When I was a broke teenager, I just produced for fun as a side hobby that I did once in awhile. There was no way I could justify spending a lot of money on software when I wasn't making any. But when I got a real job after college, I started to get more into it and I began buying my software and plugins as I had the money to do so and I'm far better of a producer for it. There is pride thing in regards to buying my own software and plugins, not to mention the fact that I am far more likely to take the time to actually learn the plugin/software I dropped 300 dollars on, versus just pirating it, running through the presets for 15 minutes and moving on.
KeyQualizer I also use to crack music software. The reason was because think about it. Most top celeb musicians or producers started out at a young age. Who has money then ? How can you become this musician without being able to access these software at a young age. What? I can only start when I have a necessary amount of money? Probably like 25 to start ! Obviously people with a passion with something want to become successful at a young age. Cus who wants to fucking waste life? I pirated pretty much everything, I'm from a 3rd world country, it's fucking hard for musicians here. EVERYTHING is fucking expensive for us, and I wasn't gonna let that stop me from even just getting experience for that one day when I'm able to afford it, I'll buy it then.
i think piracy for music production is ok for people that are starting out. Kinda like an extended free trial. I mean some people are not even sure if they want to produce music until they start. And also why limit music creation to only those who can afford it? I think piracy has given opportunities to people who otherwise wouldn't have it. The problem for me is when they make it big and still refuse to buy the tools they need to work. That is unacceptable.
Blazertron nice question, but in the case of software robbing, there is almost no loss in piracy, because people like us learn softwares first and then invest money on something if that thing is worthy. We try instruments in musical shops, we borrow and play instruments of our friends too, right? The wrong thing happens when you pirate a software and earn money using it.
Blazertron its not like i will earn 200$ from this software and then i will purchase a legit copy. It is more like if i successfully learn it and if i achieve some crazy skills in it so that i can earn money then and then only i will invest my money on that thing.
I am 17 years old, I live in Greece (You can understand a lot from that I guess), I have no income and I surely wouldn't ask my parents to buy me a VST plugin that costs 1k euros, I can't even ask them to buy me a cheap Oxygen 49 MIDI keyboard that costs around 100 euros. I myself don't like pirating things and I really want to buy my staff but every time I check out the prices, they are so high that I can only dream about buying them. If there was no piracy, I would have to wait 10 more years to finish school, go to college, finish that, go to the army, get a job (If I am able to) and start saving money for 1 year just to buy a single VST plugin. Sounds really unfair to me cause in this time period I could become a professional music producer. I believe that we should be allowed to use software staff for free if we don't make money by using these staff or at least get a much cheaper license than a commercial one.
When you pirate something, the creator of the file/program doesn't loose anything whatsoever, because I wouldn't have bought it in the first place if I didn't buy it, As seamless said. It is a digital copy and there are an infinite amount of copies. However you should buy these programs because if you take the time and effort to pirate something, it should be a good enough program that you should give the makers of this program/file money for it. It is the same with producers and songs, you should support them if you take the effort to pirate it.
***** The view people have with software development pricing and sales is similar on the surface to medical drug R&D and sales. There's quite the powerful moral argument against expensive drugs but the reality is if companies couldn't charge what they do for drugs then they wouldn't be able to justify the expense of R&D. There'd be no incentive for independent companies to go in on it. Lots of people think tools, music, drugs, food, everything should be free. Maybe it should, but producing these things is always an investment, one that requires return in order for it to be sustainable.
***** i hate when people use that excuse, it's only bytes, a copy, the creator won't lose anything... If it is just a digital copy, why do you want it so bad then? isnt it just 0s and 1s? Oh, you want a non-tangible experience that comes from a non-tangible product that you just used consumed without paying for it -.- If you gonna pirate, at least be honest about it, stop using such a lame excuse to justify what is already well defined as digital theft just so you can feel better.
***** I'm not gonna be pretend to be some guy who never pirates or anything, but just saying: You say that the content creator does not lose anything, but most of the things you pirate are probably made by teams of people, who took a ton of time. When you pirate their software, it is as if their *time* (which is not infinite) as been stolen, you know what I'm saying? Like he spent X amount of hours, and did not get paid for it. In conclusion, while infinite copies are available, time is not infinite, and people probably spent a LOT of time creating a program good enough that you would want to pirate.
The team that developed the program only used their limited time to make ONE copy of the program. The original. Then it is copied and sold (and pirated). The time they spent on that one copy was meant for the people that were going to buy it, but if you pirate it, there still is no difference. It all depends on how you look at things and your opinions.
This is why I like seamless, he's not all "I'D NEVER PIRATE ANYTHING DON'T PIRATE OR YOU'RE NOT A REAL PRODUCER!" 90% of people pirate when they first start because nobody has the money to invest $400+ in DAWs and Plug-ins, the other 10% is rich or begs their parents for Christmas. He's the realest producer I know. Props to you, Seamless.
i pirated flstudio since it was first crackable. never once tried to sell anything i created for fear of repercussions legally, but mainly cause i suck lol. But i learned HUGE amounts of stuff from reason and fruity loops that i never would have through watching videos or messin with demos. I finally purchased the producer addition a few years ago and it was like being able to come out of my jail cell, quite nice to be able to share, communicate with paid users(forums) and not hide in the shadows.free upgrades for life was a HUGE incentive to do so. Granted i still have not made a penny off of what i produce, but at least i dont have to keep it hidden. Plus the developers need to feed families and what not as well.
