The only thing that works for me is standing on my tip toes, hold it for 10 seconds, rest my foot for 5, and back on my tip toes, repeat for about 2 minutes. This combined with a warm bath before bed helps so much!

I suffered RLS for decades; A couple of month ago, I tried infrared light, the symptom was gone the first day I used it. Then one day my son broke the bulb, the symptom came back the second day; when my new bulb arrived a few days later, I was able to sleep again.

  • @tommcqueary7831
    @tommcqueary7831 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Try using a TENS 7000 or similar unit. At age 69, I have had restless legs for nearly three years now. My restless leg is usually the right one. I attach the 2 probes of the TENS 7000 unit to the left and right sides of my right leg calf muscle. I use burst mode which visibly pulses the calf muscle, using a setting of about 5. While the calf muscle is pulsing, I also massage the muscle with my fingers. After about 8 minutes of this I get lots of relief.
I agree with the natural approach instead of taking prescribed medications. Hope this works for you.

I’ve had restless leg syndrome off and on for years as well. This last two weeks it has been unbearable. Every night I am losing sleep and have become extremely tired and irritable from it. The absolute only thing I have found to stop it is getting out of bed and going through a long stretch routine focusing on my quads and hamstrings which leads me to believe it’s more of a circulation problem for me at night. I lift weights 5 days a week with 20 minutes of cardio though so I’m not sure how my circulation could be bad. My stress levels have been higher than normal though as well so I wonder if stress could be a factor as well. Until I find the ultimate cure the stretching will have to work for now. I usually do running stretches for about 20 seconds a piece until I feel in a more relaxed state and then I’m able to finally go to bed. Try it if your struggling to sleep as it does seem to temporarily work.

It is also a neurological issue. And is strongly linked, although not solid proof, of a hereditary component.
I started on Anti-depressants many years ago, which, I found out, after 10 years of running on 3 hrs sleep a night, 1 hr nap during the day, ( if I was lucky) can trigger it. They are bad! Take everything he mentioned and also strong meds at night.
I have found, over exercising or under exercising can trigger it. Stretching helps, but carefully, I have ripped or serverly strained muscles, tendons etc from overdoing it. ( I also have hyper-flexibility in most joints, so easy to over-do it.)
Often, as soon as u relax, that is the trigger for your legs to want to "party"!
Had it for 20+years, non stop. 🙄

I've been suffering from rls for years and I'm currently 8 months pregnant and it's been so much worse during this pregnancy. I've found that taking a magnesium anti stress drink every night before bed (you can find it on amazon) and a B complex vitamin in addition to my prenatal vitamin has helped take the edge off a lot. if you are low on iron taking an iron supplement could help too. I've also taken to doing exercises and stretches before taking a bath in Epson salts and DoTerra Deep Blue every night before bed. All these things combined have helped me a lot in my pregnancy. I think exercise is a big one for me. I've been trying to walk a lot everyday for the RLS.

You people with rsl, stop eating cheese. I have had two periods of rsl, first one I stoped eating cheese and was cured almost instantly, then second one, years later it came back, I forgot the trick and suffered for weeks. Then I ... guess what, stoped eating cheese, and again was cured. If this helps you, spread the message. Do it.

My RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME happened when I used to take a ALLERGEX tablet and a PANADO at the same time... I found that when I only treated one ailment (either the allergy or the headache) I didn't suffer... I now avoid taking those two tablets at the same time, or even a few hours apart... I can only use one, and I usually opt for the ALLERGEX as it also helps to relieve the headache because it dries out the sinus....

I have not yet tried the magnesium, but I have gotten great relief by taking a B Complex supplement. I take a B50 complex twice a day (to begin with) and then when the symptoms ease up, I cut back to taking the vitamin once a day. It usually takes about 3 weeks for it to really work. I also get numbness (tingling) in my big toe on both feet and the B Complex takes care of that too. I drink a lot of coffee and I'm guessing that wipes the B vitamins out of my body. I don't normally take any vitamins, but after a few bouts with RLS, I think I'll start taking it every day from now on. Anyway, good advice in this vid, and I will try some of the suggestions if the B vitamins no longer work for me.

