I bought iPad Pro a month ago and the last time i opened my laptop was only to transfer some files into my iPad ! Its totally awesome

I have both, plus the Macbook Pro and I must admit that despite many snickering comments, the 12 inch Macbook has been my favorite and most used device. I love how light and portable it is, and unlike the iPad, it balances well on my lap and I dont need to hold it up with my hand. I use it for watching videos, often have more than 15 tabs open, and word editing. Its super quiet and has never lagged on me. Unless I need heavy photo or video editing, Id go with my Macbook everytime. The size of the screen has never been a problem for me. I never noticed a significant difference between watching movies on the Macbook and the Pro. The iPad is just a great gaming device on the go for me, but I certainly wouldnt replace my computers with it. The iPad is to me what a toaster oven is - neither a great toaster, nor a great oven, but semi gets the job done while offering portability.

I had an iPad Pro for a week and send it back. The screen is awesome but for reading it is too large and clunky. Also when I wanted to import images using the adapter it wouldn't work without putting the lightning cable into the adapter, then wouldn't let me transfer my files on the iPad. Then Word got way less functions on the iPad, Photoshop as well. The Keyboard offers only one angle and is STILL only available in US layout (160€ for an US Type Cover in Germany...).
The iPad is cool for videos or games. For everything else, especially SERIOUS work, go get a MacBook. I'll get one plus the 9.7 iPad Pro (for games, comics, books and couch gadget). Just my 2 cents.

Have a Macbook Pro and can't complain. IPad I got an Air2, just didn't see enough pluses to spend over 300€ more for a Pro (plus another 100€ for the pencil). I rather type notes on my Macbook.

claus van how is her statement ignorant? You didn't counter any of what she said...
As a main device, the iPad with ios is limited. You need to do more on an iPad to even try to do the same things.
For a basic user, maybe you could get away with an iPad, but as I stated IOS... Meh.

11:11 Maybe I'm mistaken but didn't Apple make it so if you force touch the keyboard on the iPhone 6s it turns it into a trackpad? I mean if so, then clearly they've already built trackpad functionality into iOS.

+MobileTechReview Allot of money for one port and a core M. BTW, the second gen won't be much better.. its a core M too (skylake and clocked slightly higher) It may get a bit better battery life
HP will have a thinner one this this and still put a i7 Spectre.. I hope you can review that device when it comes out. HP shows us that you can make really thin devices and still innovate cooling systems so they can run a i7. Suppose to get decent battery life as well.

    • @HiPlains1

Multiple instance of Numbers or Pages doesn't "get to be challenging" on iOS as you say. It's simply not possible. You simply can't have two documents open at once.

Great video! In my opinion the Pro makes sense for a student. I'm pretty anti-Apple in general, but when it comes to the Pro I can't think of anything better for note taking and media consumption. Great speakers, display, battery life, and app store make this thing incredibly useful. I had the Note Pro before but the lag was enough to make it nearly impossible to use as a laptop replacement. The iPad is fast, convenient, and easy as hell to use. Best tablet I've owned so far!

Hey . I would like your opinion on this . I own an 2nd gen iPad mini and a 2011 MacBook Air. They both run just fine, but they could improve a lot .
I am a college student, and I love reading on my iPad . I use the MacBook for note taking and some office stuff. What do you recommend ? I could sell both and buy an iPad Pro 12.9 , buy the latest MacBook Air, I don't know . The mini is getting laggy sometimes and the MacBook needs more battery time . Thanks !

Apple is big on Thunderbolt, so it would be odd if it is omitted on the MacBook 2016.

The single angle keyboard really still baffles me, after Microsoft was raked over the coals for it in the first Surface, and then made a 3 position and infinite position stand for them eventually.
I'm also thinking, I'm typing this right now with my mbp propped up against my knees with my belly up in bed, could never do that with the iPad Pro keyboard. Clamshell laptops still make so much sense form factor wise.

Recommending Cintiqs instead of iPad Pro for digital painting? That is only if your a 3D artist. For digital painting the Cintiqs are way behind the iPad Pro (including the Studio Pro). For paper like precision and feel, the iPad Pro w/ProCreate is still the king of the hill.
Felt the need to point this out as it may confuse buyers.

The iPad and IOS have come a long way since this video was made. I’m a graphic designer and I use my 2015 iPad Pro to design and prep my files for output. Affinity Designer and Photo along with a few other apps easily fill the gaps with no problems what so ever. Love my iPad Pro over any of my MacBook Pros, I have a 15” and a 13”; they seldom see action due to my iPad Pro and the awesome apps brought to the iOS platform.

Mahmoud Madkour iPad would be fine 99 percent of the time for what you need. If you can use your work computer for the other 1 percent you will be fine. An example of that 1% would be when I was trying to get a tire rebate, the website would not work on my iPad. In this case you would need to use your work PC during your lunch break.
The benefit to the iPad is it is almost virus proof!

Decent point about multitasking on these small screens. That's why I feel like the Macbook is capable of most tasks, since you can only do one at a time! Still works well, though.

  • @Haksdo2
    @Haksdo2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

With both of these devices I keep thinking: you should buy something else. If you want a laptop/ultrabook for basic stuff, something like the Asus UX305 does the same (and has more ports) but costs half. If you want to do things like drawing and such, get a device like the Surface Pro 4 or Huawei Matebook. They both can do the same as these 2 devices combined.

+Haksdo2 Unless you need to use iOS and macOS... I have a windows 10 tablet and the apps are crap. And if you're programming for the Apple ecosystem, you need to be using the proper tool for the job.