Personally, I have no problem with pirated software to be used for education purposes. If any money is aiming to be made, however, it should be bought.
Some people even pirate games that have single and multiplayer, play the singleplayer, like it, and buy the full game to be able to play the multiplayer. (because things like tunngle or hamachi just don't really do the trick there) So they get their own demo version of it since demo versions somehow don't exist anymore. At least for most games.
I started out with a pirated copy of FL 10 and once I payed for FL and got the legit copy of 11 my workflow and creativity increased. Not sure what caused that since there were not many changes but maybe it was my mindset.Telling myself "I own this now so I will put more effort."
That might be a bit out of context, but honestly your channel is the most valuable thing on TH-cam to me! Thx for being authentic and doing what you love!
About the whole "not needing plugins" bit: it's because of you that I think Waves or Izotope plugins are massive wastes of money. Why spend $250 on a single EQ, or $2000 on a plugin bundle, when you can do it the SeamlessR way and do all of your signal processing with stock FL plugins (Maximus, EQ 2, Waveshaper, chorus, etc.) and a $50 reverb and get great results? I'm not saying Waves or Izotope plugins are bad, but I think they cost WAY more than the benefit they provide to your studio. There are much better things to spend your money on (i.e. good monitoring equipment, acoustic treatment, a nice orchestral sampler).
I've got a pirated version of FL Studio 11, but I'm going to be getting a legitimate copy of FL Studio 12 soon. I feel like if I'm going to be making a career out of music production, I should be using software I got for legitimately.
That feel when you buy a game on Steam... Awesome. Id buy anything that i need if i could because devs that made it are the bosses and we should appreciate them more.
UltraTorque Did know you don't actually own the games that you may have purchased through steam, you only own a license to access a the game through the steam client.
The way I think companies like Image Line could limit piracy is to create some sort of system that allows the full version of FL or any other program and it's included features to be "bought" for free. To allow that, what users should be able to do is to link their bank account to Image Line and as soon as they make money off of music made with the program, all of that money goes to repaying FL, prior to making it available to the user. What this would allow is for people who want to get into making music (or whatever it is they might want to do with the program) to have access to the full unlimited features without third-party plugins to muck about with if they don't want to get serious with it. But as soon as it gets serious, Image line gets paid. It's a win-win situation really, the consumer doesn't get robbed of their money if they don't intend to use the software for profit, and Image Line gets a publicity boom because a lot more people get to try the full FL experience. Also, younger people without an income would be able to get FL without spending their parents' hard-earned money, but as soon as they start making profit, the system kicks in and Image Line still gets the money without any major inconvenience on both ends. And we all know how some younger producers become absolute legends, eh Vexare. I don't know how this could be implemented financially, but it's a nice idea in my opinion. Anyone else?
Justin Koenig Maybe they could monitor income from certain sources like TH-cam, Soundcloud or Beatport and claim those sources. Or IL could store FL-made songs into a database, use a content-ID type system and go from there. I'm not an expert at any of this but it should be possible to some extent. And if users were to find a way around this system they'd simply get their licenses revoked.
xXRandomCamperXx well they way you try it it would be a bit unpracticable.. but the idea of beeing free for as long of doing free stuff and paying percentage x of income made by it.. is a good thing I think.. and is btw.. exactly the way EPIC does it with their unreal engine 4 .... the complete engine including the source code.. and so.. is free for everybody... as long as it is beeing used uncommecrially... for example indies who just wanna make a free game or so... or if someone sell the game made with it.. epic gets a small percentage of that income made by the game.. and thinking of what an amazing engine the ue4 is... that is an amazingly fair and great concept I think but ofcourse it is much easier to control that with games... then with tracks
NoNameLeft1500 But as I said, somehow limiting where the tracks are allowed to be uploaded and monitoring them seperately seems like a plausible idea. and revoking the licenses of people who cheat the system as well, as a second barrier. Using some sort of content-id system might be the best way to go i think, even though we all know the reputation of content-id.
xXRandomCamperXx limiting where the tracks are allowed to be uploaded?? that would kill the software for me... that would put every way of professional use into the trashbin and making it a thing like the old magix musik maker thing or ejay or something like that... for example when I do sound design or jingles or such stuff for media or homepage uses or such stuff.. that would be a total no go.. or even when I just do my music... I don't upload that stuff here on youtube or such thing... I send it to the lables I am connected with and those are pressing it on CD or putting it on bandcamp or releasing it on their side or on ektoplazm or whatever... limiting where tracks are going might work for those who just upload their stuff on youtube und soundcloud... but it is not working if you go a bit further into the professional area... I give my tracks to the label.. they are giving those to the mastering engineer (if I am not doing it myself..(like compilations or if it is more then just an online release like a CD) and those are sending the DDPs and such stuff to the manufacturing and then to the distribution... indeed I never uploaded a single track on youtube...others uploaded my tracks on youtube... (which made me proud btw.. it's a nice feeling to see your own tracks on youtube even you never uploaded them yourself...because it shows that some people like it and want people to hear it) however I am driving away from the topic... limiting where tracks to be uploaded.. is a very unpleasent idea... and since IL is still a bit struggeling with that "unprofessional" image.. I know it's not true.. and I also don't know where this image came from..(just because of the name? or the mango icon`? ) but every step in such direction would lead to a big push in the unprofesional image again... because I have to say it would be unprofessional indeed..
