Just got to the bit about the fuel gauge, I never trust them, set your trip meter to 0 when you fill up, best way to know your range👍

And over time you should get an idea of what you can cover per tank, 150 to 200 miles is a fair average for most bikes I'd say.

Well done you, after just six months of riding. The little Enfield proved you don't need a big bike to go touring you just have to take a little more time, which is what touring is all about. If this inspires anyone to get on two wheels and explore it's a job well done...

  • @hymek7017

Oh wow. Thank you so much for your excellent series. I'm not sure where to start on comments, so many things spring to mind. All power to you for even wanting to do such a ride just six months into your riding life, so happy you enjoyed the ups and downs. Wobbles are what happens when you go out of your comfort zone but you handled it all with style and now your comfort zone just got a whole lot bigger. Before you go any further treat Agatha and yourself to some heated grips, makes all the difference to comfort and the joy of riding can go on all year round.
Personally, I can't wait until you start your next trip. Best Wishes and happiness. Stay safe 🙂
PS I always tour solo. The freedom to stop for a photo whenever I like, to ride at my own speed and divert off at random to look at something of interest is well worth doing.

Great series, your vids are honest and fun.. even when it’s tough! Biking is never always plain sailing. It’s great to see you getting out and doing it on your little bike… there’s many out there with £20k bikes etc that just don’t go anywhere except local posers meetings
    Looking forward to more ❤

I Packed up 5 years ago when I was 80 years old, two reasons other folk who think they can drive, also they have no road manners today. it`s all me ME. and the other reason if my bike fell over in a lay bye I could not pick it up. you are a great rider I think sometimes you take your left-hand turns a little two wide. thank you for all the vids have enjoyed all. What a great adventure, thanks for taking us along. Can the older person tour solo? Of course they can. In all the years I have ridden bikes I have never thought of touring... until a year ago, when I did 2000 miles up and down the UK in seven days, camping every night... I loved it. North Wales is amazing if your looking for another adventure, I was there this year. The Fosse Way is a great road, I took it north last year on my way to Beverley, just North of Hull. And touring on a 350 is all about the route, ignore the motorways and check out the old A roads. EDIT: I forgot to add, I'm 63... 62 when I rode to Lands End and later John O'Groats (and Dunett Head) in the same year. My first two motorcycle camping trips.

Hi Charlie, I just binged days 1 to 10. Bloody awesome, well done. I’m a 62 year old biker who’s been riding on and off since I was 16. I lived in London the majority of my life and regularly (yearly) did trips to Belgium. In my forties, I did 6 days in Iceland on an organised ride with others, but…… I ain’t ever done what you have have on your own…. So, so cool but scary at the same time. I welled up seeing you get tearful on day 4 😢, I just wanted to give you a big hug. As you gathered, the biking community is a good one to say the least, we look out for each other. I’m now retired and live in The Forest of Dean (blinding place to ride) so if ever you’re in the area….. there’s a welcome meet up for you. Massive shout out and respect to all you wonderful Paramedics out there 😎😎

The bike itself with just 100kg to woop around is a plus for me (as a woman of 55).No need for more speed for me as well. The gears channel through electronics would be a reason for not consider buying. I wouldn't want to have issues with it while being on my way in another country far from home... You can get parts and new rubbershoes for the bike, - not sure about the electronics though.

I’ve just come back from my first tour up to Scotland (from Somerset). It was everything I hoped it would be. It’s a long ride up and an even longer ride back if you know what I mean. The amazing dynamics of the mountains and lochs we’re never ending. No bike issues. Tough ride back on the M6, hot day traffic queues stop start and a dry throat which later turned into Covid unfortunately. Can’t wait to do it again.

Just found you on you tube and watched this series! So good. Britain is beautiful off the motorways. I understand even as a bloke at 50 your wobble on episode 3. Went to Spain in a car first holiday on my own and thought I was a sad arse taking a holiday on my own! Felt guilty too 🤷‍♂️ crazy thinking! Now I want more! Loved it. Nowt wrong with a bit a time for yourself ! Will watch more or your blogs! 👍👍👍

Just binged watched the whole series, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I particularly enjoyed the routes around Scotland, many of which I recognised from trips with the army.
I hope to do the same myself later this year, starting and ending in Bristol.
    A great adventure……we’ll done.

    Hi Charlie, loving the series.
Top tip: When using Google Maps to navigate, you can tell it to AVOID MOTORWAYS.
After putting in your destination and clicking 'Directions' -> click the three dots at top right. A pop up menu appears - select 'Route options'. Another pop up menu appears - check the 'Avoid motorways' check box then click 'Done' then click 'Start' !

Just watched this series. Six months on a bike and you did that trip on a 350 single, brilliant job. I've been on bikes 35+ years all year round and it's only the last 15 years that I've done any real touring and no where near as much as I'd like to have done and only in the last 4 years become more determined to do more and go further on my own then covid screwed things up. Planning a ride round Scotland for next year then back to my big plan to tour Europe which I was going to do when covid struck. Those wet windy days really can get you down which is what made me go from unfaired bikes to big faired bikes (st1100, st1300) and I couldn't recomend more, Goretex gear. Costs a bit more but you won't regret it. Makes being out and getting caught in the rain storms not a problem. Your off to a great start, keep um coming.

@@restdayrider That is quite evident from your video's. I've camped in the past but I think I'm going to camp and get a room for a bed/shower/loo a bit more often in the future. Stopped at a camp site in Tipperary years ago with great on site shower/facilities. Great when you can have a hot shower. Anyway, good luck for the future.
