Tennessee Whiskey - easy strum lesson in 6/8

  • A basic lesson on Chris Stapleton's version of "Tennessee Whiskey". This is not a performance or meant to be a note-for-note transcription, but an introduction to how to play the groove of the song.
If you struggle with barre chords, skip ahead to 10:25 for a capo version.
Part 2 looks at the song's easy electric guitar intro.

Five and half years ago, I started taking guitar lessons at the age of 58. I began playing a Squire acoustic that I thought sounded pretty good, at least it got me moving forward. I now have a collection of seven acoustics,4 Gibson and 3 Martin, a Telecaster, and Ibenez ES 335 copy and a Fender acoustic/electric bass. There is an advantage to taking up an instrument when you're no longer a starving student ;-)

You are the best teacher on TH-cam I'm fifty years old and just picked up the guitar again and your just showing the best way to get a hold of the song you're teaching hope that the other people are realizing that

You are an EXCELLENT teacher. I'm a tiny bit ashamed to say that I am only now discovering you. :(
In the thousands of hours of guitar videos I have watched, not once has anyone demonstrated the D embellishment of the A. Sweet!
Thanks so much for your lessons. I can't wait to binge-watch your channel!

Then I realised I was learning about time signatures and LEARNING!! guitar was tuned and you seem to have a metronome in your foot!
Seriously surprised and seriously grateful for the non ego lesson! Thank you sir!

Great lesson, Dave. I’m also loving the old Guild with mahogany top. I picked up a 1971 last year - really beat up, with repaired headstock, poor neck angle (low saddle and action a bit high), hole in the side from an old pickup installation, plus many other bangs and dings. All of that said, it plays and sounds just great and no worries about taking it camping!

Does the A/D embellishment begin on the two count or on the four count of the 6/8 time, and does the embellishment hold for two beets or for three beets?
Overall, this is a great, very helpful, lesson, but that segment is a little bit unclear to me - which is more a reflection of me rather than you, as you’ve explained this lesson much better than any other TH-cam lesson of this song

This great, I am trying to learn guitar, i find this tuturial is great . I Try to understand the tempo , you have 6 beats , but when I we read portion tempos of 77 , it 77 beat per minute , so you 6 beat elapse time will be 60/77 * 6 seconds ? is this right? sorry I am new to music.
