Ian Lawrie thanks Ian, I was in London a couple of weeks ago on my Big GS battling through the congested traffic, I was thinking then why aren't more people riding bikes like this?
KaiserWheelHelm In London people don't really bother to spend the extra cash on something like a Duke. They pick the automatic scooter, due to them being cheaper and, well, automatic. In a city, not having a manual bike is a lot easier, because you stop so many times.

Very good review on the KTM Duke 125! Good you mentioned your inside leg measurement as many of us vertically challenged riders wonder whether they can ride any KTM with confidence. Having been riding for 49 yrs I need to downsize for health reasons but want a fun, quality bike with good handling and ABS. The 125 Duke looks like it will fit the bill perfectly...
The 390 uses exactly the same frame as the 125 so if you are downsizing and didn't want to go quite as small as a 125 maybe take a look at the 390 duke.
@@KaiserWheelHelm the 390 is in fact my model of choice to be honest Kaiser and the 1st generation models fit me well. I'm currently considering a 2016 390 with 17k km on the clock as well as a mint 2020 125 with only 1.6k km. There have been significant improvements made to the 390 in the 2nd generation models and the advice I've received so far from experienced KTM owners is to buy the newest model I can. The newer 390s available here in Greece aren't easy to find second hand, go for silly prices and of course have a 3cm taller seat height and are some 10kg heavier too. As this may be my final bike purchase (number 22!) , a 2020 125 might be more suitible in the longer term with increasing health/ bone problems.
th-cam.com/video/oSdXXkpcipc/w-d-xo.html that's a video that compares the MT03 and the KTM 390, not exactly what you were looking for but still a very close comparison, hope that helps!
Hello! I’m only 5’4 , I have a lexmoto lxr 125 and it’s way too big for me so I’m having to sell it. Do you reckon this would be a good bike for me to ride. I struggled with moving the lexmoto because it was so heavy.

If You have a height of 70kg and a height of 170cm - and You want just to ride around the city, or neighborhoods - you'd enjoy it. For bigger guys, longer travel and to pass cars, You need 350...400ccm at least. If with passengers - more, 650ccm might start to be enough. I rode this duke for a whole day because I have only B category and practicing for A - I could do what I want and go everywhere, but the acceleration... it is fair, but not confident. I liked the stability and feel of a real motorbike on it because many 125 feel like mopeds, narrow, small, etc. I liked the look - I had a great time anyway. Reliable little friend.
I’m an older learner, would you recommend a 125 for a 30 something or go straight in with DAS and the A licence. I have no experience so would need to learn my craft but not sure if to do it on a CBT or the full licence.
In sweden you Can driva a 50cc bike at the age of 15 With a AM drivers licenses, a 125cc boka At the age of 16 with a A1 drivers license, a 400cc bike At the age of 18 with a A2 drivers license and a whatever bike At the age of 24 or if you have had the A2 license for two years so then 20 years old. And keep in mind you can only get a drivers license for a car at age 18 in Sweden so I know this is complicated but it’s cool that you can do it
got the 2017 version within a month had a battery issue(bad batch apparently) within 6 months had oil pressure sensor fault(apparently common fault in KTM bikes) but on balance love this bike superb 125 as my daily commute bike and in town runaround bike for long distance I use my 2014 VFR800F for my tours and long distance rides.
Just passed my CBT at 42, never ridden a bike before until then. Thinking of a 125 to practice on and get more confident at riding. Would you recommend this bike for that purpose.
Very hard for me to answer that because it depends so much on the individual...If you plan on doing your direct access course very soon I would save your money, pass your test and get the bike you plan to ride.. if you aren't going to ride a bike again for a while or just keeping a CBT licence then yes something like this would give you the skills you need for the future.
Dave Payne that was my dilemma, cbt and buy a 125 and the cost of one then to get bored with it or try the bigger bike. Think I had five lessons on the sv650 then did my mod 1&2 and thankfully passed both. Bought an sv650 in June and have never looked back. The bigger bike gave me more confidence than the 125, I’m still learning as I go and ride to my capabilities. Enjoy your bike.

Now then Peter that's really interesting.. first I've heard of anyone remapping one, keep me informed mate of any success, I'd be really interested what you get out of it.. say Hi to Lukasz for me 😀
Nice review, I'm 39 & seriously considering doing my CBT, basically just to save money on fuel, as 90% of the time it's only me driving in the car, I've narrowed the bikes down to this or the Honda cb125R, I love the look of both but probably edging towards the Honda, plus mpg seems to be better, around 110mpg, which would you recommend?
