My mother did this for her bridge club in the early 1950's. She used a home-made loaf of bread and cut it end to end 3 times. One layer was egg salad, one was ground ham made into a sandwich filling, and I think the 3rd was ground up sharp cheese with black olives and pimentos. (These were 'fancied up' sandwich fillings. Nothing plain about any of them, and I think the slices were spread with butter before the fillings. The outside of the sandwich loaf was cream cheese with (possibly) a little mayo or sour cream to make it spread. It had a vegetable "flower bouquet'" decoration on top and the sides with little tomatoes, green peppers, olive slices, radishes, and celery leaves. She'd slice it and it was very beautiful. It was yellow on the outsides and the ham salad in the middle.
You are welcome. This is a food styling tick to keep herbs fresh for shoot day but if you want to keep them for longer , put that damp paper towel into a plastic bag or container.
I watch A LOT of cooking, canning, fermenting, baking, preserving, gardening videos. I have NEVER seen anything even close to this masterpiece! You made it look so easy and WOW what a presentation. I can see why people would be impressed and excited to try a slice. Great for a party!
I have been a cake decorator 35 years recently retired, And I have never seen anything like this how tremendously exciting and beautiful!! You are an ARTEEST 🙃 can’t wait to try this out!!! I already forwarded and shared it to my favourite kitchen Artist close to me🙏🏼🙏🏼 who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too🙃🤷♀️🙏🏼💝
haha ! Absolutely you can have your cake and eat it too. Thank you for your kind words. I really had fun making this one so I'm glad you appreciated it, coming from your experience. See you back in the kitchen
Love smoked salmon cream cheese!!! Make it for my daughter when i get a chance that they visit. Its a great omlet filler. This torta is beautiful!!! Thank you! I saw dill and chives...was the other terragon?
Finally!! Real Swedish food. When I make my own Smörgåstårta (Sandwich Cake,) I use three different fillings, and one topping in 3 layers, with a bread we call Gangway Bread (Landgångsbröd). Please cook Swedish meatballs with boiled potatoes, cream sauce, pickled cucumber (sweet in taste) and raw stirred lingonberries with sugar. = (rårörda ligon)
So glad you approve my Swedish sandwich cake. I toyed with the idea of making multiple fillings but thought people would find it too complex. I love it though.
Thanks. I've never seen that before. What's going on in my kitchen? Well i made a decent corn chowder, but it wasn't knocking my socks off. So, i made half of it into corn fritters this morning. Not bad. Now I'm thinking about making the fritters into a smogastarte... ;)
I have to let you people know that cremefresh is just sour cream..... I made something similar to this, and top the tater mixed with a little philadelphia works so much better by far!😉 I'm not gonna lie... When the music came on when she started icing that thing, I thought it was somebody's phone in the background or in her pocket going off....😅
Just a little note here about sour creme and creme fraiche. They are not the same, although similar. The creme fraiche is thicker and less tangy. Of course you could sub in the sour cream as it works with all the flavours. Thank you
@ChristineCushing I was a professional celebrity chef for 8 years!!! Yes, creme fresh is just sour cream, plain and simple! You'd honestly have to be a moron to think anything else! Creme fresh is just a nicer way of saying sour cream because, honestly, sour cream sounds disgusting! Seriously, some people are just stupid as phuck! I'm not saying you're in that category, but there's an astronomical chance you're in that category!🤨
Real Swedish smörgåstorta is one of the most disgusting things on this tiny globe. Right now I can't think of anything worse, but your version makes it make some sense, because you avoid the actual recipe. A real smörgåstorta combines things that should never, ever be combined.

Perfect for a tea party. Beautiful.
It really is!
Out of this world! stunning decoration! I would add one teaspoon of mustard to the cheese/salmon mix
Thanks so much .. I would go for the mustard . I like it.
@@ChristineCushing and try also Sour Cream instead of Crème fraîche :-)
Oh my! I was in Sweden nearly four months ago!
Beautiful Christine! Inspires me to do this for a tea party! Thankyou!!!

Bravo Christine mou. Love from Pretoria, South Africa.
Thank you so much . Sending you greetings way down to South Africa.
Interesting, thank you Christine. I’ve never seen anything like that. Going to suggest this video to my niece she likes to do stuff like that.
That's cool. Looking forward to seeing your niece on the channel.
I enjoyed some of the editing choices here, bravo.
Thanks so much
Soo interesting! I just may go and try this!
Please do! I know you will enjoy it.
Looks amazing and delicious; however, I'd substitute Gravlax for the smoked salmon as I'm not a fan of smoked fish.
Gravlax would be phenomenal also. I do agree , the smoked fish can be overpowering.
I made my first one as a teen in the 70s and make them when I can. They’re delicious!
I love this one for sure. Thank you
This is so cute ! Im going to make this soon ! ( veg version) So pretty for a party !
I know your guests will love it. There are so many options for fillings etc. Thank you
Sold! I want this now! I ❤️ your channel!
Thanks so much ! This is a winner for sure

Yes it was tarragon and pea shoots . Thanks for watching
@@ChristineCushing Ooooohhhh, yum! Thank you, it is so lovely.

@@ChristineCushing Exactly the response i wanted. ;) Thanks for the videos!
Interesting
Definitely !
My fresh herbs end up in freezer bags. Works great
Yes, that is a great way to store them. Thank you
@@ChristineCushing So many bags I have trouble finding things🤣
Wonderful. I’ll make it for the big fat Greek family!
Oh yes, the big fat Greek family will love it. Just add some more lemon hahah !
that looks neat for special occasions, especially those who aren't huge sweet tooths *for a nice savory option. I think this could be cool at wedding.
I think so too! Thank you
Hmmmm … its interesting. 🧐. However nothing beats spanakopita 🤓
haha ! So true
What is the last top layer please? Is it just cream cheese or crème fraiche or both mixed? Thank you.
She did mention it in the video
It is the same blend of cream cheese and creme fraiche or sour cream.
What type of chefs knife are you using?
My knife is a Japanese Damascus steel knife. Here is their website. They sent it to me to try . taski.store/
Thank you! It reminds me of the old school Italian ones.
So pretty ❤
Thanks so much

Lies 😅 I love them. (norwegian here)
OK. You can eat a bowl of gruel while the rest of us enjoy this recipe.
Why do you spell favorite like you're in England? Aren't you in the U. S.?
I'm in Canada and we do spell it like they do in England. Thank you
That looks more like a tower than cake. And that's because you overdid the filling.
Can’t go wrong with more filling ❤
