My entire spring and summer wardrobe this year consists of 7 dresses in colors that I love, and floral prints!☺️ My extras consist of 1940s inspired cropped sweaters to wear over them on cooler days, and one pair of white sneakers and one pair of white sandals. That’s it! I’ve never been so happy with my wardrobe choices before now!!☺️

Because my wardrobe is minimal, I keep the colors minimal- navy, cream, black. A friend from church gave me a bag of clothes (she’d gained weight), and when I got home....oh my goodness the beautiful colors! Those pieces brought me such joy!

Such helpful questions, thank you! I was enjoying this video when my 3-year-old came into the room. I thought, "Teachable Moment!", and asked her, "if you could wear whatever you wanted, what would it be? Her eyes lit up, and she gave me a huge smile as she said, "Nothing!" I wasn't prepared for that... 🤣

Ahhh this is so funny! I was just discussing color season analysis with my grandmother. She followed a workshop when she was younger and still had her little color passport booklets. She’s a Spring. We found out that I am a Spring too, so she gifted me her booklet with color swatches. It’s been so lovely to find this out together and to explore pretty dresses that make me feel vibrant, as you said! My favorite colors in interior are yellow and pink, and incidentally (or not!) they look good on me in terms of clothing as well. That just brings me a ton of joy. I’ve been looking into matching my makeup as well, getting more peachy tones and it just makes me look so much healthier. I feel a lot more confident. My closet is now full of yellows, bright mustards, warm pinks, peach tones, tangerine tones... a dream for me! And I’ve always known I look good in delicate, gold or rose gold jewelry, just like my nana! It’s been a wonderful journey with my grandma, and now my mother and sister are interested too! 💛💛 I’ve always felt that I didn’t LOOK as joyful as I FELT inside. I now get why. I wore dark, draining colors that didn’t suit me!

I absolutely love what you’ve said here and what you’ve caused me to consider. It also brought to mind a time when I had work done on my car. I had spent several days going back and forth to the Lexus dealership. I noticed a young woman there (around 30, I would guess) that always had a pretty, feminine dress on. Not tailored or business like, but pretty. So on the 3rd day I made a comment to her about how pretty I thought her dresses were and that I was so impressed to see a young woman in this day and age (and in particular the area where I live) wear dresses. She responded “that’s all I wear”. Boom! This young lady knew her style. I really admired that.

I also love dainty necklaces. When we went to Disney World, I bought a tiny silver Cinderella's Castle on a fine silver chain. It doesn't scream SOUVENIR!!!! It reminds me of how hard we worked to save money and make a dream come true, but most people would not think Disney when they see it.

Jennifer this is a Master Class on planning your wordrobe, it took me a long time to figure out I should choose colors that were flattering to my skin and eyes not all colors I liked. I absolutely love that nude dress, it's beautiful on you! I think we should save space for mood as well. Some days a woman may feel romantic, or sensual, not sexy necessarily, another day edgy, yet another day more tailored. A woman's moods as well can be reflected through her wardrobe.

"It's your visual call to the world" that really stood out for me. I thought I was a black & white neutral kind of girl but in the past year I find myself wanting to wear floral & pastel colours. That mind shift in me is probably wanting to reflect that outwardly, hence the visual call to the world. Love it. xo

How true it is that books and people are judged (initially) by their cover/clothing. Whenever I am browsing at my favorite bookstore, I can ALWAYS tell whether a book is interesting for me just by looking at the cover.
Never thought of it that way. Happy Monday!

Writing things down and being able to fear back is important. That way, when I shop,I can be intentional. I typically choose colors that work well fo me...I do just know. I have on occasion purchased something that when I got it home and wore it a few times didn’t make me l my best. I think I’ll part with it this spring. My favorite colors to wear? Black, navy, red, red, more red, orange, purple, and white. Jewelry...small to medium hoops in gold, stud pearls, and small drop pearls. I tend to like small, delicate necklaces...much like you. Shoes I don’t often think about. I prefer flats and definitely comfortable. Oh...and of course sneakers. I think about being presentable all the time now. I am expressing myself and trying to rock my true style more.

My favorite color is teal which can be hard to find. I like a casual but fitted style. Miss the 1940/1950's dressing gowns for wearing in the early morning and evening. I also miss fitted clothes, both casual and formal. When I was younger my clothes were all tailored to fit me. Stores offered the service. Now you have to find a seamstress and it can be expensive.

I love that you mention taking notes about style and wardrobe choices overall and seasonally. I started this practice after having kids and realizing I wanted to enjoy dressing my body as it was, and post-baby brain made it difficult to remember details. Alyssa Beltempo also encourages this habit and I have found it so helpful as I curate my closet. I also appreciate that your style advice always encourages authenticity over “like what I like” or ‘be trendy.” My style is different than yours but the take always from your advice and style curation process have helped me explore mine. Thank you as always for excellent ideas and thoughtful content!