I'm 48 years old and have had everything from a sedate pan European to a fun fun fun R6. But I'm looking for a little commuter for a 40 mile round trip to work (half of it less that 40mph limits) I am torn between the MT125 Yam and this little beauty. Thanks so much for posting this. Makes a change to see a proper British video of these bikes.
I've got one of these it's a good bike handles really well will do over 65 mph. I get the odd false neutral the fuel gauge can change rapidly as your constantly revving it lots but Im getting about 80 mpg. And it looks amazing
Good good, its all important.. got to master the slow before you can hit the hard stuff. you definitely have a good bike to start on. good luck with the DAS
My friend has a 2017 duke 125 and wiyh him and me on the bike, absolutely smaahing the tank, as low as we could be on the bike, with a huge straightaway, we were kindda racing a r125, we got to 127 kph redlinning and we were pulling on the r125. The duke 125 is truelly a great bike that foes mlre than it is suposed to do.
I have 23 model love it but wish I got an older model these are restricted and the 24 is even more restricted you can tune them KTM will say you can’t literally most people that have or had KTM DUKE 125 will say you can’t, YOU CAN you need the right Pearson, when you look at the top speed it is not 65 MPH steady 75 MPH and can go 80 MPH, I will let you know when I have beaten my top speed 😂
I've got a 23 model aswell but mine struggles after 60 😢 going in at end of month for it's second service having it done alot sooner than needed as I bought it from an honda dealership with 750 miles on clock and they only changed oil so having the 4650 mile service done at just over 1500mile on clock also having an issue which is to be looked at it's recently started been very twitchy at higher end speed and round corners nearly had me off other week because it went all squirmy while going round a roundabout so there checking on that issue too
I love the looks and specs of it... I am looking at 125cc bikes that I will buy soon... Is would you recommend the bike? Also I am only 5’3 is that gonna be a worry? 🙈
Is there any other 125s that you would recommend for starters because I’ve been looking for dukes for a while but there seems to be none that i can find
I recently went to motorcycle live in Birmingham and fell in love with motorcycles! I'm a long term car driver, but keen to make a step into the two wheeled world. I've been told different things by different people, that I should just go to do the direct access after CBT in one hit (costly, and intensive!) I'm 34 but in no rush, I'd rather cut my teeth on a 125 for a year before the mod one and two.. ...but have been told not to spend too much on one and get an old ybz 125...lots of questions but what's yoir advice for a complete novice?! The bike I'd eventually like to graduate to is the yamaha mt07.... With an akrapovic! ❤
For you I'd agree to get a cheap 125 and use it as a means to an end.. As an already car driver you should know the rules of the road you just need to understand how a bike works which tbh won't take you long.. I would think you'd be ready to sell the 125 within a month of owning it just because you'd be ready to move up. I say this a lot to people but it does depend on the individual, some people aren't intimidated by bikes and take to it really quickly. Others shouldn't even be on a bike. A bit like car drivers only more extreme. Personally I got on a big bike as soon as i could and I never looked back, in your position I would have chosen the DAS route straight away but only because I had been riding and racing bikes from the age of nine... but for you as a complete novice It pays to get an understanding of how quick anything over 600cc is before you jump on one. So I'd say get a cheap 125 (so you can sell it for the money you paid for it) ride around yourself to learn about positioning and all the basic stuff on a cbt.. then get the das done as soon as you are ready (trust me it won't be long) Then get your MT07 and start to learn again how to ride a bigger bike. Everything changes even how you steer through corners on a big bike. You won't understand this now but on a big bike you turn right to go left and left to go right.. (you'll understand that one day). Good luck anyway with whatever you decide.
Hey Kaiser, Thanks for the video.. I'm thinking of buying a second hand 2018 model. it looks oks and drives perfectly. but has 10,000 km on it... would it be good idea to buy? or its too much? I would appreciate if you could advice on this
It's really hard to say. Some bikes have an easy 10k, some don't. Look at the owner, is it a kid without a clue?? Look at the chain to see if it's been maintained, if they haven't looked after the chain they probably haven't looked after the bike. Is it a genuine reason for selling. If everything looks ok 10k shouldn't be that much.
