Thanks for subscribing! I have several friends that do the long-haul trucking, it seems there’s a huge overlap in what we do. We’re always sharing tips on catching a free shower, the best types of rest stops, and eating on the road! You have a sleep-in cabin I assume?...that’s basically a teardrop with better power! Haha... be well Duane!

That's pretty cool that you and Cosmo got to bump elbows, literally ;-)
I bought a 10FB last year and I agree with your reviews completely. Thanks so much for your honest reviews. It's not a bad trailer and as you eluded to if you're handy all the better. Braxton could do better though and I think they should. With some refinement and better QC they could have a winner on their hands. Other than the frame to cabin recall I've pretty much solved all my warranty issues on my own. Honestly, had I let the dealer fix those items the trailer would've spent more time in the shop than on the road last year. But I've got plenty of familiarity with fixing RVs so all in they were fairly trivial for me to work on. I'm enjoying mine and in fact I'm off on another trip with it tomorrow.
If you're interested here's a couple of photos showing what I started in the kitchen last Summer to get a proper compressor fridge out back in short order. It's only temporary as I'm still trying to sort out exactly what I want to build out back. I did have to delete the sink and now just go with collapsible wash tubs. I have no interest in fitting a sink as there's no good options for a mounted grey tank and I don't care for the ensuing swamp under the trailer. photos.app.goo.gl/FF67uE6pFp5272sH9
So other stuff. Sort out the kitchen, obviously. So far I power it off a single 100W hard panel. I'm out West so sun power isn't hard to come by. I'm waiting for the "stock" battery to die off before I upgrade that. Surprisingly that cheap little 80AH wet battery [ which really only is good for 40AH ] just keeps on ticking no matter how much I abuse it. The radio is ridiculous. Braxton, if you follow any socials postings about your products then please do yourself and your customers a favor and ditch the radio in favor of one of those Furion RV bluetooth dockable speakers. Or just toss in any decent USB chargeable unit. I've got an ARB awning and side tent on backorder. Hopefully I'll get it before the season is too far along. I'm fine with rigging up a tarp but my wife? Not so much. The design for the AC mounting in the 10FB has a lot of problems that can't be properly resolved and I typically follow the weather so I've rarely used AC in any RV I've had. It's coming out. I suspect that on yours it works far better as it's much more open on the condensor side. I keep looking at how Vistabule did that pass through window and am inspired by it. Once I come up with a plan for that I'll be redoing the entire rear cabinet and deleting the AC and maybe a pass-through.
A suggestion if I may? Instead of changing the lenses on your side lights how about installing rock lights below the cabin? You can get amber, red or whatever suits you. That also puts the lights below eye level so you can still see the ground fine and keep your "night eyes" working well. I really like the VERY BRIGHT clear side lights as they are for one thing. Backing in and setup late at night, especially in tight spots. I recently picked up one of those portable water heaters and am thinking of ways to plum that in but right now I just hang it from the roof rack and plug it into the QR water port. So that "15 feet" of kitchen hose came in handy after all ;-) I've swapped out the stock USB ports for QC3 units and added a couple more and some 12V ports as well. Oh, a little thing. I added some Anderson power poles in the galley for the fridge. I found when bumping down fire roads and the like the standard 12V sockets don't hold the cable very well.
All in it's a great way to camp and it's fun to tinker with it. If you don't have the budget (or patience to wait for the build, like me) for a high-end teardrop then these can be had pretty easily. I got mine when they were still $10K but prices on them are getting up there now I've seen. Small mobile digs is the way to go for me. Boondocking and quick setups, so awesome!

Imagine watching an episode where he drives to your house, pretty funny!
I'm going to do the frame/cabin recall this week, they have not even contacted me about it, I had to find out online 😠 Looks pretty easy to do and I'm going up and down the E coast this month, no way I'm bringing to the dealer. You're trailer looks great! If you set up a table, that galley will be a lot more useful than the factory one. Also, if you put your fridge on sliders, you could run the counter space the whole way over top the fridge, you're on to something! I'm a huge fan of APP plugs myself! Thanks for sharing, I'm still brainstorming my kitchen reno.
If you maintain the wet battery, they're def hard to kill. Like I said in the vid, bc I work with batteries, i'm a little spoiled. With the amount of sun you're getting, what are you thinking of going to...100ah agm??
I've heard all of the issues with the FB air con venting issues. BC will do upgrades for free if you ask. I'm sure they will take their time, but a lot of folks have reached out to me saying that their dealer drilled out and added a fan to cool the unit. I wish you luck there, accidental benefit of 10SS I guess. Pulling it out works well too...
LOVE the underlighting option, I will probably to this! any suggestion on product you like...switch>?
Couple tips to share... I use the winterizing line for hot H2O, it's not as nice as plumbing it in, but with no modification you can turn the valve undersink and have hot water...lol...it works
I used WD-40 and a washcloth to remove the Bushwhacker adhesive left behind after taking the stickers off. If you have any sun fade negatives, use car detailing compound with a little grit in it and it will blend it out. After you did all of that work, you might as well leave no trace...haha
Really glad you reached out to share, we're all better off in community, bouncing ideas and sharing our successes and failures. Hope you subscribed and keep circling back with ideas and progress reports on your BW. Thanks, Brian

