I'm American,, but I have such fond memories of my Yorkshire grandmother making these and a few other delicious tarts. I have her handwritten recipes. After watching your vlog, I feel the need to get to baking them. Thanks!
Backyard chef do you know that you are taking us to another world like how can you be so good preparing good recipes it's amazing I love that I wish I could be your wife you know 👑👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋 I love you work I love your teaching I enjoy everything I hope someone around this channel does that cheers to good life that backyard chef is teaching us 🎉
I love your old fashioned recipes they bring back so many memories of growing up in England. My mum was always baking with me helping (licking the spoon lol). I have lived in Canada for over 40 years now and still bake English recipes. Thank you so much my husband is Canadian and we both love your videos.
Please keep these classic recipes coming-sweet and savory. It's not my tradition (US, Eastern European descent) so I love to see what others grew up with. I think we have an obligation to keep these wonderful dishes alive for future generations. Feeding our loved ones is such an important part of family, cultural and honestly, our human heritage and the classic 'old time' foods not only bring back our memories but help us create new ones to share with our younger generations.
Don’t know how true it is but I’ve heard that TH-cam doesn’t count the likes that appear at the start of a video. Apparently it’s better to do it halfway through.
They were the one of the first things I cooked as a kid! Forgotten all about that. It’s a lovely warming comforting type cake . Thanks for the memories Rik 😂 oh and a little desiccated coconut can be added to thr batter for extra coconut flavour and texture.
Im making these for me Daddy, true Englishman. Im sure he may remember these from childhood, he's nearly 93, ... so Im going to surprise him. Love all the old recipes and your no nonsense cooking. Cheers!
Since the cook asked: I love these old recipes! As a non-British, this has an almost exotic touch. A touch of "Downton Abbey" wafts through the kitchen. ❤
We love all your recipes whether they are new fangled or old fashioned1 You make it look so easy breaking down the steps. You have one of the best not the very best channels on You Tube!!! Thank you for being you and sharing your genius with us!!! As always, another fabulous recipe that you gift us with!!!
❤️ love these traditional recipes, I have a book I was given to me on my 16 th birthday, I’m 60+ now, it has fabulous recipes & I still use it often.❤️👏👏
Love the old recipes Rik I often use my grans old Bero book and the old recipes in that beat any of the new ones , those tarts look very tasty and my hubby would ask for custard too lol , I made a sponge cake this week just topped with raspberry jam and coconut like the old school recipe but next time I will try these thank you , Amanda xx
I adore seeing the old recipes. I’m addicted to detective stories set in England between the world wars (not specific at all 😝). It’s such a treat to see foods I read about in the flesh, so to speak.
hi RIk hope you are well I can smell them from here I haven’t had those for years so let’s turn the oven on and bring back proper cooking luv and thanks sadie xx❤
I was going to say that I remember eating Queen of Heart tarts as a child, but I've changed my mind, as that would put me into an age bracket that I, as a lady, am loathe to admit to! So, all I'll say, Rik, is that I never ate one in me life, but I do remember my mam and nain talking about making them, and thank you for the reminder with this recipe... I'll give them a try! 🤣😇
I love seeing you make these traditional recipes! Imagine if I had a video of my grandparents making their specialties. Maybe I will try some, especially the easy ones!
I can't remember having these but my mam says gran used to make them, unfortunately she passed away when I was 11. She was in service as a house keeper and cook. She was a fantastic baker. I'll be making my mam some to try.
Hi Rik👋🏼! Yes…please, more of the old recipes! They take me back to wonderful days in my Gramma’s kitchen! I so enjoy your recipes and look forward to them each day. You are a man after my own heart….thank you so much! Love you, Lisa
Awe so yummy 😋 my mum used to make this on Sundays thank you for teaching me how to make english tarts . I love all your videos blessings 💖 🙌 thank you 😊
I love to see these old recipes and I make them after I have watched you make them. I need reminding how to do them its been years since I have seen them.
Thanks for these great old timey recipe - we need to keep them alive. My gran was a great cook & baker, but my mom was not interested and I didn't take to cooking & baking until my teens - by that time we had moved far away to another city so I didn't get learn much from gran (which I regret today). One of my favourite childhood treats were fairy cakes - these were made especially for birthday parties (the old fashioned kind of party that were basically just all sugar). These were vanilla mini cupcakes made in a shallow cupcake tin. They were made with extra baking powder (I think) so they rose with little peaks. Once baked you cut the peak off, cut it in half and then frosted it back onto the cake base back- to- front so they looked like little wings. We didn't decorate with edible glitter back then, but I think I'm going to dig out this recipe & have a go, this time adding some edible gold or silver glitter sprinkled over. This might make a great gift for xmas. The Mixed Up Craft YT channel has great gift box tutorials, including a little xmas lamp - a little xmas angel inside with glittery wings might be great as a stocking filler for the nephews & nieces. My Lockdown Rasoi YT channel has a tutorial on DIY edible glitter using cornflour, water & food colouring, dried out in the sun.
As a Yankee, I’d never heard of these, but they look so delicious that I have to try them. Please keep these great classics coming! I enjoy your channel oh so much.
Your recipes are great, but also your humour!!! when smearing the tins with the buttery paper great. I share your video with friends who don't speak English, but they enjoy it so much and have fun together " spill it all over".... Greetings from the Black Forest team.....
Oh Rik thank you so much for doing this!! I am amazed that you very kindly made these, they look just like the ones my nan and my now elderly aunt made and I can still smell them baking and taste the mixture we licked out the bowl!!!! I have just let my aunt know and she is going to watch you making them later. Thank you so much again xxxxxxx❤

I would love to see your take on this!
Love it! No frills down to earth wholesome baking...I've had some success baking muffins and rock buns in my Tefal air fryer... not too sure baking a cake... 🤔
