@@marcdaniels9079 so do I! But for example, I have a green citizen endeavor with a similar look to the one reviewed here. Got it as a gift! Loved it until I realized citizen didn’t attach a regular bracelet, and the lugs were a strange size. The watch requires a ~20mm (theirs is tapered from ~24) with a 14mm male or female cutout. My daily work watch is a Citizen Promaster NY0040 and despite owning lots of watches, it always makes it on holiday with me as my swimming watch too. It’s fantastic in every way. It was pretty much my first venture into mechanical watches and it will never be sold. I’ve never picked up another Citizen since, but that’s through no fault of Citizen’s.
When is was doing my military service i saw someone wearing a NY40. I said when i get my first job i will buy that. After service went abroad to study. While studying was working as a waiter/ barman for extra income. First paycheck came and as i was leaving the boss office to go home passed by a jewellers shop. And i saw the NY40. Went straight in and bought it for 150£. I am still wearing that after 26 years. No service. Same silicon strap. Endless hours under Greek scorching sun. 26 summers swimming with that thing @sea. Only damage some scratches on the mineral glass by my daughter when she was 3. She was sweeping the tiles with it. She liked the lume so much that every night had to used that to get asleep.... This NY40 is masterclass. 150£ full of memories.....
I was not impressed with Citizen until I got a Eco-Drive Promaster Diver this year. It avoids all the problems you found in the one you reviewed. Mine is steel, blue dial, date only, crown at 4:00, orange hour hand, no pants at 12 and an excellent rubber strap. I paid $123 for it - factory refurbished, it has been perfect. Citizen does solar really well. I've swam in the ocean with it and banged it up a few times, and it has not a scratch on it. Great watch.
Great choice on the Citizen. I recently purchased a Citizen Eco Drive Promaster BNO168-06L and I really like it. I’m thinking of replacing the rubber strap with something more comfortable. Have a great day!
The NY series Pro-masters are classics and probably one of the best watches Citizen has ever produced. I had the full lume version a few years back which got discontinued for a while. I made a significant profit on that watch when I sold it but always regretted letting it go. Thankfully they reissued it with the 8204 movement so I bought it again. The pants thing doesn't bother me in the slightest and mineral is arguably better on a diver. This is a proper tool watch with a great design that's aged very well.
I’ve owned the Citizen Paradigm titanium watch for 12 years and have never managed to scratch it despite some rough wear (ie. canoe trips), but it has a stainless steel clasp that shows scuffs. Your clasp could be steel.
As a Seiko-guy as well and owning a Promaster Eco-Drive (crown on the right side) I have to admit that my absolute favorite chronograph is the Citizen Brycen panda dial CA-7090-87A. An impressive Super-Titanium and saphire crystal thing that weighs near to nothing and looks absolutely incredible. Just like Seiko's Speedtimer but made from titanium and at half the price.
It's tricky as years ago Citizen and Seiko were basically copies of each other and almost the same price. Then Seiko went for the up-market despite actual quality not really changing. Citizen - kind of stayed the same. Styling, yes, Seiko is obviously hiring better talent there. But as a watch? Not sure if Seiko is worth the extra money at this point if I just want a tool to tell time that's going to get dings and scratches from daily wear. My dress watch - yes, it's Swiss.. lol... but it's not my daily wearer, either.
Really appreciate your watch reviews. Having said that i am a big fan of Citizen watches and , my friend that crown is on the left because Citizen is one of the VERY FEW that make watches for left handed people! Lol! All the best!
I've owned both Seiko and Citizen and, don't ask me why and shoot me down in flames if you don't agree, but I've always preferred Citizen more than Seiko. No difference in quality and Seiko's, whilst excellent watches, are mostly a bit too blingy for me with those horrible scratch magnet chrome polished case backs.
ny0040 is the way to go. Military watch history plus decades of production. It's ugly but in a good way and the tractor movement is more precise than all of my 6Rs.
Agreed. However, all the models are not on the UK Citizen website. You can import - but customs + VAT (?)... Some say it hasn't been discontinued ( why put the hacking 8304 inside it a couple of years ago?) but it's all a bit fishy.
