I like to think that Chris wrote it potentially about both love and death. And the idea of doing anything to end the pain this life unfortunately contained for him sadly making the end necessary. But he knows love is an eternal force that he’ll wait alone forever to have again.
I never did make out what Cornell what was saying so this is the first time I've heard the lyrics. And yes, I had a similar reaction when I realized what he was singing about. It's one of those 'Ahh, ohhh, so that's what this song is about' moments.
Hardcore Cornell lover and I didn’t expect to be crying at 930 am on a Wednesday drinking coffee. This is amazing and beautiful and absolutely spectacular. Well done. Bravo. 😘

Fantastic cover. Covers by professional bands are usually a tribute so no anger is needed. You should watch Serj Tankian sing this with prophets of rage as well.
This is truly beautiful. Chris would have loved this. Atreyu still giving us the good shit over 20 years later and reminding us of the giants music was built on. Much love guys and thanks for keeping Chris alive
Chris Cornell was & will be one of my top 3 artists , losing really hit me deep. Bowie is another. When my little boy Keaton died in 03, one the way to his inurnment of his ashes a few weeks later, I Am the Highway came on the radio & I felt Keaton with me. Then everytime I heard it I knew it was his sign to tell me he's there. This song really spoke to me as well.. Years after he died someone sent me Chris' song "I Promise It's Not Goodbye" he wrote for a father who's little girl died after a long terminal illness similar to Keaton who was severe special needs & chronically ill his whole life. There is a lyric that goes "Bubba please don't cry.." which is what my oldest had always been called since Keaton was born, for Brother. My youngest did as well... so that song just touched my soul more than any other.. And it was Chris. Losing him is huge to the rock fans, or just music in general, & even more because I connected him to Keaton. So I think they did AMAZING covering this & honoring Chris. What an incredible tribute.
This has been popping up constantly as one of the first suggestions on my TH-cam main page for the past 24 hours and I eventually just thought "Fine, I'll check it out". Despite the title, I did not at all expect this to actually be a cover of one of my favorite Audioslave songs, much less one of the best covers I've heard of any song ever. Kudos to you Atreyu; you blew me away.
I first saw this and thought “no, don’t touch that”. I’m glad they did. Phenomenal cover and tribute. Almost brought me to tears. Edit* it did bring me to tears. Original was released when I was 20 and was a ballad for my young adulthood. Thank you, Atreyu.
I've got to say my first thought seeing it as someone as not a regular Atreyu listener and a hardcore Chris Cornell fan was ballsy choice. Well done honestly. I'm impressed.
In 2007 after losing my father to cancer and ending up in a penitentiary I took part inside in a writing competition for short stories. Wow. RIP Chris.. what a beautiful cover and tribute. Glad to see Atreyu still slayin. Discovered them in Congregation of the Damned days... Just awesome.
And you believe in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy? it's all the same, stories to help us sleep better at night. If anything is certain Cornell certainly did not believe in heaven himself.
My best friend would have loved this song, it was one of his favorite songs and you guys were one of his favorite bands RIP bestie, I hope you’re at peace now 🥺😭
Hands down, the best cover (I’ve heard) of such a beautiful piece of poetry from Chris Cornell. In my opinion, very few CAN give this song the life it’s meant to. A strong vocalist like David Draiman, Serj Tankian, Aaron Lewis, Myles Kennedy, Brent Smith. Singers that deliver each lyric with unparalleled depth and emotion. Amazing arrangement, Atreyu. And thank you for the astonishing vocals, Mr. Saller.
Atreyu has been one of my favorite bands for a couple of decades now and I've had the pleasure of seeing them in concert a few times over the years with and without Alex. Most recently in Denver where Brandon was back on drums and vocals. They are perhaps one of the only bands I feel is just as strong without the original lead vocalist. I was so pleased that Brandon kept Atreyu going when Alex left, as he's such a great vocalist and entirely capable of leading this band. This cover has just solidified how incredibly talented he is and how much more Atreyu has to offer. This cover literally gave me chills and tears as he struck those iconic notes that Chris Cornell belted out in this song. What an absolutely beautiful rendition, guys. Bravo!
Damn this is one incredible cover. Such incredible power and control in those vocals. Feel like when we get covers like this Chris is giving us all a wink from the great beyond.
For no excusable reason, I haven't followed Atreyu since their second album, and I've always had a special place in my heart for them as they got me through the harder times of my Marine Corps journey. I can't believe how insane their musicianship has grown when this popped on my feed, and how incredibly played with such emotion! It's insane how fast 20 years have passed since The Curse, how fast the band has all grown up, and how heart breaking it is that we've lost such an icon in music with Chris Cornell how quickly his life had passed. Thank you for this, that was a wild ride.