So many good points. I think I'm just now starting to wear the styles I've always admired without considering trends. I love the idea that people do sort of size up who you are by your presentation. I like to dress modest and I hope that says a little about me. I hope my "look" is approachable. And I really love the comment on "judging a book by its cover." I have actually bought books entirely by the cover. Like Ann Voskamp's book-the cover matches my sunroom and happens to be a good book as well. Thank you Jennifer.

I’m a cool fair person with no yellow in my skin. I love clear colors in blues, greens, and coral. Think Lilly Pulitzer. I find the key to my capsule wardrobe is choosing my dark neutral. I loved this video, Jennifer, as always. I believe one of the hallmarks of great style is appropriateness for occasion and event. So, while I might want to swan around the neighborhood in trailing "Game of Thrones" medieval velvets and brocades (my heart belongs to Robin Hood), if I, a 66-yr-old woman, were to wear these on a daily basis, I'd probably be institutionalized! LOL! I can express that particular fondness safely, though, through my fabric choices and in my bedtime dressing without frightening the neighbors. I have never been one who really likes dresses and have finally recognized that about myself after years of trying hard to adopt that. My best self-expression style is "elegant slouchiness" if there is such a thing. Wide-legged 1940's style trousers, fitted tops and a patterned, voluminous scarf wound a la Paris around my neck. That's become a sort of uniform for me and I only change up the fabrics to suit the season.

My husband commented this morning: ‘Wow, what happened to you?’. My answer was simple: ‘it’s just me, I am myself.’ ... and indeed, it also feels like this. you wonder what I am wearying? A simple, classic-elegant wollen dress in my favorite black with a drop of color; usually purple, light blue, or dark green. @Jennifer, I am following you since your very first book. I'm one of the women who would love to wear dresses more often. I grew up wearing dresses to school and church; and I think I was in 9th grade when the dress code changed and we were allowed wear pants to school. Ha ha! I'm dating myself here! Wearing dresses on a daily basis wouldn't work for my life style (I'm an oil painter and occasionally end up with it on my clothes - it would be constant except for the apron I wear) but I've been thinking lately, especially with spring here, that I really want to wear dresses to church. All that to say I liked your questions today, lots of food for thought.

I would buy in a minute a daily planner if you designed one with your into logo , with the white background in those giant pink peonies and have it say the daily connoisseur on the front. It would be so fabulous because I love your TH-cam title anyway but I think a lot of ladies would enjoy having a planner like the one you were holding up with just a big gold binder rings . Great video, these are are such useful questions to ask and things to consider. I have been trying to shift my wardrobe palette to lighter colors. I love wearing white and light neutrals, especially this time of year. It makes me feel brighter somehow. It’s practical, too... when you are in the sun, light colors reflect the heat and keep you cooler.

Thank you for this reminder Jennifer. I find that I’ve been stuck wearing leggings and oversized tunics for many years. When I was younger I wore more dresses and fitted styles. Perhaps it’s time to revisit the clothing that I love and not worry about if it’s appropriate for my age (and my belly) 💜

Thank you for these thought provoking questions! I wear a lot of dresses but have been resisting going "all out" in the things I'd want to wear. I love fit and flair styles and and accessories with sweet bows and lace on them - but I'm always worried I won't look sophisticated or be taken seriously. (I'm quite petite, so in those clothes I'm worried I'll look like Alice in Wonderland .) Your video definitely has inspired me to be less worried out it and "embrace the bows" - so thank you!

I keep a common notebook for taking notes while watching videos, listening to podcasts, reading books. I mean why spend the time taking in the lessons if I'm not going to put them to use? It appears to me as if you are a ‘winter type’: you have high contrast in your hair and skin. This means that in your clothes you need contrast as well to shine. So you look best in bright/bold colours, like dark navy, emerald green, purple, fuchsia, red, white and black. I am a winter type too, also half latina 😉 And I get compliments any time I wear these colours. Take care!

Yes she has very fair skin and dark hair and she looks equally good in light fresh clear pale colors as she does clear brights of light to medium saturation and pure white.

My clothing favorites: white, light gray, cool beige/taupe, cool pinks and greens, all blues, cooler browns and cooler reds like burgundy. My NO colors: yellows, yellow-greens, oranges, warm reds, warmer tones in general. Black looks terrible on me, but I think it’s chic, so I do have some pieces, usually worn with a white collar of scarf near my face. I also wear olive green a lot, it’s not great for my skin, but makes my eyes pop, I consider it a compromise color.

So many good thoughts! I love the first one especially - it really can help clarify what we truly love and what our genuine style is. Jennifer, I'm wondering if you'd ever consider doing a video on body/essence typing, not a technical one but more so to give your perspective on it. You may have seen Audrey Coyne's recent videos on the topic and I'm so curious as to what your unique take on it would be! I'm thinking about it a lot recently as I'm planning out my spring-summer wardrobe and I'm finding it very helpful to explore and hone in on my body type and essence.
