he frame. I remove the staples I can and then clean the wood and glue off with a disc sander. Its a little work but then you can reuse the frame again. Thanks for the feedback.

      Thanks Lydia, you know I noticed that it looks like I'm closer to than I really was in these videos. I have shot my finger before and its a mistake you usually only make once. I'm pretty good about keeping enough distance between my finger and the nails but I will be extra careful, Thanks Sweets =)

    • @HollywoodHaunter
      @HollywoodHaunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this video I purchased it at a place called topanga lumber but there are several lumber supply places that may have it.

      @@HollywoodHaunter thanks I'll go check them out. I sent my assistant to go get some Lou on for the last set and I got pretty much unusable Luan no matter how much we filled it and painted it you could still see the wood grain !
      So primed Luan and Bondo and you can make seems 100% disappear !?
      I've always used wood filler which works okay but it's kind of a pain to work with

    Where do we get the plywood?

    • @HollywoodHaunter
      @HollywoodHaunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got mine from a local store called Topanga lumber the cheapest is 1/4" underlayment from Lowes or Home Depot or you can get 1/4" Luan from some lumber stores you just have to call around and ask.
