(WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go awry. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. There are programs that pay for your housing and schooling when you age out. Some benefit from it and make something of themselves. But there are those who don't make good with the money and end up in not so favorable positions
Some great foster parents treat their foster children like their own, and allow them to stay, and help them with their education. Unfortunately, the government checks for their care, ends at 18! Lots of people house foster children, simply for the money!
I think it depends on the system. My friend aged out when I was still in HS and they paid for her apartment/schooling/expenses for a good amount of time after 18. We’d always go to her apt because she was the first one to have her own place.

As a retail manager. I’ve had plenty of people with a permanent home who were unreliable. So not having a permanent address doesn’t indicate whether you are reliable or not.
Imo if you are in that position, you would take that job way more seriously knowing what's on the line.

Also this set up is a bit silly. A foster kid about to age out of the system would use their current address as their permanent address and then just change it if/when they got the job and had to move out of the foster home.
I aged out of foster care in Arizona and it was horrible. I was given black trash bags, and 3 bus passes. It was terrifying but I was very fortunate to have amazing friends around me. I now own my own business and would immediately have offered her a job. I know how it feels to just need someone to NOT think you’re completely worthless.
That is amazing!!! Everything about the foster care system is horrifying. Some foster families are good but a lot are not. There really is no safe place for kids to go when they are removed from their home. Often times, foster kids end up in worse situations than they left. It is broken broken broken and these are OUR CHILDREN. We need huge reform especially since states can essentially contract out their entire foster care system to FOR PROFIT orgs. These companies then take the bare resources and cut them down further so they can turn a profit. It is sick and it should be criminal. It should be criminal, because what happens to these kids as a result, is criminal!

Unfortunately, the problem is so vast and complicated, it makes it easier to stop caring and become jaded and/or apathetic because the problem is just SO big it feels hopeless, which leads to more indifference and less people willing to care for others. It totally sucks. Seriously keeps me up at night thinking about kids like yourself who were in or are in foster care. Abused children should not be used to turn a profit, it is effing insane.

It’s sad that there are many children growing up in foster care having nothing but bad experiences. All they want is to have a family that loves them and feel that they are as loving. But sometimes, that doesn’t happen therefore shaping their lives and personalities that affect the rest of their lives in a negative way. So when I say I’m proud of what you have become due to your circumstances, know that no life is worthless. Just messaging you has a positive impact on my life and I thank you for that. We all meet people either directly or indirectly and we learn from that experience. I hope my words have a similar effect on you. Honestly this one is going to hit me. I was in foster care and when I aged out I was homeless. Hell im still tryn a pick up pieces and get my life together and im 23 now. People don't get how hard it is being a foster kid and growing up and having no one.

I grew up in foster care and am 27 now. This was my reality. Also, the general discrimination not just from jobs but peers and society in general is extreme. They deem foster kids as a lost cause even though most of us were removed from our families bc of our parents and not bc of anything we did. Thank you for this video.
This is why I want to foster older children when I'm older. You're not hopeless; you've been failed by everyone around you. We owe you more and need to do better by you.

Same and I’m 35. I begged for my first job. I had $15 and a bag of clothes when I aged out. Not even enough money for food until my first pay cheque. My new housemate realised and gave me the first 2 weeks of board for free so I could buy food. It was a very isolating and lonely journey. It’s tough having no safety net whatsoever.

Somebody gave you your first shot at some point. Why not give others a chance too.
I lost my home in November of 2018 and had been living in my car with my dog since, parked at a pull-off next to the highway.
One evening the following May, some guy in his 60s pulled over and came up to talk to me. He told me that he worked on a concrete crew, and said that they could use a laborer if I was interested.
I told him I would love to, but I had no experience at all.
He said no problem at all. He gave me $20 for gas, told me he'd meet me back there at 7am and I could follow him to the job site. He even made me a lunch for my first day.
That man was incredible. So many people look down on those that are homeless, without even knowing what put them in that situation to begin with.
I've constantly had strangers call the cops on me for living in my car.
But I've also had that man and one woman offer me a good job, and people have stopped with bags of groceries and have given me money, dog food, toiletries, etc.
Some people out there are absolute shit. But those people I met, and the people we see in this show, are the ones that restore my faith in humanity.