DannewK That's such a shit excuse. If you were a dev, and worked on a plugin that you thought was worth a bit, and priced it fairly, and then had people pirate it "because they were getting started", how would you feel?
13:37 That´s an really important statement. I also tend at the beginning to collect many stuff I don´t really needed and which also caused me to loose my overview and not to get good with certain plugins I really need.
Excellent Video! I actually wrote a paper in college that had to defend piracy, and, ignoring the quality of a college paper, It actually was surprising how little piracy affects the economy, and in some developing countries it bolsters it.
In my opinion, pirating is wrong, and illegal, so don't so it. But if you're just kind of playing around with the plugins and stuff just for shits n giggles, it's still wrong but overall pretty harmless at the end of the day. But if you make money off of your music, and you have pirated software, then you have no excuse anymore. I have not pirated a single plugin or DAW that I own.
EHD He and Avicii as well has been caught that they using pirated version of plugins and they admitted that they used it BUT, they are all just lazy because both of them had a legit copy of those plugins just they didn't cared. And they bought most of the plugins even before when they got famous
Győri Sándor I know, I don't know about right now, but in 2014 when martin garrix was famous deadmau5 made fun of martin for having a pirated version of fl studio
Honestly I don't think pirating is wrong when you are learning or just play around and not making any profit out of it. But if you are making money from pirated software, then it's really bad.
Well said, though I would add that to get started producing now as compared to 15 or so years ago is waaaaaaay cheaper, easier and more accessible. Being able to get started for a few hundred dollars is amazing. Obviously younger generations will have a different perspective having not been restricted by needing to purchase hardware to get started, but I believe it is already no longer prohibitively expensive even for teenagers/students to get started.
As a broke (English) college student, I've pirated a lot of software in my teen years. Mainly because I was interested in music production, graphic design, motion graphics, animation, etc. and in all honesty, at ages ten to, well, now, I just didn't see the point in paying for a piece of software I wanted to use to teach myself how to design pretty posters or make some awesome music. Am I aware that piracy is not a victimless crime? Absolutely. Do I really care that much to not do it? Not really. But then, I'm not a professional at any of these things that I do. If I become a professional and earn some decent money from it, I will definitely buy the tools I use to earn a living. Until then... Sorry, capitalism.
I've pirated fl and some plugins because just I can't afford to buy them. The way I see it is that they're so expencive because it's designed to make money with them. I've promised to myself that as soon as I start to make money using the stuff I've pirated I will buy legit copies of them. For example I started making money by being a dj so I bought a legit copy of serato dj. At first I started to practice with a pirated version of it because I didn't know if being a dj even is my thing so I didn't want to spend that much money for a software I might use for a week and then never use it again.
Hello. When I wanted to learn more about producing music I searched around for affordable software. Some were used, but they had the keys in the package. I made sure I bought the software with the entire disks that came from the companies. I never bought any downloadable software, because they always asked for too much money. I learned all I wanted to learn from all of them and stayed with the ones that I found useful. I put the other ones away in my closet. Some of the software that I bought are not the upgraded versions. They work well and I can complete my projects. What I learned from all of them is that they all do the same thing. They all have the same effects and everything that I need to complete a project so I chose to stick with a few that helps me complete my projects quickly without any problems. I also found a few sites that have free vst's that have a lot of presets on them. I have around 49 vst's. One of those vst's have 25,000 presets on it. I searched around and found a lot of nice things. I just work around with what ever I can.
Hiii seamless, I have a question about the real workflow of music industry.. I have started to watch your youtube tutorials. They are amazing. can you make a tutorial about different roles of people in music industry. From audio engineers.producers, composers, marketrs, distributors, labels n all those roles and how the workflow is between all these. I dont think a lot of people know about these behind the curtain things. hope you can clear this up for me... thnx for all the knowledge you have shared. And have a nice day.
I pirated games before because I was REALLY interested in it, but didn't want to spend 50 - 60 or so dollars to try it and its completely broken or simply not good. A lot of those games I ended up buying.
Piracy leads to appearing more professionals. People learn pirated software, get use to it, become professional and buy it eventually(or use licensed version when applied for a job). So, software companies get their money anyway.
I signed up for East West ''Composer cloud'' two month ago... It's amazing, now I got most of their virtual instrument installed, just ready for use, for just around $40 a month or so (I'm not sure what the $ price is, since I'm paying in danish Kr.) Stuff like Hollywood strings and brass, Silk and the amazing reverb ''Spaces''
It is said... that in SeamlessR the Arrrrr is silent.... but apparently that doesn't apply to Piracy... what ye landlubbers be sayin' about Blackbeard? Oh... oh... just because he has a black beard and is talking about piracy doesn't mean he is actually a pirate... hmmm I see. :/ Got it. :D
when i realised my cracked software was destroying my computer big style,i decided id rather save my money and buy it legit, then ruin my 900 euro laptop for 100 euro software
The entire show "Community" was canceled for low watch rates on NBC. In the United States, the entire show is available on Hulu. Seasons one through four are available on Netflix in Canada, while the first three seasons are available on Netflix throughout Latin America with Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. The first four seasons are available via the iTunes Store. The series was available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video UK until February 1, 2015, when seasons one through five also became available on Netflix in the UK and Ireland. In Australia, the entire series is available on Stan. The rest of the world nothing. Was picked up by Yahoo for its final season *for free*. Turns out that the rates were actually huge, not even taking piracy around the world into aspect. #andamovie
*SeamlessR* how true is companies like Heavyocity or Spitfire are using watermarked samples? For example, If somebody makes a song using pirated versions of their software they can see it using their "technology". I'm asking this because you said if they catch you using a pirated plugin the can go after you. I think it's impossible for a watermark in audio to survive after EQ, compression, you know, mixing etc...