Yep! My lume dial with an 8204 has been regulated by me to within 1 sec per day and stays there day after day. I had a 6R Willard that I loved but the thing ran all over the place! Also, everything lines up on the NY at
I bought one of the black Fugus years ago to complement my SKX009 because I like the dial better than of the classic NY0040. I wanted to give it a try because it was the service watch of the Italian marine. I like both of them because each one has its own way and both matter as affordable diver icons. 👍
You got the wrong promaster. Get the one I just purchased to solve all your issues, asides for the mineral crystal: The Promaster Unite with Blue. No more underpants, no day complication, no left hand crown, thinner watch, stainless steel, no clashing red hand, no miyota 8000 series movement and did I mention the best dial EVER? Citizen is famous for their solar technology in the eco-drive, stick with what they do best. What I want for this watch? AR sapphire crystal and a stainless steel bracelet.
My first Citizen watch was an Aqualand I bought in the 80's and I loved it! CItizen was the brand I started off with and their eco-drive quartzes are excellent. I had an eco-drive diver but sold it and got the NY-0080. I think Citizen might be filling the affordable watch void Seiko left behind.
You should check out the Promaster Diver Eco Drive BN0150-2BE. Orange min hand trim, crown on the correct side, stainless steel case, never needs winding (not a fan of mech watches - they keep stopping if left in a drawer.) Imo dive watches should have rubber straps anyway.
My Citizen EcoDrive GMT fieldy/flieger is about 12yrs old. Mineral glass chipped slightly at the raised edge. In honesty for about $150 its hard to beat despite the poor lume 100m, never needed opening and the EcoDrive is incredible. It normally lived unworn for weeks or months in a daylight position (bed headboard) but got misplaced in a dark cupboard for months until dead... a couple of days in bright sunlight got it back from the grave and its a solid runner again. oh and the $150 EcoDrive my wife picked while her $1500 Ebel was getting a $150 service (its quartz too !) has pretty much displaced the Ebel.
It’s a bit sad that an expensive Swiss quartz needs a service, while a cheap Japanese solar quartz watch just keeps on ticking… Swiss watches are overrated.
I really want to get into Citizen. I added an Eco Drive GMT to my collection earlier this year and it’s a great watch but it’s not very exciting. I totally agree on your thoughts about titanium. I like feeling a bit of reassuring weight on my wrist so the lightness of titanium really puts me off before we even think about how easily it picks up scratches. Awesome show as always MWC!
I'm wearing a Citizen BJ7111 titanium diver right now. It's a terrific watch. I've got three Citizen divers; they are great values for the money. On par with my Seikos.
Seiko has the classic name and models - Willard, 62 Mas, Turtle, but Citizen does just about everything better and more affordable. I like both brands.
My favorite watch is the Citizen Blue Angels World Chronograph A-T. My wife gave it to me for our 10-year anniversary... 10 years ago. All stainless, 200M WR, SAPPHIRE crystal, solar AND atomic. This watch has never let me down. Perfect time and the sapphire crystal has ZERO scratches after 10 years. This is a very tough watch. A few wear scratches on the band clasp, but I alternate with the blue leather band (the yellow underside is a great detail) that was also used for this watch. Just lovely and it makes me happy.
As a fan of both Citizen and Seiko, I have to say that Seiko still seems to carry the superior name, but in terms of build and QC, Citizen definitely leads the way in the market. There’s definitely much to admire dear citizen. Did you see what I did there? Click the like, it definitely helps my opinion. Haha. Thank youuuu!😉 Cheers for another excellent episode, I always enjoy your schtuff. Here’s to next time. 👊🏻😎
5:14 Is it TOO light or is it TOO tight !! 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍 That was awesome!! Add more characters. Your watch channel is a MUCH-NEEDED "breath of fresh air" to us watch lovers. Thanks for your honesty, humor and keeping us interested in watches.
If you like the Transformers, the Citizen Eco Drive BN0150 has kind of rhe Transflrners logo at 12 instead of the pants. It only has a date wheel, which makes it smaller, and being stainless steel it's more substantial. You can also get it on a metal bracelett with the ratchet diver's extension, which can be used for on the fly micro adjustment.
