Love the concept, but the roads on the east coast would chew those low clearance parts in a heartbeat.

True. The clearance will probably be higher in the final version. They are currently testing, and te feedback from the community is the same, we all want it a little higher. Thanks for the comment.

Great summary video, thank you! My wife and I pre-ordered an Aptera and made a small investment in the company in November of 2021. We can't wait to be driving this beautiful, efficient roadster!

Thanks for another well done video. Gotta note that your blog is really excellent also. You should include a link to it in your show notes so that it is easier to get to.

Thanks Joel. Unfortunately the blogsite suffrered a malfunction that I'm trying to fix so I didn't link it this time. Hopefully it will be back up soon.

Regarding the third seat, it sounded like it might be an option rather than coming as standard. Chris didn't specify the 250 mile vehicle explicitly, he said "base Aptera". It's not clear exactly what that is referring to. He immediately starting talking about future versions with more seats / 4 wheels / etc. So it is possible that he actually meant that it would be a follow-up model rather than the first model released. His exact wording is as follows:
    > "He asked a question about a possible third seat. It's not the most exciting question, but yes, we do plan on having a third seat option in the base Aptera, and our future is, we think that aerodynamics, lightweight, efficient power train, solar powered vehicles can be adopted to almost any platform, and we want to make a world a more efficient place. We think we can do that by having many different variants of the Aptera"

Thanks for the comment WyndStryke. You are right it is definitely an optional extra and yes, he only said Base you are correct, so it’s a little open to interpretation of what he meant by Base. To me he means the most basic version of the Aptera which would be the 250-mile version. I would love to be wrong on this one because a 400-mile 3 seat version would be amazing!
Could he be referring to a future one as you say? Maybe. We know they have a 4-seater already in concept, this would be the next logical step. It's unlikely they will change the body shape of the current Aptera anytime soon to accommodate a third seat, so the most likely option seems to be using the dead space for the additional batteries as a footwell for a central third seat.
      Interesting comment thanks.

I seem to recall a discussion on the optional 3rd seat in another video.the issue maybe that only the smaller 25kW battery will allow the room in the belly pan for the 3rd see. I suspect that might be the case

Thx. for the video. I am both an Aptera reservation holder as well as an investor.
I really hope that they include the bidirectional charging option. At least a V2H option if not V2G.
Also, even though I like the idea of yoke, I thought the looks of this one was a bit too silly. I would rather have an option for Tesla type Yoke.

The Tesla yoke is pretty cool I have to admit, but the Aptera yoke seems more friendly somehow. Thanks for the comment.

The Aptera design philosophy is the direction that EVs need to go in the near future. Rapidly increasing demand for battery materials will significantly raise the price of your typical EV with their massive and heavy battery packs. Going further on smaller & cheaper battery packs and utilizing solar-assist technology is a big plus for Aptera that will make it very competitive in the market. I just reserved one: White, 250 mile range, AWD, full Solar.

The third seat is an interesting idea. I am wondering if it would be configured similar to a McLaren or the rear facing seat like in the Honda Dream II solar car.

After the elio I would think people would be reluctant to put money down to reserve one y

    • @passivlife
      @passivlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lol, the Elio? The off the shelf parts thing? Not the same my friend. Aptera is a highly engineered super efficent Solar vehicle, more like formula one car, but much more aerodynamic. The aim of Aptera is to create the most efficient road vehicle in the world. The aim of the Elio is to create one of the cheapest. Not a bad concept, but they are not the same.

@@passivlife I believe it's a better vehicle the people who put money down to reserve the elioended up with nothing my point being after that fiasco I'd be reluctant to put money down to reserve any new thing with wheels.

Having EV industry pundit Sandy Munro involved as a consultant and investor greatly enhances Aptera'-s design and production as compared to what Elio had going for it. Other than both being auto-cycles, it's an apples & oranges comparison.
