- What do Travis Scott, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the pope all have in common? Besides their worldwide fame, the high-profile group share an affinity for the luxurious Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, the popular “G Wagen” truck that’s become a celebrity favorite over the years. But the G Wagen’s esteemed history precedes any of the fanfare doled out by entertainers and high-profile personalities, dating back as far as the early 1900s when the vehicle was primarily used for military purposes.
In fact, it would be decades before the SUV really became a civilian car during the early ’90s. Additions like wood-trimmed interior and cruise control helped to modernize the utilitarian truck, but it would still be another 20 years before its official entrance into the U.S. Its limited distribution solidified the G Wagen as an exclusive investment, a reputation that has followed the beefy model well into the new-age.
Now, it’s not only commonplace but perhaps even a mark of distinction for celebrities to flaunt the Mercedes SUV in their daily lives and on social media. Scott, for one, reportedly shelled out $1.6 million USD last month to acquire his Maybach edition. But regardless of the driver or the year in question, the G Wagen’s prestige has proven that it can stand the test of time.

Yeah, handling is certainly utilitarian, but that’s the original purpose of the vehicle. I personally like it. Drives like a heavy truck which was a pro when I picked up mine.

I kind of like boxy vehicles, they look, strong, 'stealth-y' and strangely classy to me. We have this vehicle in india called bolero, i guess its from mahindra motors, which is kind of, boxy, probably someone was inspired by the Mercedes' design. It has a seperate base of lovers.
The Range is way more popular and slick than the G-Wagon. This is not to say the G-wagon is not outstanding. It’s just a luxurious wrangler !

Not many other 6 figure loaded SUV's out there. Celebs don't buy just any G-class, it must be AMG, Maybach or Brabus, the whole shabang. Most of them are 'sports' versions (lowered with aerodynamics of brick). You can see a lot of Russian mafia rocking these.
The closest big scary lux car is Hummer, also loved by celebs. It's all about the presence and show off. Nothing to do with a car itself.