Hey man I just wanna tell you, you and Nico are the best watch youtubers I know and you guys are the main reason why I enjoy collecting some beautiful watches. I recently bought a Casio MTP-V005L analog watch and I'm lovin it! Do you mind making a video about that watch because I'm curios about your opinion and your pros and cons about it (if it's available on your current location/country). Much love brother keep it up! You deserve a million subs!!!❤⌚
Ah, yes, Titanium. The lower weight is a feature, a heavy watch does not do it for me. I've barely worn my Citizen Promaster Tough BN0211-50E because it's almost 200g and it annoys the heck out of me. Not my best purchase, luckily I got it cheap when it was discontinued. I now mostly avoid watches that are more than 100g on the wrist.
I have 3 Citizen watches the blue angel my best. Very nice watch,i have 11 watches w/ the top being Omega Snoopy & Tudor Panda. I wear em all just not equally, i prefer my Tudor but on an Evergreen rubber strap.perfection
These watches, especially the black dial model, are a descendant of the Citizen NY0040 500M supplied to the Marina Militare COMSUBIN ( Italian answer to the US Navy SEALs) during the 1990s. However, the cases on those models were 316L stainless steel.
I own 2 citizen eco-drives my self, a chronograph and a diver and they don't skip a beat. Solid build. Happy with it. And most importantly wife approved 😂
Great review. I have been a Citizen watch collector in preference to Seiko. I recently got the Citizen Promaster Marine BJ7111-86L, and you might like the weight and GMT complication. The blue dial with the white 24-hour scale is very attractive. All the very best to you all, and thank you for your time and effort sharing this with us all. All the best, Sir.
I have a 25 year old steel version of this watch and the blue version of the titanium watch you reviewed. Both are great watches. They are a bit odd and take a while to get used to, but once you do, they are keepers. You didn't mention the military history of this watch with the Italian Navy (TGV covers the interesting history in a video several years ago). Thanks for the excellent review as always 👏. Cheers Noel
A lot of the lower end Japanese watches use improved titanium on the watch head but, (as indicated here) base titanium (which is less scratch resistant), on the straps. Go higher end if you want the fancy scratch resistant coatings on the straps.
I really like the ProMaster lineup but, I agree with you about them having a mineral crystal. If I'm spending $300-$400 on a watch, it needs to have a sapphire crystal. That's the main reason I haven't bought one and, yes, I know that sounds snobbish but, that's just how I feel.
Do I need another citizen promaster river? No. Do I want another one after watching this? Yes. Nice watch, nice video. I'll even throw a like in there for you
MWC, you're definitely THE BEST watch reviewer. It's not only complete, it's a real fun show. Love it ! keep up the great funny yet genius work ! 😅😅😅👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
If you're coming around to Citizen. Try the Citizen Orca on wrist. You won't be disappointed. It's not as big as the dimensions might suggest. And the dial .......
Fun review 🙂. After much debate (with myself) I picked up an NY0040-09W full lumed face version and along with the pants at 12 makes for a very quirky watch.
I can’t unsee the pants now you have mentioned it! Shame about the lack of sapphire at that price point, the bracelet is looking good and beats seiko bracelets hands down, just not sure about the crown and red hand and would be nicer if it was just a date.. I do like it!! But would I buy it?? Hmmm not sure, still on the fence but I would consider it in a different colour
I'd agree with your thoughts on titanium. I've tried the material with a Seiko watch and sold it off. Just too light and I prefer the feel and look of stainless steel more. I was always on the fence about Citizen until I got the Pro Master (steel version). I have two. One blue dial and one black dial with green bezel. I love the legibility and the fact it looks really cool. I never saw the pair of pants until you mentioned it, now I can't unsee that. It is a strap monster with it being 20mm. Makes it also look a bit more retro than 22mm. I just wish they would have nixed the date window. It's small and I generally don't like it on watches anyway. It also should have sapphire. Other than that, I really like them and wear them often. It's a great everyday watch. I found them used for well under $200. The blue I got for $100. At that price I love it.