Great video, Kaiser. I'm a guy from Sweden and I'm currently taking my _A1_ license. I've been thinking of buying this bike when I'm done, but I gotta ask a few questions first. 1. What do you think is the minimum height and the max height for someone to sit comfortably on this bike? You said you were around _5'8_ in the video, I'm currently around _5'10_ but I'm still growing actually since I'm only 16. Anyway, I don't want my knees to hit the tank uncomfortably or be too short for it or anything. 2. Have you heard of the build quality problems people have had with this bike? Or at least the older models of it. I know they changed loads of things when they built the _2017_ model. So if the bike had any of those problems they must've fixed them then right? I'm unsure, so I'm just checking with you if you know anything. 3. How long have you had the bike for, and have you had any problems with it at all so far? Asking because of the build quality problems people have had I adressed ealier. Basically the bike would stop working, have leaks, certain parts would break and they would have to replace them, then something else would stop working. I've read about multiple cases of this on _Reddit_ and other places. 4. Are you happy with the bike and would you recommend it to someone who's getting it as a first vehicle and main transport option? Thanks in advance for any replies, and ride safe! :^)
you didn't see the video, he was only test riding.. as for height, i have the bike i'm 6"2 and it fits great, the 2018 model is way more comfortable for taller riders in opposition to the older models.
I watched the whole video, but I guess I didn't quite pick up he was only test riding. Oh well. Okay, so you're 6'2 and it fits great, that's great to hear that it fits taller people, but do you think it'll fit my height? (5'10) I'd prefer to be able to stand with my feet flat on the ground rather than on my tiptoes. Would you mind answering my other questions about the bike incase the video creator doesn't? (questions number 2, 3, and 4)? It'd be appreciated.
The new model doesn't seem to have any problems, it's been 5 months that i've been riding mine and it's been flawless, but in europe, atleast in my country, the warranty covers every single part of the bike instead of the warranty in usa and maybe somewhere else. You should be able to flat feet it, 2018 model has an 830mm seat height, i can flat feet with fairly bent knees, but while riding it's really comfortable. And yeah, i'm really happy with the bike, it's really comfortable, agile, and fast for a 125 too, it has alot of character and in my opinion is the best looking 125 bike u can get, (rival being mt125). i wouldn't swap it for any other 125 tho
zonny sorry I haven't replied before now, and thank you to the guy that did answer some questions for me. Yes it isn't my bike I was just test riding it. The quality issue I think is the same on all bikes these days. Manufacturers are having to save costs and unfortunately quality is sometimes affected. If I'm honest owners need to take better care and some responsibility for many of the problems they are having. I own a big BMW R1200GS which if I'm not careful will corrode if I left in the garage without washing and protecting it. It will be the same on expensive KTMs as long as you look after it the bike will look after you. Thanks for watching 😀
Hey man, I’m thinking of getting one this summer with my A1 but I got some questions. 1. How is it with headwind? 2. Is it tuneable to like 25hp? 3. Can I ride it on the highway even with headwind? (100+ km/h)
Answer is no.. these are designed to produce 14hp only, that's what makes it A1 compliant. If you fit any tuning part you won't be insured. If I were you I'd do your time on the bike until you can move up to the next class save your money because it will be easier to sell un modified to the next owner. I maxed out at 100kph on this bike I haven't seen one of these with 25hp unless you spend a lot of money.
@@KaiserWheelHelm haha, we'll see about that when I get this one first :P I'm not 18 yet and I don't know what the rules are like in the UK but in my country you have to be 21 to have a bike with more than 125cc

I'm running on 2 110cc moped and a 125cc which is a moped too.. And this Duke 125 is a bike that I wanted it so badly
I'm getting a 2020 ktm 125 Saturday looking forward to learning gears I had a 50cc moped for a year and a half
Great video 👍 what do you rate it compared to the Kawasaki z125 or ninja 125 ?
Had Suzuki gt 250 at the age of 17,did not take test relegated to a 125 now,got the hump.
Spot on pal. Nice vid very informative. “Having them all” 😂😂👍
LOL "that might be a 250, he might have me"
It feels so weird watching a video that starts near where I live. I go to Greenbridge literally almost every weekend.