Just ask Eric Prydz. Pryda snare has been spammed literally everywhere, so yes, watermarked sounds exist, stick a compressor on it and they're gone though.
I payed for my copy of FL studio allthough it's way to easy to just download a pirated version. So why did I buy it? Some people think that's just throwing money out the window.. after all, you can pirate it for free! Why I bought it: I ended up really liking the sofware. It's not just about morality and ethics. I wanted to contribute to the developers making it. Also, I feel that having payed for my copy I'm helping the developers to keep improving the software, making it better and better. And that is in a way an invenstment in my own music production, I get better software, better tools etc. I can't help but think that probably 95% of everyone using FL studio has a pirated version. We're on FL studio version 12 now, but if everyone who uses it had payed for it then we would probably be on FL studio 17 by now.. Just imagine what kind of great features we could have had by now if more people whould have payed for it! The thing is, software developers won't develop anything if they don't get payed for it. They need to make a living like everyone else. Would you keep on going to work if you didn't get payed? If you really like a software, that beeing a daw, a plugin or whatever, then buy it to support the develpers. In the case of FL studio with it's lifetime free updates it's also an investment in your own music. You're actually paying for faster updates, better fuctions etc etc. Anyone who is serious about their music should think hard about that argument. The entertaiment industry is a whole other story though. The industry won't allow me to see what I want even if I'm willing to pay for it, so I'm not loosing any sleep from downloading my favorite TV show that happens to NOT be available in my country.. There is simply no way I can see it legaly! And If I want to watch star trek then I'm going to do it if they like it or not! Give me the option to see what I want when I want, and I'll gladly pay for it. When they try to decide what I can and Can't watch then I'll just watch it anyways, and they won't get any money.. They could adopt the popcorn time idea and people would gladly pay for it rather than keep downloading stuff.
+FireWalk how many people would not become producer if they would not pirated daw and plugins? I guess many, I think that most of those people who was using pirated versions bought it as soon as they started to get money from it, if they wouldn't pirate before, developers would not even have so much customers as they have now.
One thing is not mentioned, and I think it's the real core of the matter: digital goods are abundant in nature. They're created once and then they're there forever and accessible to everyone for free. Having to pay for these things is just an artefact of our economic system. We all appreciate the work that a software engineer or a music producer do, but it is a type of work that regards a higher level in the pyramid of human needs. Our system is based on the most basic one, survival, and its mechanism is not transposable to this new area of work. So the problem of piracy is a derivation of a problem of the human system at large. Any moral consideration will be pulled by two conflicting reference frames and no solution will pop up. I think it just makes sense to acknowledge and accept that we are in this transition phase, being grateful in your heart for what you've received, and seriously start thinking about moving on toward the next generation of human ecosystem. It is a big move but that's our mission to carry on and the first step is to address and solve the problem of survival in principle. And here the speech takes off to areas completely unrelated to piracy, but I hope this mental frame will help who feels internally conflicted about the ethics of piracy.
+Gilligan In the long run, that would end up costing the producer more money. The only way it wouldn't would be either if the percentage the company receives is stupid low or if there was a cutoff date.
+Gilligan Actually, something like that already exist! In game development, a game engine called unreal engine 4 used the same business model. If your revenue is more than a specific amount in one quarter, you pay them 5% royalty. I hope that music production market will use the similar business model soon enough. I'm pretty sure it'll stop most piracy problems.
what about say, using a harmor plugin as a demo and recording it and using that? I know it's a demo so not all the bits are there,( and sloted silence), and you can't re use it if you save, but does not buying it and using the recorded sound mean you cant put it in your songs?like paying for it means you buy a public usage licence? Or could you use the processed sounds after without the plug ins?
I bought FL studio signature bundle at a 70% after christmas special discount. I still can't believe I actually managed to do that. I don't use any plugins illegally, but I'm considering to buy Harmor or Serum soon.
Completely agree with you. Most of the people that end up buying the software might do so because they are used to the workflow of that specific software. I believe you did the right thing. If you didn´t, perhaps I wouldn´t be able to watch your videos... who knows! Thank you mister! :D
Just wanted to point out that the issue throughout world is often "absolute price" compared to the buing power in each country. For example now the price for FL studio 12 signture bundle is $290 which is approximately 25% of the minimum wage in US, while it is 70-80% of minimum wage in Poland. It's unbuyable for most of the people.
I'm building my own studio now! so first I'm saving money for a computer (because I have been making music on a shitty laptop for 5 years, then I will buy a set of good monitors (because I have been making music on iphone earbuds and cheap logitech computer speakers for 5 years) and when I get a little extra money after that I will buy a legit copy of fl. I have sooo many hours on fl, and I really would buy it if I could, but I feel it is a waste if I cant use the program to its full potential. I'm really looking forward to have my own spot to create music. not sitting in the couch.
Here's how I view piracy. If you want to try out software such as FL Studio as a beginner just to play around with it, decide if you want to pursue music and/or use FL as your software of choice, piracy can be a good place to get the tools you need to get started. If you casually make music as a hobby for non commerical purposes, you might not want to spend your money on it. However, if you get serious about music production and/or decide to do it commercially, you should definitely buy it to show your support to the developers that made it possible.