@@DIYOutdoorLife Yep! Bit of an inception that story about Cosmo driving to your place. I got a chuckle from that :)
The recall, all that entails is installing 6 machine bolt-washer-nut combos, 3 per side, right through the floor into the frame. There are wire chases against the wall and under the raised floor panels. They just drilled through there. I learnt this because the dealer pinched my furnace thermostat wire with one of the bolts. That repair was not too easy but I did it anyway, about 3 hours to troubleshoot and repair. I wasn't taking it back to them for that. It'll sit on the back lot for at least a week before they get around to it. That place is absolutely slammed right now so I'll avoid them. If you want details on the recall feel free to DM me.
When I do get around to a battery change I'll at least go with 100AH AGM. But then there's the tried and true dual 6V config too (I've used that config the most over the years) and I have a dealer out here that carries some quality AGM 6 volt stock. Total overkill for that little guy but I want to play with an inverter. Also considering LiFEPo but if I go that route I'll roll my own because I want to try that out. It appeals to my nerdly ways. I'll need to improve some of my charging electronics to do that properly though. I will be adding a 2nd panel in any case, probably a 190W. One permanently mounted on the roof rack and another for ground use. Makes the system a bit more robust and convenient.
I have not yet done the underlighting on this one. I did help out a buddy and install some under his pop-up camper and it came out really nice. There was nothing remarkable about the lights, just some basic amber leds I think he got at a 4WD shop. Looked like marker lights with very thick lenses. I'm thinking that on mine I might drive 1 or 2 of them off the load side of the solar charge controller. That'll give me some automatic lighting. I'd prefer to keep things dark but some places I frequent have k-rats and mice and underlighting helps to keep them away. Varmints in the camper is no fun. That's what the load output on the charge controllers are meant for, BTW. Driving low current lighting that comes on when the sun goes down. It's a carry-over from the boating industry and I believe a requirement for them.
Yeah, that front graphic made some fade marks in the clear coat. I still need to get some claybar and work that out. The others came off fine. Our sun out here destroys everything in short order though so they were very baked on. I had to do 3 stages myself, heat gun+goof-off, then water and alcohol and then soap and water. I think total it was 6 hours of work. Worth it though as I think it looks way better sans graphics.
I've got a few ideas on the kitchen. One problem I have with mounting the fridge on slides under a full-width counter is I'll need to get it up pretty high to clear that 2" lip on the door frame. That gets that counter pretty high up so I would need to be more mindful of that when parking. I've thought about leaving the fridge stationary and making a section of counter over the lid that would extend on slides, technically making an L-shaped counter. I'm also thinking about sliding the fridge and building shelving above it. I've got a good sized roll-up table so I'm not too worried about counter space. I'm leaning towards the sliding fridge topped by cabinetry. I also need to re-work the furnace ducting some so I can fit a drawer above it and below the stove.
Alright, quittin' time is almost here. Time to go hook that thing up and take that trip I mentioned.

@@charlesswank6401 Great stuff! I'll test some of it out for sure...love the under lighting idea.
I've been building lifepo for years but hate using them on RV's. When I run them, I disconnect the charger from tow vehicle...even with DC-DC charger its not really good to mix chemistry like that. I was thinking about splitting the electric with both an AGM and lifepo with an isolator...Ill keep you in the loop!

Did he just say you cannot use your AC unless you are at a campground?????

    • @DIYOutdoorLife
      @DIYOutdoorLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Cosmo is referring to alternating current here, not air conditioning. The 110v standard outlets do not run off the battery, the trailer does not have an inverter. In order for the ‘ac’ outlets to work, the trailer needs to be plugged in to shore power or generator.
Several people asked about this confusing part, thanks for commenting 🙂

Same as any camper or a cabin really. If they want in, they'll get the job done, but human presence is enough to keep them disinterested. Never heard of anyone having an issue but the galley on a teardrop isn't fortified or anything. 🐻🐻