I was looking for a DIFFERENT Atreyu song, and this song title autopopulated in the search bar, and I was so certain it was an error. Realizing it was a legit cover was already kind of a shock, but imagine how fast the rug was pulled out from under me seeing it was uploaded TWO HOURS AGO!
I don't think many artists could do proper justice to such a beautiful song, while still making it their own... but you did. This hits every emotion all at once. Bravo, gents. Absolutely beautiful.
I saw Thrice open for Atreyu, open for Deftones back in 2007 and Atreyu totally stole the show. They had this huge stage on hydraulic lifts with pyrotechnics and everything. I was insane. The drum kit lifted up to about 20ft off the stage and fireworks started firing off the back and Alex fucking jumped off the top after a big pause for the kick-off scream in Right Side of the Bed. Best show I've ever seen.
Beautiful voice brother. Took me back to my early teen days when I was listening/ discovering new artists in Rock/Metal. I instantly clicked with Chris's songs. R.I.P. to the fallen legends ❤🤘
Chris’ music meant a lot to me. Still does. One of the few celebrity losses that got to me emotionally. To hear the passion and feeling in this cover tells me these guys felt the same. This version tells its own story and that some true, deep connection to the listener. No easy task on a song you didn’t write. Truly amazing. I will admit, other than the name I know nothing of this band. That will change tonight. Well done. True masterpiece. Keep sharing the emotions through your music and I will keep listening. Thanks for putting this out
By far the most beautiful cover of this song. I was a little scared of how the solo would turn out with an acoustic guitar, absolutely beautiful. I just cant get enough. I can literally see amd feel the passion on emotion!!!
I obviously didn’t actually know Chris Cornell. But since i was very little his music spoke to me. I was a loner kid and i genuinely felt like he was the only person who saw me. No one else i knew cared about his music like I did and i felt like alone in my connection, like his work was under appreciated. His passing was hard for me… and this cover really… felt like it got the soul of him. As i tuned out the world and sang along at the top of my lungs, it felt a lot like i had my friend back. I know all too well that it’s all the machination of a lonely soul… but thank you all the same.
Atreyu becoming one of the legend. Thank you for all the art & music all these years. You guys one of the ‘pathway’ (for me) to begin to like metal from my early years. Thank you
I have been a Chris Cornell fan pretty much my entire life. I’ve also got “Live, Love, Burn, Die” tattooed between my shoulders and have been a fan of Atreyu for just as long. Cannot convey how pleased I am with this phenomenal cover.
On a cobweb afternoon In a room full of emptiness By a freeway I confess I was lost in the pages Of a book full of death Reading how we'll die alone And if we're good, we'll lay to rest Anywhere we want to go In your house, I long to be Room by room, patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone And on my deathbed I will pray To the gods and the angels Like a pagan to anyone Who will take me to heaven To a place I recall I was there so long ago The sky was bruised The wine was bled And there you led me on In your house, I long to be Room by room, patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone And on I read Until the day was gone And I sat in regret Of all the things I've done For all that I've blessed And all that I've wronged In dreams until my death I will wander on In your house, I long to be Room by room, patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone
One of the best Covers i've ever heard, great tribute to Chris who would have enjoyed it with love and respect, just walked to this song in repeat for 2 hours to the streets of my hometown when it came out to get my head clear of the final battle with my Mom's cancer, it hurts a lot inside, this song helps me through, thanks a lot Atreyu for this...😎🤟🏻
I’m having flashbacks of my 2 older brothers and I blasting this CD in the car every where we went. This song always give me chills even as an adult it hits differently. The news about Chris Cornell crushed us. The night before it happened, I was listening to this album.
I heard this yesterday for the first time on SiriusXM yesterday morning and I cried it’s such a beautiful tribute to Chris Cornell! I once again cried this morning when I listen to it great job!❤ Chris Cornell would be pleased
This whole album was such a huge part of my childhood. One of if not my favorite album of all time. And over time its just gained so much more meaning for me as I go through more shit and hard times in life. Good cover, justice done to a legend
We cannot sleep on this, y’all. Oh. My. God. This is amazing. Absolutely beautiful vocals and music. I’d give my left leg to see these guys perform this live. Thank you Atreyu for this masterpiece ❤️
Wow just wow I'm honestly blown away by this man's voice and what an amazing and respectful tribute and version of one of Chris's best song's, CHRIS WE MISS AND RESPECT YOU SO MUCH
Thanks, Atreyu, for covering a classic. Rest in peace, Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington.
I couldn't have said it better myself. 🔥