I knew the Y Fronts were getting a mention. 🤣 I really like these watches.. I think the green is a beautiful model. I still prefer the Eco Drive over the Mytota 8000 series. Nice touch showing the pin and collar up close. Not many people bother and it's good for those who arent familiar with that system! Cheers Russ!
Thanks for the fantastic review MWC! I must admit, I've been thinking about these promaster divers for a while now (both the Auto and Quartz models) to replace my aging-not-that-gracefully Casio Duro. Thank you for the honest and balanced review. Definitely more food for thought!
Dead on correct regarding "Super" Titanium. I have a Promaster Tough Eco-Drive quartz. The solar aspect and accuracy of the watch is great. The understated design is great. The clasp, bezel, and case, look like they took a ride down escalator steps at the mall, and I am not an abusive owner. Seiko solar cells incidentally died in three pieces I've owned.
I bought the same watch and fell for the duratect marketing. I managed to scratch mine up resizing the bracelet. Lesson learned! Do love Citizen, though. When you find a design you like, they just work!
I can't unsee the baby bottle at the bottom now. Excellent observation from the boss lady. I recently bought a Citizen Pro Diver Eco Drive. Absolutely love it except the 23mm lugs. And the spring bars are too close to the case for a nato strap. But the watch itself is fantastic and on sale for less than $150 for a 300m ISO diver. I love Citizen. Casio is still King though. BN0085-01E
Nine years ago bought a Citizen Eco drive chronograph with a perpetual calendar housed in a titanium case and it has been a joy to own. It also has a GMT feature, incredible lume and an alarm. The only disappointment is the alarm, it’s so feeble there is no way it would wake anyone up of a morning. Apart from that a cracking watch.
Nice looking watch. Orange hour marker would finish it off lovely. With the errhmmmm super titanium coating, getting the scratch out of the clasp (if you are inclined to do so) may show more. The green sunburst is awesome. Its okay. Would I buy one? Nah not really, unless it was going silly cheap. Great review
Oh man, I have the same model. I hope you like that bracelet/band, and never want to swap it out. Loved it until I realized the lugs were 14mm, and the band is tapered down to 20mm with a male or female 14mm cutout. This restricts 3rd (or even 1st party) band and bracelet changes. On Tissot or Rolex models with cutouts, I’ve seen third party options, but outside of custom band makers the options are slim to none on the Endeavor. I plan on trimming a leather, FKM or other diver’s strap to fit.
I don’t pike the left sided crown. Also the bezel is a little eh. I have a black promaster and it’s an orange hand, you’re correct about the color. I may buy another citizen down the road but not sure
Great video! I like this watch, I especially like seeing the crown at 8 O'clock instead of 4 O'clock, which should make it a bit more comfortable to wear and also tends to give it an air of sophistication.
I love the Citizen Promaster NY0040/80 series! I think it's a better option than the SKX. Stainless steel back cover version is not as thick and these are not as top heavy as the Seiko counterparts. Still ISO certified and very affordable! Can still be found for around $200 - $250 on Stainless steel. I have the NY0040 Full Lume, the Coke and Pepsi (NY0085 and 86) and Also the Green version (NY0084). Another bonus is that Long Island Watch has upgraded bracelets for these models and are really great with solid end links, solid links and milled clasp! Great video as always MWC! Thanks!
I am a big fan of Citizen, titanium watches and green dials. Even good titanium bracelets tend to feel cheap, because of their lightness. But where Citizen drops the ball and loses me on this one is the 8000 series movement. I don't mind the spinning so much as they can be rattley I have a 30 year old titanium solar watch the capacitor died, but the watch still looks great! The titanium "scratches" are more like scuffs and are fairly easily removed I believe.
Got to disagree on the 8204 - it's an absolutely amazing movement at this price point. I've got the stainless steel promaster with it in and honestly its the most accurate automatic I have in the collection at around +1 sec a day. Kicks Seiko's 4R35 for sure. Deffo have a look at more Citizens they make some amazing pieces.
