    Excellent explanation, can you do one for heavier riders. Challenges, equipment choices light wind 25 knots can we foil. As for me 230 Lbs kiting in 17 knots using a 15M and a cabrinha stylus. Can I use (should I use) a 19M without worrying about getting over powered, or should I look and foiling. Is it even possible to get up on a foil board with my weight or a guy that is 250Lbs. What is the story behined the heaviest rider that you every got to go upwind

      HI mate, I certainly can, but it short absolutely it¡s possible to get heavy guys riding upwind, as you rightly say it's just a case of tweaking the kit. I would be looking at bug kites but also bigger boards. Foil boards are an option but are very tough to start with as they take a while to get used to. If I we're you I'd look at a larger board and kite combination and go from there, a LOT of power management comes down to technique and as you get more efficient you'll find you need less wind to get you moving as you can handle the power so much more effectively.

      No worries! Very difficult to say without seeing them, If all the lines are the same length and the centre lines split in the same place it should be ok, but don't take my word for it, test it in light winds. You will definitely want to test that the safety release depowers the kite fully as that can sometimes be a sticking point when interchanging bars

    so delta kites are bow kites but taken to the extreme?

    • @TantrumX
      @TantrumX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kind of, different aspect ratio means different flight characteristics...but its a simplified way of thinking of it yes

    what have been the worst kites? I tried a cabrinha 'Crossbow'(?) some while ago and what a pig of a kite to handle.

    Very confusing that they’re called “C shape” when literally all kitesurf kites look like a C, particularly bow or “flat” kites, which look even more like a C! Great explanation however and I know you didn’t choose the naming convention

    Such an amazing explanation. I do have to jump in though (please pardon me, you have much more experience than I do so this could be a total crapshoot), a shorter distance between the front lines and the rear lines on a C kite (@7:07), would actually mean a much bigger change of the angle if attack with the same range on the bar (also much more bar pressure), when compared to a bow kite. Only until you mentioned that it’s actually due to the bridle (@7:38) did I realize it’s likely mainly due to the bridle and not due to the distance between the two points. If it wasn’t for the bridle, bigger distance between the two points (front and back) would mean a much smaller change of the angle of attack of the kite (and also much lower bar pressure). I do still have a 2011 Crossbow and I can’t believe how crazy the bridle system is on this thing. Because front and steering lines are bridled together, the kite shifts so much when pulling on the steering lines. It almost rotates. None of my other kites does that.