+Crimson Koba Well if you must use OSX it will probably work but the core M will still be a compromise to a i7. Just a heads up, HP has a really killer looking ultrabook coming out next month called the spectre. 2.4 lbs 13.3 inches and thinner then the mac book. Really nice front firing Bang Olufsen speakers and a i5 and i7 skylake options with THREE usb c in back instead of the single one in the MB. Aluminum top and carbon fiber bottom. They are saying about 9 hours battery life. I know some people won't consider a windows machine but this has allot of new innovation like the hyberbaric cooling. Its how they got it so thin with having faster processors.. Also using a large sheet battery which is innovative as well. There are a few vids on YT on it.

+HiPlains1 some of us are happy with core M as that is all we need! I don't do anything that needs that sort of power. The old days the low power cores would mean a slower experience but these days the core M is just as fast to open apps and do normal stuff like Office, email and web. The advantage is better battery life and that sells it for me as I am on the road all day. Unfortunately second hand prices of the MacBook are still 80% of gross retail cost so it may be a long wait for a cheaper version in the UK, which is usual for Apple products. I bought a HP 820 with an i7, 8gb RAM, LTE, SSD, backlit, fingerprint, full spec for $375 and it was new from a reseller. It was overkill and under used but it shows how bad Windows laptop sales are going when there are deals like that (down another 10% the last quarter) where as Mac laptops continue to grow.

    what about affinityphoto?

  • @StefanUrkel
    @StefanUrkel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Affinity Photo I hear is pretty good on iOS. BTW good review. Covers just about everything I wanted to know in such a comparison. Actually, as Mac OS and iOS increasingly converge, it's not so strange to compare the two (laptop vs tablet), especially since the A10X and A11 Bionic processors now essentially have desktop class processing power. I agree with all of the pros and cons. Another thought: would a MacBook 12 + iPad 12.9 + cheap iPhone 5s/SE combo be a better overall buy and experience to cover all bases vs a single MacBook Pro 15 for the same price? Or vs an iPhone X and a MacBook 12 combo.

+mobiletechreviews, always enjoy rewatching your videos. Even these 'smackdowns' remain relevant. I did want to ask a question though. Do you think iOS (as os and app platform) for the iPad Pro 12.9 has improved enough over the year to justify choosing that over the Macbook?
I've seen some well-received apps like Luma Fusion and Lightroom pass by that make me think editing is quite OK on the iPad Pro. I have no pedigree in editing of any kind, so I don't quite care so much about the features I'll have to 'miss' like proper pro's that would have to change their current workflows.
I want to use it for creating enticing video for online courses to put the extra effort into my grad school teaching duties. So, just lectures, but more of the fast-pace type you find on Crash Course -excluding the motion graphics. A bit more editing intensive than just hitting the record button and paste in some slides, but not much... I think. (I'm a serious noob to this.)
What do you think? iPad Pro 12.9 or stick with a more traditional MacBook; or do I have to break the bank and go for a MacBook Pro?

Hmmmm...This is a tough decision. The iPad pro screen is BIG and still light, but with the cost of accessories it brings the price to be about the same as the 12 inch macbook, plus there is no trackpad. On the other hand, the macbook is a full pc but the screen is so small. if it was 12.5 inches as opposed to 12 i would be sold. I am waiting until the next iPad pro comes out this June before I make my final decision.

I got the original 12.9 IPad Pro. A few weeks ago I snapped up a BH Photo flash deal on a mid 2017 MacBook 12. $ 999 for 512 GB, 1.3 processor.
I like the Mac 12 much better. The IPad Pro is too heavy to hold, unlike the Air.
Too often, I have to go from the IPad to the MacAir or now this MacBook 12. The OS system is much better than the OSI system.
Rarely use my 12.9 now. Still use my Air.

For video editing you mentioned iMovie. I'd like to recommend LumaFusion for those who do take that more seriously & would like to work with the iPad. Overall very professional review. I enjoyed watching it. Thank-you for this comparison. :)

Did you know the iPad can actually tell if your pressing soft or hard, but only those. In garage band pressing hard plays it louder. Either app devs can’t use it, or they don’t know. We have something useful here

iPad Pro is far more productive than this Macbook when it comes getting real work done IMO.
    1. iPad is more powerful.
    2. Can run all the apps like a dream.
    3. There is no good quality apps for desktop that Macbook or any low-end laptop can run without lag and headache.
I would not get either as my main machine but would get iPad pro as the secondary machine.

Stop using geekbench to compare between different architectures! Anandtech already did an indepth performance comparison between the A9X and Core M , their results were that the A9X is competitive in certain workloads with a midrange broadwell Core M, but completely beaten by a top tier Core M, in respect to Skylake Core M, it loses to the low-end Core m3.

    • @ChangizKB
      @ChangizKB 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+HoveringAboveMyself I am not comparing the geekbench score at all. I am talking about the apps that iOS supports for which iPad Pro is overkill and extremely powerful, and you can do a lot more much faster. The MacBook on the other hand is not the fastest and doesn't run all the desktop software like you would like. Just take my example. I make fun videos sometimes, and I am a photography enthusiast. I don't need the the most powerful software for what I do, but I need a software that does the basics the fastest. iMovie is so freaking fast on iPad Pro that 4K videos render faster than 1080p on MacBook.

    • @HoveringAboveMyself

Changiz K Baluch Oh I definitely agree with that, the A9X is very powerful for iOS software.

iOS is still the biggest drawback of the iPad Pro. It's still merely a mobile phone OS slightly modified to work a tad better on a larger screen. Hopefully iOS 10 makes it more of a powerful OS for larger-screened devices. Until then, it's far more practical to just get a traditional laptop for a no-compromise experience.

I use 'Filebrowser' business for my centralized file storage on my iPad Pro.
has Wifi sync, dropbox, cloud, native music/video player and can share out to other apps.
I plan on getting a Sandisk WiFi USB so as to copy files to and from a PC to the iPad Pro when I am at work.