Did chester help produce this song or something? I know Chris and him were friends. But like..
@@shawnainesworth1608 , I'm pretty sure he gave Atreyu the inspiration spiritually.
@@MetalClown1974what 😂
This song hits harder when you realize he's talking about Death and not somebody he loves
That’s why it’s hits harder, knowing Chris was singing about it. Then sadly we lost it
Even harder that it’s about longing for death through suicide.
I like to think that Chris wrote it potentially about both love and death. And the idea of doing anything to end the pain this life unfortunately contained for him sadly making the end necessary. But he knows love is an eternal force that he’ll wait alone forever to have again.
And Show me how to live... Hardest riff in rock. Also lyricwise

The vocal progression Brandon has made from 20 years ago until now is insane.
So true!
I was born December of 1970. Went to local bar. My bartender said they were great. They are wonderful and amazing.❤❤🎉🎉
You aren't kiddin! I just started listening to them again. I really only knew a few songs from way back like Demonolgy and heartache
Yes the voice matures in beautiful ways sometimes.
RIGHT? These guys are so under rated and have so much natural raw talent! This was an amazing tribute!
Like a Stone is one of the greatest rock songs ever, in my opinion.
So true❤
You're right, but not sung in this mood and with this voice. It's like a joke.
And you are absolutely right

Love that fuckin song
I just lost my wife to cancer this past month. I know in my heart she would've loved this.
I'm sorry for your loss man. May God give you peace
Sorry to hear that. You have my well wishes, I know it must be hard. ❤
Your wife had great taste in music ❤
Sorry for your loss keep your head up knowing she’s hopefully in a better place without pain
Sorry buddy
Lyrics:
On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good, we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
And on my death bed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone

The guitar playing really reminds me of “Congregation of the Damned” and that’s beautiful
This is one of the best covers I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Great job, fellas.
New album I'm so excited
Can't wait for more bangers
Atreyu becoming one of the legend. Thank you for all the art & music all these years. You guys one of the ‘pathway’ (for me) to begin to like metal from my early years. Thank you
I have been a Chris Cornell fan pretty much my entire life. I’ve also got “Live, Love, Burn, Die” tattooed between my shoulders and have been a fan of Atreyu for just as long. Cannot convey how pleased I am with this phenomenal cover.
On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good, we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
And on my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on
In your house, I long to be
Room by room, patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
Beautiful!!
One of the best Covers i've ever heard, great tribute to Chris who would have enjoyed it with love and respect, just walked to this song in repeat for 2 hours to the streets of my hometown when it came out to get my head clear of the final battle with my Mom's cancer, it hurts a lot inside, this song helps me through, thanks a lot Atreyu for this...😎🤟🏻
R.I.P Chris 🌹❤️
He made this for next generations ✌️
I’m having flashbacks of my 2 older brothers and I blasting this CD in the car every where we went. This song always give me chills even as an adult it hits differently. The news about Chris Cornell crushed us. The night before it happened, I was listening to this album.

Ballsy but Brandon pulled it off. What a vocal monster. And Dan's guitar is badass

Damn son, I bought his album the day it was released. Are we this old
There are people who can legally buy alcohol today who were not alive when this song was released. Same with Lip Gloss and Black. It’s wild.
Yes brother we are lol