I ran a pre and post emancipation program several years ago. We helped aging out foster youth with housing, life skills, job, college, and tech school applications and helped facilitate access to mental and social services. Didn’t pay much money but it was so spiritually rewarding. These young adults need all the help we can give. Most were abused, molested, or neglected. Please give them a chance and reach out when you can. It will warm your heart.
This hits hard. I was a foster kid. Aged out the system it was my senior year of high school. Had to drop out and try to find a roof over my head and a job. It's not easy when the system doesn't prepare the kids before aging out. I have friends that are now older and have family's of their own and struggled just the same. I'm 49 now. Yes I went back to school at 20 and was able to graduate high school. I made it to collage and became a C.N.A and med tech

I have a friend that was in foster care, and he had such a hard time transitioning from a group home. Its heartbreaking, because they are treated like its their fault they're in foster care when it's not.

Only when the child is truly a psychopath, but then such a child doesn't belong in a group either.

There's times where the child has had behavioural issues and was placed there by the state. I was never in Foster Care but I spent 6 years in and out of group homes and RTF's and I've seen kids who didn't have anyone to rely on and become institutionalized.
So sometimes it is the kid's fault why they're in the situation. But there's too many people that use the system just to get an easy paycheck and it sets them up for failure
♥ If someone's just about to be homeless, and they're actively seeking a job, it's pathetic to turn that person down as they're trying to better their own lives, while at the same time offering to work for your business. All of these people are so awesome. Breaks my heart to learn of how many people are aging out into homelessness... :(
As I've said it before we need NOT these ICE rades. Children of illegals need NOT be in cages. Legal born U.S. citizens whom need NOT have kids cost us far far far far far more of a tax $ drain on our society because of what happens to their children whom 1) we have to house them as minors and 2) as this situation brings to our overlooked attention we often dump them off as garbage as adults. I mean typical upper middle class suburban parents DON'T say to their kids you're 18/19 years old good bye. What I can say is sadly 70% of foster kids and up a drain on our society. 30% turn out okay. I'm in the 30%. In these past 15 years my life hasn't been perfect by any stretch of the imagination I've experienced homlesness. But I have NOT been involved in drugs or alcohol I have NOT been in and out of jail I have NOT negligently impregnated women. Sadly it seems 7 out of 10 do they end up drug addicts they end up in and out of jail they become pregnant with 4 kids if they are female or negligently impregnate 4-6 females if we're talking about males. Which cost the system a shit ton of money. It's just a sad cycle. Now at the age of 34 I'm old enough to have a perception 18/19 year old ( kid's) yes legal adults BUT it's NOT as if they're going to know the ends and outs of how the world works. We DIDN'T at that age even tho of course we all though ( I got this) that's only so true. Biggest problem with foster kids they are NOT form a typical upper middle class family they DON'T have parents to come to thier aid if they screw up at 20 years old. Like I said only 3 out of 10 of us from that situation turn out okay. And thats NOT a statistic we should be proud of nor aspire too. Does that sound like a developed country?

I've literally been homeless and still managed to be one of the most reliable employees at the place I was working at the time. They didn't hold it against me and even helped me. Knowing this scenario happens IRL is HORRIBLE!! Love the people who stood up for this young girl, scenario or not. We need more people like them in the world to spread more love and positivity.
That's rare tho most able bodied homeless people are just bums who don't wanna work hard
My mom was raped by her father and when he went to prison and her mom wasn’t around she went into foster care at a really young age and never got out with some horrible foster families and struggled most her life trying to give me and my sister the best it’s so touching to me to get to see how things might of been for her at this age and I’m so happy that even if this was just an experiment these people had the kindest hearts💞

Completely different situation but it's kinda like when homeless people try to get jobs. No address is a problem for the application unfortunately. I'm so thankful these people were so kind and helpful.

I don't see why address is a factor in getting a job. If they want to know whether someone is reliable, they can call references.

As someone in foster care, I can confirm this is accurate. I turn eighteen this year and I'm so nervous. You can't get a job without an address and you can't get an address without a job🤦 seventeen and I'm already applying to homeless shelters because most of them are either first come first serve, or have a several month waiting period for permanent residence 😒
I'm so sorry hun 💔, are there any youth employment centers in your city? Some of them have partnerships with companies and do hiring fairs. I hope it works out.
Do you have enough money to get a box at a UPS Store??? Yes I mean UPS. Don't scew with the post office. You can get them for 30 days 60 day 90 day 6 months or 1 year. Prices very slightly by location I pay $375/ year. I don't think you're in my city. But I get $10 credit off my bill if I refer a friend. BUT UPS Store if you're able. Which I hope you are. I hope things work out for you. I hope this works for you if nessasary. Spend less the $200 ( I hope you have that) and you'll have a legal address for the next 6 months if you're able to do less then $400 you'll have an address for about a year. Like I said the prices very spacificly depending on ware you are exactly. They are cheaper overall the longer time you request to rent the box