I will do Ian! Like I said I just don’t like the winding of it . I interact a lot with my watches and it’s just a movement I’ve steer cleared of. Also the uni directional rotor, the fact it has do full360 degree rotations to power the mainspring just feels a little cheap! BUT!! no doubt it’s very reliable!
This is a really good watch. Over the summer I picked up the black coated one with the blue bezel and dial. According to the citizen website mine is sapphire crystal. Great watch and it wears smaller than the dimensions may imply.
Citizen lume is great in my experience. Have no idea why it got just 7. Might not be as blazing bright as some, but my BN0200 was close enough to my Seiko monster, but it lasted longer and somehow charged better or more easily in dim/indirect lighting than even the Monster which is known to be one of the best lumed watches off all time afaik.
it's a decepticon, 😂 , pants and baby bottle lmao, you certainly have a way with scrutiny, I too actually like the look of this one, big but, titanium😞
I have the "newer" version of this one on a PVC black coat with dark blue dial (model NY0158-09L), however, it comes on a rubber bracelet, I wish I could have it on steel as well! And it's a 44mm instead of a 42mm. Wonderful watch
Titanium is incredibly strong - at the cost of being soft. It generally scratches much easier. Duratect makes it much more reasonable, but it's still soft. Try uncoated untreated titanium out, that gets a scratch just by looking at it.
I’ve got divers ranging from $50-$4,000 but the one that has seen more actual dive time than any of the others is my citizen promaster diver. It’s quality enough and I’m not that worried if I whack it against a scuba tank (which I’ve done numerous times 🙄).
Citizen made the perfect watch for me. Its a NB 1050 series with a hi beat movement. I can't bring myself to get another Seiko with all the QC problems...for now
If you're into Star Wars and you're OK with Eco Drive watches, I suggest taking a look at the Citizen Bespin. It's a limited edition watch and I think it looks great. Wish there were a mechanical or automatic version though.
They do not create new metal alloys of Titanium, they simply just come up with a marketing name. Maybe they temper it to give call it "Super Titanium" , its budget Ti you can be certain. Pin and collar, meh. Duratech, another marketing word for a thin coating of not much. Still, they are going in the right direction and I like day date. Wish it was eco-drive. Thanks for the good honest review
I’ve been into watches basically all my life but I didn’t catch the watch bug until a few years ago and for the longest time I liked citizen much more than seiko. Dollar for dollar, citizen makes better watches. The issue with them is their busy designs and lack of automatics. So now I like seiko more because they have so many awesome designs but their quality and quality control are subpar imo
I have one of the steel coke models for a beater. Great little watch! Mine has a folded link bracelet, boo! But on the fly adjustment, yeah! Only paid £180 new. But doesn't hack, boo.
Citizen's range of watchmaking is impressive, I have chronograph dive, field True GMT, regatta with perpetual calendar, and automatic dress with exhibit and pearl dial
Cool 😎
For all us mortals who cannot afford more then $500 on a watch, citizen do a wonderful job. My two eco drives in chronograph are fantastic.

By actually aligning their watches properly
Agree on the looks but find a one you like and great watches, the quality is always spot on.
Got a UK-only Citizen Ray Mears a year ago and I love it! Best money I’ve ever spent.

Is it TOO light or is it TOO tight !!
🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍
That was awesome!!

Have one. Good watch. 😊
Excellent video. I've had to watch it twice as I laughed all the way through the first time. Pants on a dial just did it for me first time.
Nice watch, but I agree with you about having an orange hand over red!
I have 3 Citizen watches the blue angel my best. Very nice watch,i have 11 watches w/ the top being Omega Snoopy & Tudor Panda. I wear em all just not equally, i prefer my Tudor but on an Evergreen rubber strap.perfection
Toughness and scratch resistance are 2 different things, the scratch on the clasp does not speak to the toughness of the metal
Then you definitely don’t need any tougher than stainless steel ???
Mine has 3 years
I use it at work, it's a tank and it's one of the prettiest diver in my collection
These watches, especially the black dial model, are a descendant of the Citizen NY0040 500M supplied to the Marina Militare COMSUBIN ( Italian answer to the US Navy SEALs) during the 1990s. However, the cases on those models were 316L stainless steel.
