I don't know if anyone else notices this but this is the only video that shows Paul playing Scarified with the camera focused directly at his hands the entire time. If anyone wants to see how Paul plays Scarified, this video is by far the best for practice and slowing down. I think the camera man deserves an award.
Yes but Paul really altered/slowed down the solo, so it's kind of disappointing and not very accurate. This 1987 video, although somewhat out-of-focus, seems to focus on PG and BB when they solo: th-cam.com/video/iOW_-OESnq0/w-d-xo.html
@@RecoveringReporter - That makes it easier to slow it down and see how he's actually playing it then. No point in seeing his fastest version filmed with a low quality camera that's 50 feet away. This version is a far better one to learn and practice, once you've mastered this song, then you can challenge yourself to see if you can keep up with the fastest version. Besides, you can always speed up this version and make far faster than the old live one.
+TruthSurge I can tilt my guitar any way - upside down, or inside out...I will never be able to to anything like that. My fingers are just not long enough :/
For all the little handed people doubting yourselves to play this song. Look up 11 year old Anton Oparin playing Scarified. If his "then" little boy fingers can play this song very accurately. So can you.
Funny thing thought, Paul himself says he doesn't play at 100% because if you need to speed up a little you won't have room, so he plays at around 80% to 85% potential just in case he has to step on the gas he'll have plenty of potential. I play at 100% all the time and it's still not good enough, Paul doesn't play at full potential and he's still at God tier level. I'm raging with envy.
GoSTeX - Fun | Gaming Exactly ! They are perfect ! Everbody is talking about his alternate picking, but I think I like him even more for his bends and vibratos!
Guess what happened in our guitar heads when we got this song on a record inside of Guitar Player magazine 1988/89. One of this guitar moments one lived through.
They do its true, don't get me wrong even people with below average/smaller hands can get just as good as this technically and even in general shredding/hand/picking speed, but I think its fair to state that those with large hands and very long fingers like Gilberts Pinky for example definitely have a legit advantage over others for sure, He still puts in just as much practice time as anyone, if not more!,but it's likely that he was able to do more complex patterns/movements/arpeggios etc quicker and more efficiently with greater speed earlier and quicker than say someone with little girly man hands could lol.
Excellent !!! His picking technic is always, for me, the best and so perfect....he can change sound by whanging just a little th picking attack angle to bruch or to cut...or falt...I m rellay scared by all the job during all these years....and to always see him so simple and cool.. Great musician and human being...
Has anyone noticed that whatever amp Paul plays through, whether its a Marshall, Laney, Boogie. He sounds exactly the same? He's playing through a Road King in this video. AMAZING!!! If thats not pure mastered technique then i don't know what is.
Damn 2007 days haha im just only 7 at that time i start play guitar at 11 years old i lately discovered paul Gilbert around 2015 2016 i guess in teen ager days
You should listen to PG talk about how he played for the first several years. Its hillarious how bad he said he was in the beginning. He must have had a very good teacher at University.
I remember reading this comment like 6 months ago, i didn't believe you and then i looked at a tab :L......its taken me 6 months but i can finally play it....sort of :P haha

Lol it may not be the original, but man I definitely would not call it disappointing. This one has more musicality to it IMO. @@RecoveringReporter
lol! "Not very accurate..."@@RecoveringReporter
I love Paul Gilbert. I love this song. I will learn this song, and then I will die.
Ravi Teja I just learned it and the hardest part is definitely that last string skipping arpeggio sequence. it's a bitch lol
do you pick everything? cant find proper tabs
kotdrauf no its legato. it'll be almost impossible to pick all of it haha
R.I.P.
Paul teaches the arpeggio outro section in this vid - th-cam.com/video/oKvIAuXMl7U/w-d-xo.html
There´s a German in the crowd, shouting: "SCARRRIFIED... YESSS, YESSS!"
i just know he sat in that crowd and watched in awe
3:04 haha when PG has to tilt the guitar up like that to get the reaches, what chance do mere mortals have???
+TruthSurge he actually learned to do it without having to do it anymore.
+TruthSurge I can tilt my guitar any way - upside down, or inside out...I will never be able to to anything like that. My fingers are just not long enough :/
+MrCorvusC yep. long fingers are better I think. So, do what you can and don't lose sleep over it.
I have fairly small fingers and I can do it don't doubt yourself! 👍
For all the little handed people doubting yourselves to play this song. Look up 11 year old Anton Oparin playing Scarified. If his "then" little boy fingers can play this song very accurately. So can you.
this is crazy...the rythym riff to this song could be a solo in itself
Yes even its already 15 year's still love it haha
''I'll do my best to play it with my ibanez guitar'' He nailed every part of it! xD
Funny thing thought, Paul himself says he doesn't play at 100% because if you need to speed up a little you won't have room, so he plays at around 80% to 85% potential just in case he has to step on the gas he'll have plenty of potential. Unbelievable playing. Gilbert is a God. And, my Lord, are his hands huge! Alien like fingers. 😳
Paul Gilbert is a true master and one of my favorite guitarist!
It's called Scarified because when you try to learn this song, all the shredding makes you shit your pants.
This Never gets old-LOL
He has put those blessed hands to use.what a perfect name for that song
Is that pinky a foot long?
I think he cloned his pinky and then had it attached to his real pinky to create a super pinky.
I heard he had face hugger legs graphed to his hands.
5 inch pinky
Well don't you guys know that Buckethead is Paul's student?
I do bro.
MrFDeath thanks, bro
I cant finish this video without picking up my guitar and playing this with him.
Paul Gilbert is unbelieavable!...he's the master!..Thank you Paul for sharing your talent!..We love you here in the Philippines!!!
He is the best!! i wish i could see him live!!
This is simply mindblowing…eternally
I love his vibratos. ^.^
GoSTeX - Fun | Gaming Exactly ! They are perfect ! Everbody is talking about his alternate picking, but I think I like him even more for his bends and vibratos!
this guy rocks! hes amazing at guitar
What's nuts is that his bassist matches him note for note at some places when he needs to.
Paul's fingers are our of this world!!
Great footage thanks:]
O.O that is one godly pinky!
Guess what happened in our guitar heads when we got this song on a record inside of Guitar Player magazine 1988/89. One of this guitar moments one lived through.
i've had an incredible pleasure seeing Paul live in Chicago during G3 tour.
Absolutely terrifying technique, makes me shiver!!
Yep, that's PURE skills!!!
i just love the way his fingers look when he plays fast! They look so cool
that pinky is out of this world
True master of guitar!
omfg the last bit from 3:04 . psycho hand movements and with the shadows from the fingers across the the fretboard it looks CRAZY. guitargod!
A great song to practice for those who want to become half as good as Paul Himself.
amazing!
Man this shit still blows my mind. I remember trying to learn this via this video when I was 15. Turning 30 this year, picking up where I left off!
My idol..the best playing guitar..

HIS HAND IS A TARANTULA!!!
Guitarrists born with pinky x-mutant gene such as PG surely have advantages :)
Rafael Vasco word up. His small finger is grossly large

I am scarified of this becoming a Guitar Hero track and never being able to finish it
Ouchhh.....so humble at the start and then breaks out with the shred....awesome!!!
ROCKING

Videos shot by guitarists are the best; what do we need to see his face for, 3 minutes of his hands will do just fine!
absolutely right : )
You bet your ass "WOW"! Unbelievable. Paul is THE BEST. Period.
Excellent !!! His picking technic is always, for me, the best and so perfect....he can change sound by whanging just a little th picking attack angle to bruch or to cut...or falt...I m rellay scared by all the job during all these years....and to always see him so simple and cool..
