    Wicked. That was exactly the video I’ve been looking for since the Vintera II’s came out. Once again, WCM smashes it.

    I recently bought the 40th Anniversary (gold version, because that Lake Placid blue) and what a steal. I've been using it on literally everything, and your video was the one that sold me on it so it's good to see it revisited here. Man, those Vintera II pickups though... Such clarity and bite! I may have to start saving. Keep up the great work!

    As someone that favors function over form the Squier has 2 big advantages, 1. the truss rod can be adjusted without removing the neck and 2. you don’t have to worry about the saddles falling down over time because of vibrations.

      @rsuazon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Another thing I prefer on the Squier is the satin neck finish over the gloss on the Vintera II. I really like how both guitars sound but have to give the edge to the Vintera II's pickups. In the end it will come down to which specs you prefer and if it is worth the extra dough for the Vintera II. I have the Squier 40th but if I ever see a deal on a new or used Vintera II, I would definitely have to think hard about owning both like Jason suggested :)

    If they're whacking out the Squier cheap, and it's satin, and Chris Buck has been touring with one bone stock....hard to argue against it.

    Still love my 40th Jazzmaster. Did change the pickups and pots and it sounds just as good as the fender plays and feels great. Probably never going to sell. May one day down the line replace the neck with one of those new roasted maple necks even than I gotta break it to replace. And it has happened multiple times in bands I’ve been in.

    I've been seeing more videos similar to this, trying to justify the JM V2 when the 40th anniversary is so good. But that's the thing... if that 40th wasn't so damn good, the V2 would be miles ahead as it is seriously impressive. I haven't seen any of the 40ths around here for 300, but man, I'd jump on that despite having just recently bought an AMPro2 JM.
    Great video folks.

    Hello from Sydney Australia.
    Cool video. Liked the rosewood on the clean demo, whilst both jazzmasters had their own unique sounds on the dirt demo.
    I first saw your show when you both and Mike were demoing the Fender Vintage II 1966 Jazzmaster. By all accounts Fender had a bad patch then. What needed to be said was said. Fender changed the headstock. A good step forward by Fender. Then I had a close look at their Vintage II 1966 Jazzmaster with the new headstock and noticed that the new photo on Fender's website had the e string not on the fretboard. Its still being displayed as such. Is the bridge misaligned; a cnc issue? Possibly.
    I was hoping that Fender would get it together. Looking around on Reverb and other guitar shops, still a problem. Then Sweetwater started getting in examples of good guitars. They provide 4 guitar photo comparisons to start with, and most of them have the bridges lining up spot on with even string spacing. Excellent.
    Thanks to your reviews, Mike and 60 Cycle Hum I'm not left being ignorant and oblivious. Now with QC up I'm confident to inquire about the Vintage II 1966 JM, and another model from the Vintage II line.
    Definitely the Jazzmaster and Competition Mustangs from the Vintera II range look vintage accurate. The QC is excellent. They also have their own sounds that are nice. So that's five guitars now on the chart.
    I'm still on the fence with the Vintera II Jaguar and Bass VI.
    There's not a lot of demo's on the Jag, and it doesn't have a bridge mute on it. Without the mute is like having a book and you find that it's missing a few chapters. The Bass VI has the correct size bridge for intonation, has that Cure sound, however Fender for some reason doesn't have a mute that fits the correct bridge. Also Fender is yet to supply Sweetwater with Bass VI cases, nevertheless the Bass VI model is one of Fenders best selling guitars.
    There's a gap in Fender's lineup for a Vintage II 1962 inspired Jaguar with vintage correct appointments, for example like a slab board and bridge mute.
    The new Vintera II Bass VI is like the first iteration of the Bass VI, yet it has the claw Jaguar pickups, minus the mute. It would be great to see a Vintage II 1962 slab board, claw Jaguar pickups, with the string mute and intonable bridge Bass VI. I think these two new offerings would be good selling guitars for Fender.
    I like both the desert sand and sonic blue Vintera II JM.
    Lets hope Sweetwater sends you over the Vintera II Jaguar, Competition Mustang and Bass VI for you both to demo!
    Have you seen the sparkle sonic blue with matching headstock and gold pickguard from the CME spec JM?
    You might like that version of Sonic Blue and gold pickguard.
    Thanks

    I preferred the warmer tones on the squire over the fender. I found the fender a bit too bright for my ears in the first instance. During the radiohead riff I found myself leaning a bit more towards the fender. I guess in a perfect world I’d take the squire and and just swap out the bridge pickup if going just by this video. I do have the 40th anniversary squire in green and it’s absolutely my favorite guitar now. Great video guys love the comparison!

    Why does Fender gotta pull this shit? Just let the Squier live! I bought both colors of the 40th vintage jazzmaster and just repainted the seafoam body in a yellowish green metal flake using lil daddy roth's spraypaint kit (which came out beyond my dreams, the 2 part clear coat is the key). Both Squiers are fantastic quality all around and I do all my own setups. The maple necks on both are fantastic, no sharp frets, super smooth and with awesome neck angles so no need to shim. Is the Fender shimmed or compensated for the break angle?

    @elmud 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I own both, I must say the Squier is the best for me... even though the pickups are a bit more "compressed" and modern sounding they don't have that awful thin strat sound the Vintera II has. Plus, Vintera comes at 1200 €/Dollars and has a totally unusable tone pot (does nothing until at 3 then muffles everything). Has the "period correct" neck pocket which has the very well known problem with the neck angle... you'll get high action even with the bridge all sunk down and that's another problem because of the "period correct" bridge: with those threaded saddles you'll have strings snapping out every time... the Squier has the Mustang bridge and the neck has a different angle to prevent all of those structural Jazzmaster's problems. This is unbelievable...

    Where are you coming up with these appreciation prices.
    Are you just looking at what people are asking second hand?
    Or confirmed sales?
    The guitar market is crashing because they aren't selling.
    Guitars of all makes are at this point a dime a dozen.

    • @WorkingClassMusic

      That's a fair question.
      3/4 of WCM have worked in music gear retail for a long time, and have a qualified understanding of the market to justify the prices mentioned.

    • @gregmacklin9758
      @gregmacklin9758 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @WorkingClassMusic
      I respectfully disagree, and that's OK.
      The evidence as of over a year ago to the peasant times suggests otherwise.
      For example, Guild Guitar Co. Is running a discount on brand new Surfliner HH series guitars for half of what Sweetwater and evan used ones are going for. And that's not the only brand doing that.
      I would agree that Squires are a decent guitar, but you know it's still a budget guitar. Not only would you have to be a fool to pay full price for a brand new one in this economy, but one would be completely stupid to pay 10 times more for one that's second hand.
      Evan, some of the truly rare budget guitars no longer being produced from the 70s don't sell for 10 X original price.
      Are they cool and nostalgic ? Sure.
      But evan a collector would hesitate to pay much for an antique budget instrument.