@@elidabarba shelters are places they send people for stealing bread from Wal-Mart because they don't have room in the jail. They're NOT for people actually attempting to have a normal life. We unfortunately DON'T have help adiquit help for people in the U.S.
It's not the most moral advice but just lie about your address, put down any random but realistic address. The vast majority of employers don't even check that you went to a certain school or had a certain job (depends on the job) so when it comes to living arrangements they won't even notice if you throw down a random address. Most places pay in direct deposit or checks so having a bank account is far more important, sadly most apartment require 3 months of rent so it's better in the short term to find a friend with a couch who can help you until you get the money for a permanent place.

I was a victim of foster care. I was in foster care for about a year and a half but I found a family who would be happy to adopt a 16 year old like me. I’m so great full and blessed

I’m 26 and can’t have children of my own. Where I’m from in Ireland it is very difficult to foster, but it is in my ten year plan to try :) I would love to help a teen in need

It just seems to me that someone in her situation would be THE MOST reliable because she wouldn't want to lose the job because it is all she has. Plus, it would be good for her to establish connections, maybe even find work friends. Sad that our system doesn't help these kids who age out.

When I lost my job, got divorced and was applying for 100s of jobs a week I wish I had come across people like this. People aren’t even saying I will get you an interview but an actual job. Crazy
I actually cried watching this because this hits home. Having no family is unfair but sometimes you have to stay strong for your self cause that’s all you have.
Suck it up you're not special, lots of us with family's for abusive families so if you're able bodied and broke you're just lazy, maybe get rid of the victim mentality

This show is kind of a big relief - the social response of many people is kind and positive. We always say what a horrible world it is but it cannot all be so terrible if people are this compassionate and understanding.
This one broke my heart in more than one way and really touched home. It is in fact discrimination and should not be allowed. I will continue to help and guide those in situations like this just as someone guided me

I think this is one of the most heart warming things I’ve seen on this show! All these kind hearted people doing this for a girl they don’t even know. I find it sad that there are people out there who don’t have certainty on where they will live in the future, one of the reasons I’d want to adopt someone from the foster system. No matter who they are they deserve a chance at life
Bless those people, I grew up in foster care and I wasn't allowed around to some of my friends houses as their parents assumed that there must have been something wrong with me, it was a rural area where people had money, stuck-up gits most of them.

I was a foster child. It’s not easy being a foster child. I can really understand this situation as I’ve been it through it before. It’s so sad how judgemental and cruel people can be. This really made me cry.

I'm glad WWYD shined some attention on this very important issue. Someone moving in with a friend until they find permanent housing though would probably just list the friend's address under residence, instead of writing nothing as their contact address.

To everyone in foster care
When you turn of the minimum age of working I suggest you get one it’s much easier to apply and you can save up as soon as you age at of the system

Because we have people in our society who actually believe that chocolate milk comes from Brown cows. And being as stupid as they are they somehow managed to manipulate themselves into some position of semi authority. How they did it is a mystery. But since they are stupid enough to start milking a brown cow with the anticipation chocolate milk will come out they are stupid enough to assume failer from her unfortunately
I’ve dealt with this exact issue while looking for a job in care and been called unreliable and refused employment. Watching this brought back memories and it’s extremely hard to be refused something just because of your background 😥
I myself have been in this position being someone who's been through foster care and I can tell you that being a foster child weather aging out of the system or being kicked out of a toxic household I have had plenty of job applications in which were denied because I was going to be homeless and even specific services denied because of my lack of income so I feel this all too much.

this one made me break down. I feel like I've never truly realized how rough it must be for those in the system to move on once they hit that age. I'm in a confusing place where I feel overwhelmed with all the changes, so to imagine not having a support system I just can't begin to comprehend how difficult that must be, yet so many are forced to.

This hits close to home. I was in foster care and was adopted “late”, so this could’ve been me in a few years. I would’ve offered a place to stay in a heartbeat. No questions no second thoughts.

I have been in foster care and I came home to my family but it's heart touching to see this kind of thing and I'm glad there are good people that are that kind.
