    I'm looking at a Fleetwood wilderness that is exactly like this trailer only the bunks are both twin size so seeing your remodeled trailer is so helpful in imagining how mine would look when it's done! I don't have kids but I'm going to turn my bunk into an teeny office

    Great redo, a thought on the pantry cabnet, make it a pull out on slides the back is solid but you can see everything when you pull it out making it more accessable, if possible do it to the floor, doesn't take up any more space

  • @maddygutierrez7985
    @maddygutierrez7985 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could build one of those slide out drawers in the kitchen for your little pantry. That way you pull it out and reach the items in the back.

  • @orchidgirl1203
    @orchidgirl1203 6 ปีที่แล้ว +265

    For your pantry cabinet, why not change it to a pull-out pantry so that it won't matter how deep it is? Just pull it out, and you'll be able to see everything in it at a glance.

    • @TheShauNanigans
      @TheShauNanigans 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I was going to post the same thing. If not an entire pull out, rolling drawers are fairly in expensive and could be placed on each shelf. I'd also take down the door for the cupboard that houses their knickknacks so I could see them (but that's just my personal taste). But they did a great job considering those are the only 2 things I could see changing in the whole camper. You can really see the love and labor that went into the project.

      My thought as well! Basket, drawer or shelf gliders are pretty easy to install and would help utilize every bit of storage space so much easier. I would use them everywhere! 😂

    Wow! You all did a great job! It came out lovely. My husband and I are interested in buying a used travel trailer/5th wheel, so I have been watching some videos to get ideas! We also have two children, but we have two boys! From what I have seen so far, I am thinking I would like to buy one with a bunk house. My son's are 8 years apart in age and although they get along great with each other, a 12 year old can sometimes need a little space away from a four year old brother...lol! 😂There is so much to consider, but I think I've just about got it narrowed down to what I think will work best for our family. Thanks for sharing your journey with us! Wishing you safe travels ahead! 🌼🏵️🌻

      @TheGrayAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Rachel gets the credit for choosing the colors. We're really, really happy with the counter-top choice we made. Having a real concrete counter-top in an RV would be ridiculously heavy, so the process we went with was the perfect solution since it only added about 10 pounds in weight.

      Here's a floor install video. th-cam.com/video/4lG60gthxV8/w-d-xo.html
      I explain things a bit in the video of how we were able to do the flooring over the slide. To pull our the carpet, we had to remove all the furniture (dinette and couch) and then we simply pulled the carpet up. It was pretty simple and shouldn't take more than a few hours.

    Looks bigger and better. Would have maybe opted for a sink with the drain to the back. Allows easier access to storage under the sink. Definitely prefer a one hole sink to a two hole one in these circumstances.

    absolutely love! i am in the middle of renovating a travel trailer myself and i have a question about the flooring you guys put in... did you guys cut the planks before installing of were you able to find some that fit perfectly? did you guys do any gluing or just putting in the planks?

    • @kevinmarler603
      @kevinmarler603 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When installing this kind of flooring you make the cuts as you go. Vinyl floor planks do not require glue. You can use shoe molding after installation to keep flooring in place. Easy to install, but does require some labor and skilled craftsmanship on some cuts to make look good around objects. Definitely something you can do though. Plenty of videos on how to install

      @TheGrayAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was actually surprised that we didn't find anyone else who had done the shoe storage solution like that before. I'm sure someone has done it, but we came up with the idea on our own. It's a great place to stow away the extra shoes without having to hide them under the dinette benches or bed.

    This is so very pretty, and looks so comfortable and homey!! That was such a brilliant idea for revamping the counters, and it came out so nice. You all did an amazing job! (I love your color choices too, that Tiffany Blue-ish is so pretty.)
    One thing that may help a little bit and would be super easy to install - glider drawers or baskets or shelves!! They're fairly inexpensive and would make utilizing the space (and getting to everything) a bit easier in some of those hard to reach and deep sections of storage, like in your pantry area - honestly, every cabinet. Just gliders in every cabinet, lol, you'd never have to dig for much again! ♥
    Tyfs. I hope you all have been having amazing adventures! Best of wishes to you and yours!

    Bichon? We have one as well and that’s what drew me to your videos. Well that and your awesome renovation. Totally my taste and colour scheme. Like the fact that you didn’t feel the need to rip everything out (as the trend nowadays seems to be) but instead just modernised and used most of the existing layout especially as it’s a nice layout to begin with. Subbed and will definitely be following along with your travels...

    • @TheGrayAdventures
      @TheGrayAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The dog is actually a Maltese and she is quite a character. We'll have to do a video on her one time.
      For the renovations, we wanted to keep things as simple and cheap as possible. We thought about swapping the couch and dinette out for a reach couch and table, but that would have added a good $500 to the final cost, plus the additional weight.

      It's time intensive, but pretty simple. The process took as about a week, but we did it in December, so things took longer than expected to dry. If you have 70+ degree weather and good ventilation, you could apply 2 coats on concrete per day, cutting the total time needed in half.

    Looks like the trailer you bought had pretty good bones. More of a decorating challenge than a renovation, but your end result is stunning. With three and a half months of continuous effort, you've proven that even a quick restoration is a lot of work without having to get into the mechanics, electrical, plumbing, HVAC ...etc.

    • @TheGrayAdventures
      @TheGrayAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our major setback was rebuilding the whole front of the trailer due to water damage, but we also installed solar and tweaked a few other things. This was a lot more that a bit of redecorating.