I am learning music production. Im heavily inspired by your tutotials. I like many types of genre, i mean, sometime i try to make dubstep, brostep, sometime progressive trance, sometime dnb, but i cannot complete my tracks. Because i m not expert in specific genre. I want to be an expert in specific type of music. So how to choose them ? I like many. But i know, its very difficult to have mastering in multiple genres. Im very confused, my mood swings every time. And i cannot focus on specific type . Please answer sir.Thank you in advance With warm regards........
Regarding your remark about Pirates using different FL Studio versions because there isnt a pirated version available for use, FL uses a registry file to register the program and the plugins within your operating system. This makes them backwards compatible (back to 7 or 8) and compatible up to the latest major update, i.e. FL 12 Licenses should work up to 13 or any other major update, maybe even beyond that. So, said pirates can use an FL 12 License for any version they wish.
i didnt know you did recording for bands and stuff thats dope; do you ever use maximus for mastering on those services? it's definitely professional and can really make things loud and clear
I wish companies would consider releasing their old vst plugins for free or at a cheap price without support after they go out of sale. There are a bunch or really sounds out there that you can't get anymore because the company who made it just dropped it after it became old.
Yes, they could sell it cheap but people who know what they are doing may not buy the new synths. There is a sampler that I use. They let it out for free and than they stopped it when the new one they made came out.
Hey Seamlessr. I know this video is really old but my question is what do you do when a developer no longer exist and you can't buy there software anymore. Example being camel audio who was bought out by apple and leaving their windows customers in the dust. I have legitimately bought everything I own but am I expected to become a apple user(which is crazy expensive) just to use one program.
SeamlessR I don't know if you would agree, but I feel like the subscription based things are harder to do. I feel more willing to buy something if it is a one time purchase. For example I do pay for Spotify and for Dropbox however, if you were able to just buy those once, I would. So do you like the one time purchases better? Or subscription based?
Oh man I used to pirate everything back in the day. I've used FL Studio for 7 years so I figured its about time I support my favorite DAW as well as other software I love. If I didn't have a well-paying job I might still be pirating...
Good stuff. I'll be honest I sometimes download music. But for the most part I've been trying to buy the music, 1album a month. I'll be buying some of your stuff soon. ^_^
I think the reason people Pirate is from a few reasons. - They can't afford the real version - They might just want to test the thing out before spending there money - There just edgy and wanna show off
Honestly, I feel kind of stupid for NOT pirating sometimes, just because of the stupid amount of money I've spent on music software over the years I've been into production. Reason, Ableton, FL Studio, Komplete, Trash2, and so much more, not to mention the ridiculous collection of sample packs. But at the same time, it's also a bit of a source of pride. It also means that my VSTs folder isn't completely clogged with crap I'll never use, and I know that everything is stable and eligible for support if needed.
i had to pirate camel phat 3, im looking for a crack for all camel audio plugins because their plugins are no longer on the market. i also initially had pirated FL11 when i first started which led me to buying a legit copy.
I have FL legit but I use FL 11 because of various reasons, I prefer to think most people with outdated FLs do it as well because of other reasons, not pirated.
I legally possess every single piece of software, hardware, and digital media I have. But when some individual songs cost $2.49 (as opposed to $0.99), I understand the temptation to pirate.
What if you end up making complete songs with pirated libraries, plugins, or the entire FL Studio DAW itself, and then once you realize that you really want to be making music and you buy everything and release those "pirated" songs sometime afterwards?
thanks for u flp on fl 11,12..i save the preset and sound to make better dubstep.. and yes i pirates.. but dont worry,i never posted it on my chanel.. im using Causic 3 police version
Hi Mr. Seamless I have a problem and I believe you are the one who can answer it, my FL Studio no matter the version, cant handle many vsts, the cpu is getting high so soon! I have a quadcore i7 on 64bit windows with focusrite scarlet 6i6 sound card, and running at 32bit plugins. Could you help me, I tried to find a solution but I couldn't. Do I need a better cpu? Forgot to mention, Cubase can handle 5times more vst plugins with no problem! Thanks a lot!
Wow really? The only thing I ever pirated in terms of music was FL Studio all plugins, but only because I felt like I wanna get started for a private project without the limits of the demo version. But as soon as I bought my educational version I immediately deleted the pirated one from my computer and got started again with a little fewer plugins. But that's fine, I didn't even know hot to design sound anyways at this point of time
This doesn't really relate to music, but I'm hoping someone will be able to hate me. I do a lot of audio editing, and I love using Cool Edit Pro. However, I use a pirated copy of Cool Edit, and I want to get a legitimate version of it. I don't want Audition CC, I want Cool Edit. Is there any way I can buy Cool Edit Pro.
*90's techno music* You wouldn't steal a car. you wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a yamaha DX7. Downloading Illegal software. IS STEALING!
Zero Music "Stealing" digital data practically is getting a copy of that data, you don't actually steal that one copy so it doesn't exist anywhere else. So getting 1 copy of digital data is not the same as stealing 1 copy of something physical as TV or a Microwave that took resources to make.
