- We are at Eagles's Canyon Raceway and getting the first taste of the performance of the ALL NEW GR Corolla Morizo Edition. On the outside you will find 18in forged wheels, carbon fiber roof, and big bulge hood. On the inside there are special seats, rear seat delete and extra bracing. Under the hood is a 1.6L turbo inline-3 that pumps out 300HP & mated to a 6-speed manual. Is the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition a hot hatch that's WORTH it?

The great thing about Eagles Canyon Raceway is the insane amount of grip the surface provides. Makes that full send incredibly easy.
Curious how it will compare to my 2018 STI on track (circuit edition). very very interested in the GR Corolla.
Toyota is literally knocking it out of the ball park with their products so far. That matte grey paint looks pretty bad (but in a good way) as heck! Also, thank you Toyota for keeping the manual alive!
I think they did great with the GR86 and the specs of the GR Corolla... but to me the interior still looks as basic as a cheap standard Corolla - with some better seats added in.

One of the favorite cars of all time was the 2008 STI hatchback. This GR Corolla is making me remember the good ol' days of AWD hot hatches. Glad they're bringing it back.

The GR Corolla looks to be a fantastic car. The interior and DSG of the MK8 Golf R won me over, though. I’m a manual transmission fan (R has this option), but the latest version of the DSG is … simply unbelievable. R keeps a lower-profile, also. If I was in my early 20’s, I’d be all about this GR!
How is driving it in heavy traffic and have you had any issues with your tyranny.

@@FSXflyermaster some really great DCTs can sometimes be better than really crappy manuals with horribly long vague and rubbery throws and terribly High clutch engagement points. Not often but it does happen. Obviously if we're talking s2k/Si/Type R or Miata or 911/Cayman manuals then of course no auto is better than those manuals.
But my mk7 Golf R DCT functioned way better than my buddies mk7 Golf R manual. Felt like I was rowing gears in a school bus when driving his car LOL

Very impressive! 100 HP per cylinder? Awesome! AWD? Fantastic! 6 Speed, Limited Slip diff? Bring it on! OH, wait.... $52,000 (expected price, not including the $10k dealers will probably add on)? Not so cool.
Same thing happened with the Focus RS and Civic Type R when they first launched. Dealers tried charging half 100k for them when they first arrived. This car should sell well especially considering the STi is no more but definitely wait a year and save a lot of money for anyone who’s interested.

This is an incredibly expensive, wicked little car. Most americans will not appreciate a car this small and expensive (3 cylinder!). But this is the kind of maniacal design that is so common in Japan, where 1.5 liter is considered luxurious.

The Toyota Corolla gr looks like a sport sedan with the full body kit put on into it and the design of the headlight just makes the Corolla looks angry and ready to race!

@Michael Charity are you seriously comparing an F1 to a Corolla? Wings add weight and a ton of drag in exchange for increased rear downforce. If the car doesn't need the downforce, which is the case with this one, the wing serves no purpose. It looks cool, which is why it'll be on the production versions.
I like the paint on this car . It looks great in the Mate grey paint. Also I can't imagine the gas mileage on this car

Love the review, Toyota just aren't pulling their punches for MY2023 cars, and I love it. I'd still go for a full backseat version of this badass, but I love it's a street legal racecar with full interior

I think you meant they aren't pulling any punches 😅 If they won't stop pulling punches, that would imply they are holding back. But yea I think they are doing good with the Circuit edition but the core edition which most people will get / the first one on offer is a bit plain looking but no one on YT seems to be given that one by Toyota or I haven't seen it much.
@@MKu64 Oops, yea I messed that up lmao Thanks for pointing that out, fixed now. I'm trying to convince my wife to get the GR Corolla. I haven't seen a ton of coverage on the Corolla, and apart from what track footage was in this video and Ken Gushi demonstrating the GR Corolla on track and dirt, there's been very little driving of it. But as the MY23 comes upon us, there'll be a lot of POV driving of this and the manual Supra. Gonna be great videos later in the summer

I like the rear seat delete and would like to see more hot hatches on the road like this. But there isn't a race track near me to really make use of this car's special characteristics. If there were more race tracks then more cars like this would sell.

2023 GR supra now offers a 6 speed inline manual
2023 gr86 is a nice NA option for RWD enthusiasts
2023 Nissan Z is just a SICK callback to the past and boasts 400HP
All in all though....... I LOVE my integra 06 type r
2700 Lbs 210HP still handles like a dream.