    • @TheGrayAdventures

      It actually works quite well for us. We are 9 months in and doing just fine. We actually ha e quite a few friends who we have met on the road and live the same lifestyle. Currently we are at a Campground with two other families that we have met before and there are two more families that will be joining us. The girls have met over 100 other kids on the road and keep in touch with them on a regular basis. When we travel, we are always arranging our plans so that we meet up with other families who travel like us. It's a great community and one that's extremely diverse with people from so many different backgrounds.

    Hi Rachel and Nick, you both have done a wonderful job with the `Treasure Ship`. But I have some questions where do you do your laundry and where do you dry them? And where do the kids get to school and aren`t you missing Italy? Greetings from The Netherlands, Virginie!

      Thanks for the questions. We usually stay at campgrounds and most of them have laundry facilities with washers and driers. Some can be pretty expensive, but we get lucky from time to time.
      We are homeschooling the girls which is quite common for families who are living and traveling like we are. Rachel does about 2 hours of schooling with the girls each day and our oldest daughter does additional work like reading, language and piano lessons on her own.
      And to answer your final questions... yes, we miss Italy a lot. We're having a lot of fun on our adventure right now, but we are hoping to make it back to Italy some day.

    About those turquoise fabric bins you have in the cubbies above your master bed, I found a greant storage diy option on TH-cam that takes plastic dollar tree bins and makes them stackable by using a clear tray from their "fancy" party area that sits so perfectly in the bin that then creates a place to stack another bin right on top. And because it's clear you can barely notice it. But seeing your color theme I would probably paint them white so you see the contrast of the turquoise and white beautifully.
    I love this video because you are utilizing very similar colors to what I'm looking to renovate my 2005 wildwood with, which is white and Tiffany blue with the Moroccan tile patterns like you have on your rug there.
    You guys gave me some great ideas and I'm excited to make my trailer more into a home.

    Hi, love your redo. We are redoing our 11 year old pull-behind. Covered the old, ugly, dark floor with a grayish modern manufactured tile. Now, on to painting the walls. If hubby will do it, one day I want the two different colors for the cabinets. I love your color choices. Will use some of them in our reno. Thanks, Diane, ps. Will try the cement counter top also.

    Looks GREAT!! Just a pantry thought, what about a slide out type pantry? Like you, I have watched many of renovations looking for inspiration and have seen some with really cool slide out pantries! Just would seem very easy to pull out the pantry to stock, as well as, being able to pull it out to see what is most often pushed back out-of-sight in shelf pantries! Love and hugs!

    I just found your channel and subscribed. I love this. My husband and I are hoping to do the same. Any tips or advice for trailer first timers? We will want to home school our littlest (6 years old) who will be coming with us (our older children are grown). Can I ask what homeschooling program you use? We are hoping to travel and make our way up to Alaska at some point. Can you give a rough estimate of the typical cost for a campground or if there are several BLM or state parks to camp at or rough estimate for the cost of gas during your travels? If there is anything that you wish that you did differently what would it be? Last question, what do you do for income?

    Mine is about the same. It's only 20 feet so no bunks. I'm going to remodel mine and was thinking about taking the refrigerator out to put counter across from the stove to the bathroom. Get a apartment size refrigerator to replace it. I really don't know what I'm doing so any help or idea's would be great. Basically wondering if you think that is doable?
    Thanks April

    Quick solution to pantry. Completely replace with a pull out or just put your existing shelves on sliders. Gotta be some easier way for your husband to make that more accessible for his lil woman. Lol. Gotta keep the woman of the home happy or nobodies going to be happy. Hehe. I live your work and those counter tops. They are beautiful.

    It's nice but you have to be practical when it comes to kids. They aren't going to stay little forever. They're going to get bigger, go through puberty, and want their own space. Their own privacy. And beds that will fit them.

      We're though of that, but it wouldn't work with how the RV manufacturer designed our specific cabinet. We would lose way too much storage space.

    I have seen a trailer w/a bunk house that had two slide outs (each side) and scads of room in the middle. One bunk was up high and had a love seat under it. It also had a flat screen tv, I think that arrangement would work really well w/your girls. Esp. when you mentioned when it rained and they could have their own "space" on those days. Maybe in the future. Love what you have now though too.

    • @TheGrayAdventures
      @TheGrayAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We did look at some like that, but they were longer than our trailer and the price was significantly more as well. Our girls loved the space they had. We made it work.

    In my opinion, most people ruin their RV when they start painting the inside as it's usually very sloppy and just doesn't look good. You guys make it look great! I see you painted the backside of the doors as well. Great job! Looks very nice.

    Could you cut out or somehow remove the narrow shelves in your pantry, and have a narrow shelf built on rollers? Then you could pull out the shelves to easily find the food. Each narrow shelf would need rails, so the bottles and boxes do not call off the sides.

    to make a pull out pantry without too much trouble, make drawers on metal casters that pull all the way out and then you can see and get to every thing. making drawers instead of tearing out the whole thing and starting over may be the easier way.

    Amazing transformation guys!! Love the modern look and your choice of colors!!! You said you sanded the cabinets did you use just sand paper or a buffer? And did you primer first or use paint with primer? I want to paint everything white and maybe stencil in some teal highlights. Great video guys!

    • @TheGrayAdventures
      @TheGrayAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We used regular sand paper and a small sander for the larger cabinets. We used two coats of primer before two layers of paint. We were going to do a paint and primer combo but chose not to after testing on a few cabinet doors.

    If you celebrate Christmas or Thanksgiving, it should be interesting to see how you deal with those dinners and decorating challenges. On the other hand... If you celebrate Hanukkah, Sukkot, Purim, etc.; I don't think you will have many challenges (because you're only storing candles, candlesticks and a Hanukkiyah. ;)
    P.S.: I subscribed to the channel because I am eager to see the above-mentioned events and your solutions for them in your tiny space.