How does me downloading something make any change ? If i can't pay for something i couldn't buy that in the first place so the author wouldn't profit from me anyway and i also didn't take anything. Let me just tell you that the reason why someone is downloading something illegally is mostly because they are unable to make online purchases ( mostly underage people ). So it's actually not bad that you can learn on professional stuff without wasting so much money. Later when you have job and you're professional you will probably be able to pay every software that you need. I am sure that when you got your pc and internet that you were probably downloading stuff illegally because i don't know people who weren't. If it's such a big deal and creators are loosing so much money then why haven't we done something about it ? In most countries you are able to torrent anything you want without police coming to your door so i guess we aren't taking that as a big issue.
bubblegoose321 they updated copyright laws and made it punishable my law. You could be fined 150,000 dollars per illegal downloaded document. Only the copyright owner is allowed to make copies and distribute them. Plus, the whole piracy thing has a big impact on music as well. Last year only one album went platnium. No one is buying off iTunes, no one is buying cds, and this is why the only way musicians can make money is from touring. It does make a difference.
Totally agree. I pirate and i first tried sibelius 7 that way. Later when i had money i bought it just because its a good program and it became essential. Same with books etc but i still used cracked daw but when i have money i will buy it. My reason are the same as your if your going pro and you get paid then i beleive you should buy it. Also if you send a project to someone else with all the data im not sure if cracked plugins mess things up where it searches for stuff hmm?
What if you record let's say eight seconds of the sound of licensed synth but you don't have license for the synth( you just downloaded the demo). Is this the same as sampling eight seconds from licensed song. Sometimes you just like the way particular preset sounds from certain synth and all you need is to have few microseconds of the sound to re-synthesize it but you don't care about the synth in general. That's fucked up question because I have sample packs I bought and I can copy the sound of a synth and use the sound in a sampler. Than I don't own or even know what synth that is but I use it's sound. What smart people would do is sample few microseconds of a song and re-synthesize the sound and then you have thick weird sound no one ever heard before.
If you are streaming like illegal movies online you could get caught, they search upon the ip adresses and you could get a juicy ticket or jail, but if you are using like netflix with an different route to watch movies, that may be legal, but you could get a risk of getiing kicked out of the service. But buy the software or the plugins or the samples, because that means that you have the ownership of them to use them royalty free for those companies who are saying so, in doubt ask the author of the items.
The thing is, most people cannot afford the exorbitant cost of these production programs and plugins, and even sometimes the cheap ones. Some cant even afford to spend the $30 for Dada Life's Sausage Fattener. Yes piracy is wrong, but I can understand why you would pirate because you're broke, or if you would try out the product before buying it. What I dont understand are people who are loaded but still pirate these programs anyway and using them in pursuit of their career without actually buying them later.
I know this is old. but im literally going through this now with FL i spend 100 dollars on a software that gave me nothing. and so basically i have to spend 800 dollars more just to get everything i want. i use to pirate fl but i want to own it legit just like you.
Im watching this with an "Activate Windows" watermark on my screen...
Darian Alexander I can relate
@Offensive Phenomena well you're rude then
So you were not a pirate then - you were just using a trial version of Windows.
I used to pirate before I had a job. Now I try to support the people that make the things I use.
Ryan Hughes nah thats wrong many ppl like me just need some plugins to get more sounds. like with the stock plugins you not going far
same thinking
M-agYn MusYk Especially if you have no job.
M-agYn MusYk Especially if you have no job.
M-agYn MusYk that is exactly my position on piracy as well
I agree like how can u buy an fl studio when u can barely even buy bread every day..
Hasn't FL Studio sold more copies over time than any other DAW despite the fact that it has the highest percentage of pirated copies
ShopSongs Not *despite*, but *because of*.
mandokir no, not because of lol.. what are you talking a about. Shopsongs said it right
Ja jeweet The suggestion was that because it was so easy to pirate, when people did choose to buy a DAW, they chose FL.
ShopSongs like minecraft!
to be fair, FL studio is probably the best value for money of any DAW, you get some seriously good plugins with it and life time updates too
I'm in the same boat as many where if I ever make enough money to support myself through music, I'll go back and buy everything I've pirated
same
Same here
So you'd be willing to rob a music store for instruments, and pay them back when you make money from the music?
MFVideoCorporationHD Im greek too and i agree with what you say but you need to understand too that they dont have to make these products for you ...
Try Surge
It's like a free version of Serum
@@bluefire9113 The hellish version of Serum... although it is more lenient on the CPU than that MOnster of Serum.
@@ileryon4019 there's also a free wavetable synth coming on the 24th
It's called Vital by Matt Tytel
@@bluefire9113 Yeah! I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it's gentle on CPU cause I'm hoping to learn sound design on it. It looks incredible.
***** I intend on pirating software that i would purchase in the future, just for trail. when im sure that ii will help, i go buy it :)
***** i hate when people use that excuse, it's only bytes, a copy, the creator won't lose anything...
If it is just a digital copy, why do you want it so bad then? isnt it just 0s and 1s? Oh, you want a non-tangible experience that comes from a non-tangible product that you just used consumed without paying for it -.-
If you gonna pirate, at least be honest about it, stop using such a lame excuse to justify what is already well defined as digital theft just so you can feel better.
Same same, here
Personally, I have no problem with pirated software to be used for education purposes. If any money is aiming to be made, however, it should be bought.
Piracy is OK for non commercial use
Some people even pirate games that have single and multiplayer, play the singleplayer, like it, and buy the full game to be able to play the multiplayer. (because things like tunngle or hamachi just don't really do the trick there)
So they get their own demo version of it since demo versions somehow don't exist anymore. At least for most games.