I recently bought a seiko…a far way better than my old citizen Marine sport… no comparison the seiko 5 gmt is a beast compared the citizen.
I own 2 citizen eco-drives my self, a chronograph and a diver and they don't skip a beat. Solid build. Happy with it. And most importantly wife approved 😂
I gave one to my son - who is a diver and uses it on the wrist not with the computer - he loves it......
Cheers Noel
Bought my first Citizen Eco Drive yesterday and I really love it!
The Decepticons are the good guys
That’s what an older brother would say! In fact I said it!
Their Promaster Sky and Promaster Land series tend to come with sapphire crystals.
I own one of each.
As a bonus there is radio control aboard.
I tell myself ; ' it's a bull's head..it's a bull's head..per of pants (doh! no!!)..bull's head...ad.inf...
Dude. I need to send you my Citizen Pro master Carbon Chronograph from 2007. It's an absolute unit. Very chunky chunky. I still absolutely love it!
@@AvicSubfusca Yes. Very reliable and good lume.
BN0085-01E
Promaster
@@e28forever30Thank you, you are correct. Pro Master, not Pro Diver.
The Citizen Tsuyosa look last good 👍🏻 MWC would be cool to see you review one!
My first Citizen was the tsuyosa, o got the yellow one and I’m loving it
Nine years ago bought a Citizen Eco drive chronograph with a perpetual calendar housed in a titanium case and it has been a joy to own.
Thank you my friend
I've got a Citizen Endeavour Ecodrive in green with a rotating bezel. Love it, weighs in at around 193g, so it's chunky and wears very well.
RUSSELL- I thought we'd have seen Curt Santana coming in with a "SUUPA" every time you mentioned "Super-Titanium"!!!🤪⌚💯♥
I don't mind the spinning so much as they can be rattley
I have a 30 year old titanium solar watch the capacitor died, but the watch still looks great!
"A pair of pants at 12 o'clock" Call of the day Sir.
I've got the Citizen Skyhawk atm, and I absolutely love it.
I have the steel full lume variant on a rubber strap.
It is my favourite dive watch.
Haha quite contrary to you, the main reason I was attracted to Citizen at first was it's name. Still my favourite watch brand name.
Nice one Milan!
Wow !!! Yes indeed it's in my Jomashop cart !!!
This is a really good watch. Over the summer I picked up the black coated one with the blue bezel and dial. According to the citizen website mine is sapphire crystal. Great watch and it wears smaller than the dimensions may imply.
Love my Promaster NY. Wanted a SKX but they are not available anymore. Great alternative, feels great.
Left side crown is a bonus for me as I wear on the right wrist
Citizen high end HAQ The Citizen Washi dial Chronomaster. Must review that stunning timepiece.
🤌
it's a decepticon, 😂 , pants and baby bottle lmao, you certainly have a way with scrutiny, I too actually like the look of this one, big but, titanium😞
I can't bring myself to get another Seiko with all the QC problems...for now
As others have said, now Seiko have priced themselves out of the budget market, Citizen are looking better and better. I have several and love them.
I like the Promasters, a few scratches on a tool watch wouldn't bother me much.
Thanks for the upload,
Cheers 🍻
If you're into Star Wars and you're OK with Eco Drive watches, I suggest taking a look at the Citizen Bespin. It's a limited edition watch and I think it looks great. Wish there were a mechanical or automatic version though.
Im wearing this watch while watching this! I really love the colors on this watch.
Citizen is the best brand right now
The blue dialled Citizen Promaster NY-0040 diver is my current grail watch, hope to get it for my 20th birthday.
citizen and casio over seiko anyday
F91W and BM8180 blow Seiko away. Except for 7548, but that was 40 years ago when Seiko were the business. 😊
...especially for solar technology.
Love, love, my Orca! Eco-drive is impressive.
"Pair of pants at 12 o'clock" caught me off guard, almost had a spit take.
Not interested in the watch whatsoever but the delivery had me laughing and staying to the end! Good fun. Will be watching more of the channel.
