I love the modern design of this wildlife-friendly pool. It fits much better with the style of the house than the more commonly demonstrated 'naturalistic' designs.
Thank you :) It does show once more that wild doesn't have to be messy and there are hidden platforms within this water body so that creatures can still exit safely. Best wishes - Joel
Fantastic team you got there Joel 👏🏼👏🏼💪🏽💪🏽 Top drawer all round…the design, the construction , the materials, the rill, the floating stepping stones, the fence, the planting . Superb 👍🏼
Thank you Ed :) Really appreciate your support and I'll pass on your very kind comments - so glad you are enjoying the channel - stay safe, best wishes - Joel
Glad you liked this one, although it doesn't look like it, the sides with the vegetation are all built up gradually in the water to ensure everything can exit safely :) Just shows again that wild can be formal too - best wishes, Joel
Hi there :) I actually don't live too far away from this pond, so I am hoping to go back and visit the client (and now good friend) in late Spring time to show it at it's best - there is also a traditional wildlife pond in the garden as well as this formal one so I'll do an update on both :) Stay tuned! Best wishes, Joel
I sometimes have to pinch myself to remind me that I work with nature. We can all do our bit and be wardens of our own mini nature reserves. 😊 As for Sir David, it was a humbling experience and one I will never forget. What an amazing human being he is.
Hi Jon, absolutely it is - it's just eco-friendly waterproof paint and it's used just so the blocks are less visible in the water, purely aesthetic :) best wishes, Joel
I would like to make a smaller version of this with stepping stones. I have a couple questions. What did you paint on the bricks for the stepping stones? Was it paint or was it water proofing? And also would the pond be safe for a turtle? I’m just not sure if the turtle could get stuck under the stepping stones. ( I have a turtle and I think a pond would be great for him). Thanks
Hi. Thanks for commenting. The paint is black waterproofing paint, but it doesn’t have to be waterproofing paint. It was mostly to hide the pillars from above. This pond can be adapted to be turtle friendly if there are some shallow shelves and rocks for them to climb out of.
Hi - this a great video and has saved me from making some BIG mistakes. Can I ask at 6'06'' you're cementing the coping stones, but using one regular looking mortar and one which has a black colour. What's the difference?
Hi Damian - sorry for the delay, it's the busiest time of year for us at the moment and I'm just trying to catch up with everyone over a lunch break. The black colour is to "camoflage" the area under the water and is a paint that is suitable for water, no chemicals etc, it is readily available :) Hope that helps - I am so glad the video has been helpful to you - if you go to the channel and select "videos" you will be able to see a lot more videos that may be of help. Best wishes to you - Joel
Just beautiful and good on you. I like to look at other peoples ponds. I have 4 koi ponds that are surrounded by decking that we built ourselves. If you would like to take a look that's great. If not that's ok too. Take care and thanks for posting
Lovely pond and great finish! What paint is used to paint the breeze blocks black in 5:38 please? Is it safe once dried or does it need further treatment after being applied?
This does take some explaining to get it right, and the right liner is of course key. If you're in the UK and wanted advice then I'm more than happy to help - enquiries@wildyourgarden.com - best wishes, Joel
The sandstone water feature looks beautiful, and just like what I'm designing at the moment. What is the name for the stone channel that the waterfall comes through please? I've had no luck finding exactly that!
Hi there, sorry for the delay - they're known as "rills". This was made by a wholesale sandstone supplier, specifically for this pond design. Hopefully if you search "rills" you may be able to source one locally, or at least something similar :) Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, good luck! Best wishes, Joel
You're going to be water-circulating from the water tank down to the water tank? Or do you have a drain pipe that runs through the water tank up and down?
I know I'm late for the party but hopefully, you can help me out... At what depth did you put the plant shelf and what do you use to house the plants? Thank you!
@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton Can you achieve a slightly shallower pond without the blocks? Just with a liner. Researching building a shallow 16 x 10' reflecting pond. Very little information online. Any info/links would be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful 💚 the material housing the pump caught my eye, but it all goes together beautifully. Job well done 😎

So it's ok to build a block pier on to a liner that's really good can i ask what the black stuff is you are painting on the blocks and why.
Hi Jon, absolutely it is - it's just eco-friendly waterproof paint and it's used just so the blocks are less visible in the water, purely aesthetic :) best wishes, Joel
@@WildYourGardenWithJoelAshton Is the floor poured cement? Thank you
Hi, when cementing the blocks to the liner, did you have any issues, i would have thought the cement wouldn't adhere to the pind liner.
Thanks

A Schott it is a rubberised pond paint that is safe for animal life. Hope that helps 👍

You're going to be water-circulating from the water tank down to the water tank?
Or do you have a drain pipe that runs through the water tank up and down?
There is a pipe that pumps water from the lower pond up to the top pond. Hope that helps 😊👍
You want to know two things?
The water pipe was a lower tank. You connected it to the top of the stomach?
Thank you for your response
jhg102667 the water pipe is connected to the pump in the large pond, then pumped up the middle of the wall to the waterfall 😊👍

Awsome pond.but why don't you put some kois?they are better to these type of ponds.
