Agreed, I recently saw a list on TH-cam that gave the top 20 Christian band list and they put Stryper like 17ish. I just don’t think people realize if you look at there whole body of work how good these guys really are. Michael Sweet is such a good writer/ producer/singer. The whole band is talented.

This brings back so many memories. I walked into…a record store…remember those?….and saw this on a shelf behind the counter…on VHS. I bought it, and wore that thing out. I still have it. Just watched a few songs here, and can’t wait to watch the whole thing this weekend. Jarring to seeing Michael Sweet without a guitar for that first song. I’d forgotten about that! The band was so good here…and they STILL bring it to this day!
I haven’t seen this show in forever, so thank you for sharing this.

Only band i could see as a young teen in the 80's due to hyper religious parents. I go to work to Decide and Suffocation nearly every morning to this day. But since i don't believe in any of it, and it's just music. I can say that seeing Stryper as my first concert was definitely metal. The guitar sound is still one of my favorite ever. They played and performed = to anyone at the time. I've seen uncountable shows from punk to slayer to slayer wih punk bands ( literal life threatening situations) deicide, rush, to motorhead, you name it. Stryper put on a pro show period.

When I first heard of Stryper, back in the Middle 1980s, I wondered what they were all about.
Over the years, as I saw them go from one Costume type to another, they definitely reminded me of Girls. That ever-so-effective effeminate look.. and yet, they "Sang about Jesus"...or so they said.
Nobody seemed to pay attention to the lifestyles that they were living, behind the scenes, because they had become so popular, that their Albums sold (At least for a time), like hotcakes.
In more recent years, much has surfaced, about how these guys were, behind the scenes. Greg D'Angelo, the Drummer for White Lion, told of a time, when he saw two young ladies carrying Robert Sweet back to his Hotel Room. His words were:"Robert was so drunk that he couldn't even stand up". Tim Gaines, the former Bass Guitarist for Stryper, told this in an interview:"From the end of 1988, until (Sometime) in Early 1997, I was drunk EVERY DAY"!
In later times, especially with the release of the Album "The Covering ", which was released back in 2011, Stryper released an Album chocked full of Metal Songs (Including 2 new songs that they had written), which included Black Sabbath's "After Forever", Judas Priest's "Breaking The Law", Kiss's "Shout it out loud", Van Halen's "On Fire", and several other songs, that were from Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Bands, that have nothing to do with either God or Christianity! Personally, I was somewhat shocked by all of this. When Stryper was questioned about why they had released such an Album, you know what their answer was? They actually had the gall to tell people to "Lighten up"!
I think I can see why Tim Gaines left the Band. Maybe... although I don't know for sure. Could it be, that he was tired of the absolute hypocrisy, that he saw, time after time after time?!?
Just a couple of hours ago, I saw the Bass Guitarist, Perry Richardson, talking in a short clip, then giving the "Metal Horns" Satanic Salute.
My feelings are, quite simply, this: Don't try to tell me, that Stryper is a Christian Band. They've shown too much hypocrisy in the past, for me to ever believe them, or to listen to their music, ever again.
    I.......
    Just......
    Can't........

On many live shows, one notices some "suspicious" moments where there are probably pre-recorded vocals. Doesn't seem to be like that here though. Seems like he cut short the scream in the beginning of Loud 'n' Clear due to it not feeling good or something.

I find, after a couple of songs that there is nothing clear, defined, and directive for me to walk along the path of righteousness. A lot of Bible "words" without the scriptures and the teachings that give me a straight and narrow path to walk. I have also read many comments here that are much more about the music and the band, rather than about God and His Kingdom under the leadership and rule of Jesus Christ.

    • @mpmattson

Remember who they're singing to and the motive. It's not about condensing seminary into a concert but just giving kids some alternative to the 'run with the devil' typical message. It is a huge victory just to be listened to by the metal audience - there's enough Jesus in there if they're open.
