Another one from '80 is Stardust Memories. I think it's underrated, and it has an incredibly prophetic scene that came true a few weeks after its release.
Yeah, Stardust Memories is in my top 10 for 1980 too. A couple of other overlooked (both in the vid. and in the comments) top 10-ers according to me: The Stuntman and Resnais's astonishing Mon Oncle d'Amerique. And Dennis Hopper's Linda Manz-starring Out of the Blue is the great 'is it good or is it terrible?', worth-a-watch movie of the year.
I started in 1970 and have watched up to this video and will now go back to 1950, these videos are great they remind me a little of moviedrome great knowledge and great choices I can’t believe there are not more subscribers, keep up the good work, the best film related you tube channel for me just for this series alone.

I just recently discovered your channel and I am absolutely hooked! Surprisingly, our tastes are remarkably similar and, most importantly, I am learning about some new cinematic masterpieces unknown to me. Thank you kind sir for all you do- if you are ever in Madrid or Seoul let me know- I definitely would be honored to treat you to a pint. Cheers!
my top 10: 1 Airplane! 2 The Elephant Man 3 Raging Bull 4 The Young Master 5 The Blues Brothers 6 The Heroes 7 Flag of Iron 8 The Long Riders 9 The Changeling 10 Stir Crazy
Great video, as one should expect from this channel. My top 5 is: 5. Kagemusha One of Kurosawa's best. A visually stunning and epic acheivement. 4. The Elephant Man I am in love with everything David Lynch has ever made (Twin Peaks: The Return is probably the greatest thing I have ever seen), so of couse I loved The Elephant Man. John Hurt is heartbreaking. 3. The Empire Strikes Back One of the few sequels that is superior to the original. It's one of the great action and sci-fi films. 2. The Shining Kubrick is my favorite director ever, and The Shining is probably the scariest film I have seen (Not the best horror film though. That title goes to Psycho). Every actor is amazing, especially NIcholson. The only thing that keeps it from taking the top spot is some minor pacing issues. The film is a bit all over the place. Still an all-time great experience though. 1. Raging Bull In my opinion, one of the top 25 greatest films ever made, and the best of the entire decade. De Niro's performance will forever be the best I have ever witnessed. And what's crazy is that it is only my 3rd favorite Scorsese films, with my top 2 being Taxi Driver and Goodfellas. And I have to give a mention Airplane, as it is a film that I can quote for hours. I have to ask, what's your favorite film of the 50's, 60's and 70's?
1. The Blues Brothers 2. Kagemusha 3. Shock Treatment 4. The Empire Strikes Back 5. Flying High 6. Somewhere in Time 7. Caddyshack 8. Superman II 9. Popeye 10. Flash Gordon
My list of the best movies of the 1980s, in no particular order: 1.) Baby, It's You 2.) Drugstore Cowboy 3.) Melvin and Howard 4.) Atlantic City 5.) Raging Bull 6.) Reds 7.) Roger & Me 8.) Blade Runner 9.) Full Metal Jacket 10.) Last Exit to Brooklyn 11.) Repo Man 12.) Raiders of the Lost Ark 13.) Empire Strikes Back 14.) River's Edge 15.) Risky Business
It sucks that Jonathan Demme died so young. I think I would have a tough time choosing between Something Wild and Married To the Mob for my favorite film of his.🎉
My 10 for 1980 10. The Elephant Man 9. Airplane 8. Melvin and Howard 7. The Blues Brothers 6. Ordinary People 5. Heaven's Gate 4. The Shining 3. Gloria 2. Gregory's Girl NUMBER ONE: RAGING BULL
My Top 10 (honorable mention to The Elephant Man): 10. Caddyshack 9. 9 to 5 8. Superman II 7. Airplane! 6. Stardust Memories 5. Dressed to Kill 4. Raging Bull 3. The Shining 2. Friday the 13th 1. The Empire Strikes Back
Airplane was exactly what I needed 32 and left the profession I studied for, Moved to California and was now trying to settle.in a new occupation, 1 Somewhere in Time, pure romantic time travel, gorgeous score by John Barry 2 Altered States, Ken Russells. dive into psychedelics Interesting joint. but I do not buy the photo human de evolution. 3 Humanoids from the Deep. my favorite Drive in fare. 4 Reserection. an overlooked gem staring Ellen Burstan this one deserves better. 5 The Blue Lagoon. just pretty to look at. You nailed all my other favorites.
I have a top 10: 10 Prom Night 9 Private Benjamin 8 Stir Crazy 7 Friday The 13th 6 Terror Train 5 Maniac 4 Airplane! 3 The Shining 2 Dressed To Kill 1 The Fog
People say the fact Jack Nicholson is a "bit mad to begin with" as you put it as a criticism. But I've always looked at it as a good thing. As it makes the journey into madness seem more believable. 1)The Shining 2)The Elephant Man 3)The Empire Strikes Back 4)Airplane! 5)Raging Bull
It was released in each country during their peak season for cinema going. So it was first released in Australia in December 1980 and wasn't released until 6 months later in the States in June 1981. Really weird way to do it.
The best Star Wars movie (Empire Strikes Back) ever or the best horror movie (The Shining) ever? - The Shining - Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back - Altered State - The Stunt Man - The Elephant Man - Raging Bull - The Long Good Friday - Breaker Morant - Atlantic City - Airplane! - Kagemusha - Ordinary People - The Blues Brothers

Groundskeeper Willie was in 2.
I was obsessed with the movie Airplane when it came out. As well as Zero Hour, Airplane borrows heavily from Airport 1975.