Thanks, this helped out a lot as I’m looking to purchase this exact model 👌🏻
I'm 55 just bought brand new 20002 Duke sat in my van watching this video waiting for fawlers to email my reg and when it's ready
Would you get this or a MT125?
th-cam.com/video/oSdXXkpcipc/w-d-xo.html that's a video that compares the MT03 and the KTM 390, not exactly what you were looking for but still a very close comparison, hope that helps!
If you want a bit more zip outta the baby duke stick a 50 tooth sprocket on the back takes a bit off top end but it gets there a lot faster
I currently have a 50cc and I love it but when its my 16th bday I want one of thoose
dash cam is amazing quality and the sound brilliant
Definitely DAS, you will get bored very quickly on a 125.. just take your time and you'll be fine.
@@KaiserWheelHelm booking the DAS for when the schools reopen. Thank you.
Thanks mate, this video was really helpful.
Much would be the insurance on one of those at age 33 I'm sitting my cbt tomorrow and would love to own one of these
I’m thinking about buying one and I’m in Wiltshire to
In sweden you Can driva a 50cc bike at the age of 15 With a AM drivers licenses, a 125cc boka At the age of 16 with a A1 drivers license, a 400cc bike At the age of 18 with a A2 drivers license and a whatever bike At the age of 24 or if you have had the A2 license for two years so then 20 years old.
45 mate just passed my CBT and bought a sinnis RSX 125. Great bike but think I will now be looking at a KTM,
Dave Payne that was my dilemma, cbt and buy a 125 and the cost of one then to get bored with it or try the bigger bike. Think I had five lessons on the sv650 then did my mod 1&2 and thankfully passed both. Bought an sv650 in June and have never looked back. The bigger bike gave me more confidence than the 125, I’m still learning as I go and ride to my capabilities. Enjoy your bike.
This is in Swindon? So weird how I came across this
How is your sitting position on this bike. Because I'm looking for a good 125cc bike where I can sit a bit straight up. (Because of my back)
Seating is really relaxed
Man where are you driving in this video??? This place is like driving on forza horizon 4😂
swindon area, you can tell by the huge TK Max and WH Smiths and pirate-roundabout-trees-desert-island-thing - it's weird, but that's what makes it home i guess :)
We need this one. 🇵🇭
How about a review of the Sinnis Terrain 125
I had a 125 ATVs and there is a screw you loosen to let in more gas for more power
My DT125 was stolen and I was hoping to get it in road this summer, I’m thinking of getting one of these. How does it compare to a DT? Any idea? Appreciate it! X
If you've got the money probably buy one, any from the big Japanese manufacturers are great too, excellent even
I had made my Mind up on this bike from your review thanks!
cant wait to do my cbt and buy this when im 17
So at age 17 in the UK u can buy this?
Best 125
2nd best behind mt
nope, not even close
Hahaha ok
I have driven my 125 duke for 1year and its ok but could be better am the only one whit a 4 stroke friends have 2 strokes it dosent have power to keep upp its fun in corners but thats about it
@@vipe29oo Don't worry, you'll laugh at them when their bikes break down and you're still riding ;)
This bike is so good looking im gonna get it in less than 7 months
great video. easy to watch. i want my duke :) thanks
What would you choose between this KTM 125 or a Lexmoto LXS 125 ?
Looking to get my first bike, just done my CBT
Any recommendations?
Aprillia?
I think its a perfect bike for riding around town. Obviously not for the highway or racing. But fun as hell!
Personally, I think you can actually take it on a highway, but you shouldn't go really far tho.
Considering one for commuting...It looks way better than the Honda XR
In the process of buying a new duke 125 from blade Swindon right now .....I’m 44 and I just had to have one for £3199 OTR.....
They can be remapped btw .im a master mechanic and we’re going to see just how much we can sqeeze from the engine
Don’t worry about specific mpg figures ! They all are mega efficient compared to a car
I'm in the exactly same situation. What is your choice?
I'm 48 years old and have had everything from a sedate pan European to a fun fun fun R6.
But I'm looking for a little commuter for a 40 mile round trip to work (half of it less that 40mph limits)
I am torn between the MT125 Yam and this little beauty.
Thanks so much for posting this. Makes a change to see a proper British video of these bikes.