Cyan exactly with CS:GO
I started out with a pirated copy of FL 10 and once I payed for FL and got the legit copy of 11 my workflow and creativity increased. Not sure what caused that since there were not many changes but maybe it was my mindset.Telling myself "I own this now so I will put more effort."
Maybe it was a placebo due to having had bought it.
***** Well just checked your music and I can say that you have a little ways of making it a career but goodluck!
Yeah xD
NO1 (NoOne) That was the most nonchalant douchebaggy comment that I have ever read. Hat off to you my friend
Mark Brutto I don't think he was trying to be a douchebag.
Ik it just came out like that
That feel when you buy a game on Steam... Awesome. Id buy anything that i need if i could because devs that made it are the bosses and we should appreciate them more.
UltraTorque Did know you don't actually own the games that you may have purchased through steam, you only own a license to access a the game through the steam client.
Hex iD Good enough for me if i can play it with no trouble
UltraTorque For now.
Anyone else?
xXRandomCamperXx nice idea, but impossible to detect when a user has made money with a certain song...
Justin Koenig Maybe they could monitor income from certain sources like TH-cam, Soundcloud or Beatport and claim those sources. Or IL could store FL-made songs into a database, use a content-ID type system and go from there. I'm not an expert at any of this but it should be possible to some extent. And if users were to find a way around this system they'd simply get their licenses revoked.
xXRandomCamperXx well they way you try it it would be a bit unpracticable.. but the idea of beeing free for as long of doing free stuff and paying percentage x of income made by it.. is a good thing I think.. and is btw.. exactly the way EPIC does it with their unreal engine 4 ....
the complete engine including the source code.. and so.. is free for everybody... as long as it is beeing used uncommecrially... for example indies who just wanna make a free game or so... or if someone sell the game made with it.. epic gets a small percentage of that income made by the game..
and thinking of what an amazing engine the ue4 is... that is an amazingly fair and great concept I think
but ofcourse it is much easier to control that with games... then with tracks
(which made me proud btw.. it's a nice feeling to see your own tracks on youtube even you never uploaded them yourself...because it shows that some people like it and want people to hear it)
however I am driving away from the topic...
limiting where tracks to be uploaded.. is a very unpleasent idea... and since IL is still a bit struggeling with that "unprofessional" image.. I know it's not true.. and I also don't know where this image came from..(just because of the name? or the mango icon`? ) but every step in such direction would lead to a big push in the unprofesional image again... because I have to say it would be unprofessional indeed..
I respect you for that. If any of my stuff ever sells, anything that I've had that was free will quickly go away.
Damn being underage. Can't make money and I feel bad for pirating. I basically have to use demo versions of everything. It sucks. A lot.
CorrosiveVisualizing just pirate lmao why yall acting like pussys its totally right to crack some stuff when you just get started
I know this is an old comment but can you link to a source about how piracy affects the economy? Legit curious
I 100% agree
***** Tell that to martin gariix
Obviously younger generations will have a different perspective having not been restricted by needing to purchase hardware to get started, but I believe it is already no longer prohibitively expensive even for teenagers/students to get started.
where is the weekly how to synth from yesterday :(

dann nehm ich super plus du pimmelberger
I just found out about the EastWest sounds through this video. How could I have been so blind all this time? I love you man
Hi, I am Seamless.
Hiii seamless,
I have a question about the real workflow of music industry..
Your video's are amongst the realest of video's in the history of video's, dear sir. Thanks alot and have glorious day!
I pirated games before because I was REALLY interested in it, but didn't want to spend 50 - 60 or so dollars to try it and its completely broken or simply not good. A lot of those games I ended up buying.
If you are serious or a professional than yes you should own your programs
***** No, you should always own your programs. There can be no excuse.
Escobar Manchulo obviously didn't listen to the video. lol
***** maybe he did but just have a differend opinion? :D
I'm not a professional but I'm super cereal which is why I bought it.
Piracy leads to appearing more professionals.
People learn pirated software, get use to it, become professional and buy it eventually(or use licensed version when applied for a job). So, software companies get their money anyway.
In the same boat for sure here.
Best answer broooo, still listen to your sample Song in FL studio 12
all these guitar purchases and whatnot kept setting me back in my savings for eastwest stuff and they have a subscription service? fucking sweet.
I signed up for East West ''Composer cloud'' two month ago... It's amazing, now I got most of their virtual instrument installed, just ready for use, for just around $40 a month or so (I'm not sure what the $ price is, since I'm paying in danish Kr.)
Stuff like Hollywood strings and brass, Silk and the amazing reverb ''Spaces''
It is said... that in SeamlessR the Arrrrr is silent.... but apparently that doesn't apply to Piracy...
what ye landlubbers be sayin' about Blackbeard?
Oh... oh... just because he has a black beard and is talking about piracy doesn't mean he is actually a pirate... hmmm
I see. :/
Got it. :D
EVERY FUCKING TIME YOU BRING UP THE GENRE OF HIPHOP YOU HAVE SOMETHING NEGATIVE TO SAY...
Dude, I could listen to you talk about coconuts all day long
when i realised my cracked software was destroying my computer big style,i decided id rather save my money and buy it legit, then ruin my 900 euro laptop for 100 euro software
ClapFlap That was a hoax...
Could you do a video about song cooyright, how to get it and how to claim etc. :)?