Can this be a form of RLS. I had really severe cramps in my right foot for months, where my toes would bend back and I couldn't put them down...only at night when I was in bed. I broke my other foot when I missed my last step and came down on it wrong. I used one of those little scooter things to get around. I used my right foot to push with. I was amazed my cramps have been gone now for 4 months. But now my right foot (not the one that was broke) is waking me up with this weird sensation. I finally got up and looked at it at 4am this morning. Whoa! Right at my ankle my large veins right under the skin are moving and look like they are cramping....but I have no pain, no numbness, no discoloring. I do not have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I'm 10 lbs over weight at 61 yrs old. It's so hard to explain. It's not a jerking movement of the leg it's a movement in the veins in the ankle that look like when your muscle cramps. Wish I could send you a video.

I grew up in an Asian household. My mother would use MSG in everything... It was after her death that I noticed I had less attacks of RLS and I didn't really fully understand why until a few years ago I had read an article about the cause of RLS can be linked to the use of MSG. It made sense as I didn't use MSG in my own cooking... I would still get attacks but less frequently mostly when I would eat out and not know if things had MSG or use broth or other sauces that had a hidden amount of MSG. I would encourage people to do as Dr Axe recommends but also stay away from MSG.

I had this uncomfortable feeling in my legs at nights when I was ready to sleep for years. When I was using hot water , I would feel better. Now besides my legs, I have this feeling in my upper part of my body and causes a little bit dyspnea. Some times these feeling wakes me up. I had to take a hot bath maybe two times at night, so I get rid of this feeling. the doctors diagnosed it as RLS. If I have also in my upper body, is it still RLS?

Calcium tablets, according to a bone specialist i saw recently, ( dure to a badly broken ankle) are a big No-No! Because our bodies don't know how to process the artificial version, so most of it is deposited in our arteries etc. Leading to heart problems etc. Consume calcium the natural way. Our bodies know what to do with it.

    2. Folate/B9 (not folic acid)
    3. Chiropractor or acupressure, stretching & exercise
    4. Potassium rich foods
    5. Chamomile essential oil/chamomile tea

Within the field of organic chemistry, folate refers to the conjugate base of folic acid. this is what forms upon dissolution into water according to the pKa of folate compounds. Essentailly, folic acid is the disolved form of folate.... its the same thing. but yes there is usually a boost in bioavailability and bioactivity of different vitamins when consumed in foods vs supplements; however, there is also a decrease in bioavailability when they are consumed from some forms of leafy greens or nuts. look up antinutrients. imo unless you have a degree in chemistry, the difference between folic acid and folate are over your head.

My restless leg syndrome was so bad I wanted to cut off my arms and legs until I heard about the combination "calcium and magnesium" supplements. I've been in perfect balance ever since!! I can't believe it and no one else can either, especially that I now take only 1 tablet a week and still no RLS!! I hope this works for everyone cos RLS is a total nightmare. Good luck!

PLMD and RLS are not from restless mind. Its when you mind is most ready to go under, that RLS kicks in and convulses you out of the sleep you almost got into. It’s like a battery building up charge until it goes off.

jon kaminetzky lots of reasons, why not try other methods? Like... I'd rather try chamomile tea or certain foods that's a fraction of the cost as Calm® magnesium and is known to have more than one positive impact on the body.

If your RLS is due to iron deficiency, taking magnesium with your meals will exacerbate the issue as it competes with iron for absorption.

Ah, so that's why my RLS eased right off when I was having a cup of creamy home-made almond milk a day and bread made on almond flour! Magnesium. I'm so over being woken by a twitching/jerking leg that just won't stop till I've gotten up and paced the length of the house several times. A bar of soap under the sheets helps to take the edge off -- no idea why.
