Imagine spending $400 million for the rights to a franchise, then shitting all over it because you didn't want to spend a small amount of that money to pay writers. Unbelievable.
Most of that money was actually used just to get Ellen Burstyn 😂 They made her so many offers that she kept refusing because she thought the script was ass and finally after they offered her twice as much as the most she’s ever made from a film and agreed to pay for an entire fundraiser she was very passionate about she finally agreed and then she shit on the script publicly months before the release lmao
Not really. Universal HAD to promise a trilogy in order to get the rights, and they had to get their streaming service Peacock to handle the sequels if need be so that they could guarantee that the sequels would be made one way or another, and this deal was made before the streaming bubble began to burst, in a time when Netflix paid nearly $500 million for the rights to two Knives Out sequels.
@@troin3925 What I mean was when the substantial growth streaming was having began to slow down last year and investors began to question studios that had their own streaming services on how exactly they were planning to make them profitable after spending ludicrous amounts of money on exclusive content for them. This is part of the reason why there’s been stuff in the last year and a half like price hikes, the introduction of and focus on ad-supported tiers, crackdowns on password sharing, and content being pulled from streaming services or canned all together in the name of tax write offs or cost cutting, as well as a renewed focus on licensing content out to other streaming services. The fact of the matter is that with the exception of Netflix (and even they have shown to not be completely immune to all this), streaming isn’t really a substantial business, and the studios that had their own streaming services were caught off guard when the streaming bubble began to burst.
I recommend The Cleansing Hour. It's an above average horror movie where a fake exorcist has to deal with a real demon on a live stream. The main actress does an amazing job.

Charlie mentioning the jumpscares where they're just talking or doing something mundane is definitely true, but I know exactly why they did it. Because the original did, but they missed the execution and the purpose. The original had scenes where the main character would be just lying down or talking to a doctor and they would subtly flash a frame of a demon, meant to represent that the demon who possessed them is present and make the viewer feel dread. But, of course, they didn't use a noise or overuse it. I actually love the Exorcist 3's big jumpscare of the movie, so I feel like there is a proper way to use them and this new one didn't know how.
This movie doesn't do it as strong as the original, but much of the flashing at least has to do with what they're discussing or relates somewhat to what's happening in the movie. And I think it keeps the viewer on edge and a little anxious, so long as they're willing to be invested in the movie they're watching. The flashing Imagery isn't used as good as the original, but a lot of this movie does what the original did well enough, and I think it's recieving too much flack for it
The biggest crime in this film is the total betrayal of Chris (Ellen Bs character) and Reagans relationship. After EVERYTHING they went through and the bond they made in the first film (even deeper in the book) it makes no sense to me that Chris would betray Reagan by going against her wishes to write that book. Furthermore such a massive thing is Chris' gratitude towards the two priests in The Exorcist, and then in this film she makes som joke about them upholding the patriarchy???
Interesting to see this comment (haven’t seen the new movie) because that’s something that also happened in the tv show, which I had thought they were retconning. I actually liked the tv show though

@@Mr._Pancakes I can certainly guarantee with the effort he gives his own content. He could make a banger horror film, but giving critique doesn't mean you want to create your own. He could point out issues in a AAA game doesn't mean he wants to try and make a AAA game.
I would love to see a demon possession movie where the demons goal and/or motivation is actually explained and explored. Like, how does jumping into a human and then just being kind of a gross asshole for a while effect the celestial battle between good and evil on a cosmic scale? I'm missing that part of the narrative and I would like to have it.
I would recommend "Nefarious" for a good example of that. Fair warning, the film is VERY Christian (and I mean honest to God Evangelist Conservative Christian) but is actually really well done and explores the idea of demonic possession and gives a (from what actually exorcists have described demonic possession as) pretty realistic look at demonic possession (if you believe in it)
Please keep making content like this for people like me who will NEVER watch these movies but still like to be in the loop. These videos are better than the actual movie for me haha
I just watched this movie, and let me just say that I was with a group of friends who all get easily scared, but while this movie was playing we were all giggling at how goofy the characters and editing were. Out of the whole film we agreed that the only successfully executed jump scare was the one with the snake (small 2 min long clip at the beginning, with no plot connection). It felt like this movie was the farthest thing from a horror movie ever.
My favorite bit of possession-related media to date is the Faith game series. You genuinely don't need millions of dollars to make a captivating horror experience.
Dude, the part when you're reading the note and it starts getting super twisted and horrible and goes off the rails, and when you finish and realize you're a horrid little crawling demon yourself... that part was so shocking that I started laughing out loud like I had been possessed! XD Faith is such a great series
the original exorcist also did the image thing where the picture of pazuzu would pop up on screen, but ofc in that movie it made sense and was only for a second, but that was them trying to capture the same spookiness
"erm acktchually, verbalace only spent ~$50,000.00 where as the subject of this video is a company that spent ~$400,000,000.00" -🤓 (my dork ass needs to go the fuck outside)
I literally forgot they were making another Exorcist movie until this video. And tbh I'm still wondering why the studio thought another Exorcist movie was gonna do well
Charlie! I met you last night and asked for a picture! I wanted to say something that I didn’t get a chance to say! People love you and your content because you’re genuine, have a great moral compass, and a great sense of humor. You don’t have a massive editing team behind you or anything. It’s just you, your camera, and your personality. I really do love it. I think there’s proof of that in your follower count but I just wanted to be able to say thank you! Thanks for letting my boys and I take that picture what a special moment.
If more people knew the story of what that lady went through with the first Exorcist movie then they'd understand why she was given a roll where no one would notice if she said "no" to it; because there probably was a good chance that she would have said no, or backed out.
Calling the demon "nothing but a nuisance" is such a good descriptor for it, lmaoo. After the demon pokes out the ladies' eyes, it goes, "If you want to see your daughter again, just open your eyes! Hahaha". Like.. what do these demons even want?? What's the point?? They never tell us. So, part of me always finds it funny that these demons just terrorize these families purely for the fun of it. I can never take it seriously.
I think in theory demons are just corrupt souls turned evil by being tortured in hell, so once they get out and start using humans bodies as vessels, they’re out for vengeance. They’re angry and just want to punish really anybody even if they had nothing to do with their damnation
The funniest thing about this movie was the fact that the marketing was actually good, but they'd do it even during the day. Myself watching an NFL game with my 2 year old sitting next to me and all of a sudden she screams at the TV. xD WHAT WERE THEY THINKING.
The reason they used those flashing images was because, in the original, there are interlaced frames of disturbing images used to create a subliminal feeling of dread. They happen so quickly that the viewer hardly has time to register it. At some point, after the original was released, censorship laws made it illegal to use subliminal imagery/messaging in any form of media. Thats why they have to make it more apparent this time around.
Let’s not forgot that the director of this movie is currently speed running for a world record trying to make dull trilogies out of every notable horror franchise of the last 50 years.