I guess many, I think that most of those people who was using pirated versions bought it as soon as they started to get money from it, if they wouldn't pirate before, developers would not even have so much customers as they have now.
semenless
What kind of mic is that? Amazing sound quality

And here the speech takes off to areas completely unrelated to piracy, but I hope this mental frame will help who feels internally conflicted about the ethics of piracy.
why can't they give it to you for free, but make you sign a contract saying that whatever you make from it, they get a fraction of your earnings
+Gilligan Fuck that haha.
mkay
+Gilligan In the long run, that would end up costing the producer more money. The only way it wouldn't would be either if the percentage the company receives is stupid low or if there was a cutoff date.
+Gilligan Actually, something like that already exist! In game development, a game engine called unreal engine 4 used the same business model. If your revenue is more than a specific amount in one quarter, you pay them 5% royalty. I hope that music production market will use the similar business model soon enough. I'm pretty sure it'll stop most piracy problems.
East west has a sub model now? I'm gonna look into that..
what about say, using a harmor plugin as a demo and recording it and using that?
How could a software company prove that you used a plug in that you don't have the rights to?
Here's how I view piracy. If you want to try out software such as FL Studio as a beginner just to play around with it, decide if you want to pursue music and/or use FL as your software of choice, piracy can be a good place to get the tools you need to get started. If you casually make music as a hobby for non commerical purposes, you might not want to spend your money on it. However, if you get serious about music production and/or decide to do it commercially, you should definitely buy it to show your support to the developers that made it possible.
I just want to ask this if you sent a song off to a company mp3 or wave how would they know you have a cracked fl studio?
Thanks SeamlessR. This video put me over the edge and I finally bought FL :D.
Please answer sir.Thank you in advance With warm regards........
how do i buy the last you made?
Regarding your remark about Pirates using different FL Studio versions because there isnt a pirated version available for use, FL uses a registry file to register the program and the plugins within your operating system. This makes them backwards compatible (back to 7 or 8) and compatible up to the latest major update, i.e. FL 12 Licenses should work up to 13 or any other major update, maybe even beyond that. So, said pirates can use an FL 12 License for any version they wish.
i didnt know you did recording for bands and stuff thats dope; do you ever use maximus for mastering on those services? it's definitely professional and can really make things loud and clear
freakin love this podcasts!
I know for a fact image line (fl studio) will take 70 percent of your royalties if they find out you don’t own the actual software
Or subscription based?
every great producer have used piracy in the beginning
Companies are never going to get money from the people who never intended to buy it.
I pirated the amen break while watching this
I just wanted to say thank you.. :) my music has improved a lot since i started using the dont care if it sounds good method xD
Cheers.!
Oh man I used to pirate everything back in the day. I've used FL Studio for 7 years so I figured its about time I support my favorite DAW as well as other software I love.
If I didn't have a well-paying job I might still be pirating...
"Pirating legal software is like buying a bong for tobacco use."
Good stuff. I'll be honest I sometimes download music. But for the most part I've been trying to buy the music, 1album a month. I'll be buying some of your stuff soon. ^_^
Aloha snackbar
I've pirated every piece of software I own and plan to continue doing this indefinitely.
I think the reason people Pirate is from a few reasons.
- They can't afford the real version
- They might just want to test the thing out before spending there money
- There just edgy and wanna show off
Honestly, I feel kind of stupid for NOT pirating sometimes, just because of the stupid amount of money I've spent on music software over the years I've been into production.
+Amadran
that's when u offer a free download
2sunami I don't think I would ever even sell music if I got to that point, to be honest.
why not?
2sunami Because I'd like my music to be free.
thanks for u flp on fl 11,12..i save the preset and sound to make better dubstep.. and yes i pirates.. but dont worry,i never posted it on my chanel..
im using Causic 3 police version
True: I would have never got Serum with 17 years if the Splice rent-to-own plan didn't exist
Wow really? The only thing I ever pirated in terms of music was FL Studio all plugins, but only because I felt like I wanna get started for a private project without the limits of the demo version. But as soon as I bought my educational version I immediately deleted the pirated one from my computer and got started again with a little fewer plugins. But that's fine, I didn't even know hot to design sound anyways at this point of time
how much money have you spent so far on plugins/synths/VSTs?
is asking someone to legally buy a synth and give/email the .Zip file to you piracy?
This doesn't really relate to music, but I'm hoping someone will be able to hate me. I do a lot of audio editing, and I love using Cool Edit Pro. However, I use a pirated copy of Cool Edit, and I want to get a legitimate version of it. I don't want Audition CC, I want Cool Edit. Is there any way I can buy Cool Edit Pro.
I can't find a place to buy Cool Edit, I can only buy Audition.
It's not discontinued, it's just being released as Adobe Audition
Hey you’re the guy who made bass antics 👌

Downloading
Illegal software.
IS STEALING!
Zero Music Did you know that the music that was used was actually stolen itself?
www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2013/01/29/3678851.htm
Zero Music "Stealing" digital data practically is getting a copy of that data, you don't actually steal that one copy so it doesn't exist anywhere else. So getting 1 copy of digital data is not the same as stealing 1 copy of something physical as TV or a Microwave that took resources to make.
bubblegoose321 dude how did Bill Gates become a billionaire? Sure you can't charge over those "meaningless bits that are just copies anyway"?
Are you allowed to make money off the Demo version of FL that includes all the plugins?
UnHipAlmond upgrade to fl studio producer edition. It comes with every plugin you need for 150$ more.
i do music production as a hobby and im not making any money from it so i wouldnt have any problem with pirating software.
