- Saturday June 3rd, 2017, I was able to catch the Amtrak Coast Starlight 6 times between Lompoc & Los Angeles.

Really nice chasing going on in this video. I wasn't a fan of these new locos. Maybe it's the paint scheme. I don't know. But I like this video clip. Cool private car catch.
Prepare yourself to say goodbye to the GE Genesis, but (luckily) not in the near future. And yes, Siemens may build a dual-mode SC-44 in order for Amtrak and Metro-North Railroad to replace their Genesis IIs and for Long Island Railroad to replace their DM30ACs and DE30ACs.

It will be sad once the F59's and P42's get replaced next Autumn on the Surfliner!

Why did the train stop on the crossings in Los Angeles?
Zack and Zane change tracks that go into union statiom I believe.
Zack and Zane Train was too long for the platform, and used a different track.
Stopped to pick up a Pilot crew which was waiting at Mission Tower. Because of the train's length it had to be wyed and backed into the station in order for all the passenger equipment to fit on the platform (Locomotives were hanging out into the plant at CP Terminal, rather than passenger cars). The crew bringing the train down is based out of San Luis Obispo and is not qualified beyond the Diamonds at Mission Tower, hence the need for a pilot crew to wye the train.

What's with all that extra power up front? Were those locomotives getting ferried back to base? That's usually how it goes with freight trains.
The two Siemens motors (In the middle of the power) are brand new / freshly delivered, and being ferried dead to wherever they need to go (but eventually to Chicago). The two lead locomotives are their "escort", and the two trailing locomotives were the power for the train.

Metro link already has a few of the Siemens SC-44's in their fleet, I seen about 4 of them from the Pacific Surfliner train I rode back to San Diego on 5/27/2017. I like the P42's that Amtrak uses, ViaRail in Canada uses some P42's in their fleet.