Imagine spending $400 million for the rights to a franchise, then shitting all over it because you didn't want to spend a small amount of that money to pay writers. Unbelievable.
Well, there was the writers' strike going on. When was this movie made?
@@williamking3301Pre writers strike lol
Star Wars was purchased for 4 billion. They've only made about 1 back so far and people are sick of star wars already.
The writers get paid 9 grand a week. Disparu already covered this.
Filming ended in March. It's got nothing to do with the strike.
@LordTommyParkyVEVOIT OBVIOUSLY ISNT !!!!!
@@MysteryMii What exactly did you mean by "The the streaming bubble began to burst?" I just want to make sure.
Thats KInda Funny
I recommend The Cleansing Hour. It's an above average horror movie where a fake exorcist has to deal with a real demon on a live stream. The main actress does an amazing job.
i think it would be cool if they explored the idea of the whole world getting possessed or nearly the whole world somehow and it’s like the church against the whole world of possessed people kinda like a crusade or world war z or smth idk i think it would be cool

Oh, I agree 💯! The production company paid $400million simply for the right to THE EXORCIST to make a planned trilogy. This 1st film is getting terrible reviews and the box office numbers don't look promising. So they likely just threw away $400miilion!!

@@Neotheaterr yeah, and what’s with the ”translate/don’t translate” comments??

Charlie mentioning the jumpscares where they're just talking or doing something mundane is definitely true, but I know exactly why they did it. Because the original did, but they missed the execution and the purpose. The original had scenes where the main character would be just lying down or talking to a doctor and they would subtly flash a frame of a demon, meant to represent that the demon who possessed them is present and make the viewer feel dread. But, of course, they didn't use a noise or overuse it. I actually love the Exorcist 3's big jumpscare of the movie, so I feel like there is a proper way to use them and this new one didn't know how.
To quote Adum from his Oldboy review "Why are you showing it if the whole point of showing it isn't there!? Why!?"
"the patriarchy"? Oh now I'm ABSOLUTELY ELATED this movie flopped.
Interesting to see this comment (haven’t seen the new movie) because that’s something that also happened in the tv show, which I had thought they were retconning. I actually liked the tv show though
Of course they brought modern shit into this. I bet too that Angela is the black girl. As soon as I heard the choice clip in the trailer I knew the black girl would live cuz it’s impossible for her not to at this point in Hollywood. Wish none had to die but still thought it was funny I called it

Yes
The motivations of demons can be summed up pretty simply: misery loves company
The destruction of innocence and to bring suffering, suffering breeds contempt and contempt breeds godless people
@@boondock2099 I feel a better way of "breeding godless people" would be by not giving them direct evidence demons exist.

I don't know, the ending scene of the girl dying made my heart race, that shits terrifying if you think about the concept.
So it’s just like the original exorcist boring not scary Bs

My favorite bit of possession-related media to date is the Faith game series. You genuinely don't need millions of dollars to make a captivating horror experience.
Dude, the part when you're reading the note and it starts getting super twisted and horrible and goes off the rails, and when you finish and realize you're a horrid little crawling demon yourself... that part was so shocking that I started laughing out loud like I had been possessed! XD Faith is such a great series
Father Clarke locking himself in the basement with the demon and talking about how this is God’s work to the detective was actually insane.
the original exorcist also did the image thing where the picture of pazuzu would pop up on screen, but ofc in that movie it made sense and was only for a second, but that was them trying to capture the same spookiness
For sure. It would only happen when Pazuzus influence was peaking or creeping in.
That image of Pazuzu still haunts my nightmares.
Didn’t waste as much money as verbalace
"erm acktchually, verbalace only spent ~$50,000.00 where as the subject of this video is a company that spent ~$400,000,000.00" -🤓 (my dork ass needs to go the fuck outside)

If more people knew the story of what that lady went through with the first Exorcist movie then they'd understand why she was given a roll where no one would notice if she said "no" to it; because there probably was a good chance that she would have said no, or backed out.

Preach. Excellent detective story with paranormal elements. The 4th isn’t even that bad. The new one aside, Exorcist 2 is horrendous
Calling the demon "nothing but a nuisance" is such a good descriptor for it, lmaoo.
After the demon pokes out the ladies' eyes, it goes, "If you want to see your daughter again, just open your eyes! Hahaha".