Dave Dickson I have the mt 125 and I’m very impressed with it very nice to ride and plenty of power even with 20 stone rider
Definetely the mt because of the better quality and reliability from Yamaha, a better sitting position and it conserves fuel better
I've got one of these it's a good bike handles really well will do over 65 mph. I get the odd false neutral the fuel gauge can change rapidly as your constantly revving it lots but Im getting about 80 mpg. And it looks amazing
Thank you Ian, best looking 125 out there I think... now go and get that knee down. you can do it ;0)
KaiserWheelHelm haha still learning doing my DAS next year gotta nail the slow speed manoeuvring still
Good good, its all important.. got to master the slow before you can hit the hard stuff. you definitely have a good bike to start on. good luck with the DAS
@@AlexRibwould you say it’s acceleration and speed keeps up with the r125?
God bless you brother your a good fella...
I've got a 23 model aswell but mine struggles after 60 😢 going in at end of month for it's second service having it done alot sooner than needed as I bought it from an honda dealership with 750 miles on clock and they only changed oil so having the 4650 mile service done at just over 1500mile on clock also having an issue which is to be looked at it's recently started been very twitchy at higher end speed and round corners nearly had me off other week because it went all squirmy while going round a roundabout so there checking on that issue too
Hi bro could tell me what should I buy yamaha MT 125 or 125 KTM Duke please let me know ??
I love the looks and specs of it... I am looking at 125cc bikes that I will buy soon... Is would you recommend the bike? Also I am only 5’3 is that gonna be a worry? 🙈
Isit too small for a 6'2 man? Thanks
Is there any other 125s that you would recommend for starters because I’ve been looking for dukes for a while but there seems to be none that i can find
Honda cbr125 is great, one of the best, any of yamahas 125's are great, aprilias an iconic 125 choice
Would you recommend this is as a beginner bike?
Yes, I think it would be a good bike to start on.
When was launched in India please tell me brother
Mate , Is it mini bike ?
Thank you so much for your advice! :)
Price of this bike? In my country the 250 duke gets same frame but no LeD lamp/TFT/ABS
Alright, good to know. Thanks for the reply
zonny sorry I haven't replied before now, and thank you to the guy that did answer some questions for me.
How tall are you? Im 192 cm (6,3) i think, do you think my knees will hit the tank?
THeHelmet mmm difficult to say. I think you would need to go and sit on one just to see how comfortable you are.. I'm 5'8 and found it about right.
Just got mine about 4 weeks ago can only do about 45mph untill it has its first service
Running in period.. always a pain
@@KaiserWheelHelm yeah its embarrasing trying to keep up with everyone else im only at 280 miles so fsr 🤣
@@KaiserWheelHelm Thx alot. Because I was actually hesitated between the 125 Duke, Mt-125 or the R-125

I weight 215lb and 5foot 11
Lovely bike, definitely thinking of buying this when I turn 18. Did you happen to test out what its max speed is?
Joe, 64 mph was all I could get out of this one absolutely flat out! Some have commented they get 70 but I wouldn't expect much more than that.
@@KaiserWheelHelm thanks for the fast reply. I guess that's enough for a beginner bike😅
@@joe4916 haha, you'll be surprised how quick you learn, you will be wanting a 1290 Superduke R before you know it 😉😂
@@KaiserWheelHelm haha, we'll see about that when I get this one first :P I'm not 18 yet and I don't know what the rules are like in the UK but in my country you have to be 21 to have a bike with more than 125cc
@@joe4916 We can ride a 125 from ages 17 to 19. At 19 we choose, either stay forever on a 125 or pass a full M/C test to ride a 45hp bike, then after two years on a 45hp (when you're 21) you can automatically ride anything "if you can afford the insurance" 😂 personally I think this is draconian, it's stopping young people from getting started on a bike.
Bikes are incredible Joe, I've met some amazing people and have been to some incredible places all because of bikes (it's the best club I've ever been in), always remember this though! (It's important you do) when you do get that 1290 SDR, as long as you give it respect and keep your head you'll be fine, but trust me, there isn't a better feeling when you're fighting the forces of nature on a bike like that... ✊🤣 good luck I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
Hollup your from England and you called it a taxi? I always learnt in school that taxi was american English and cab was UK english
Taxicab is UK English Taxi and cab have just abbreviated, I've always called a Taxi a Taxi personally. If I was in America I'd grab a cab.. I suppose the confusion is we have Black cabs and America has yellow Taxi's.. 🤷♂️
