I've never been this early! Emma, I'm 51(an old lady) and I think you are one of the most intelligent, well-read and well-spoken creators on this platform. You are so lovely and a joy to watch. I truly hope one day you can flee the city and move to someplace that inspires you. I'd like to tell you to settle for nothing less than that bc tho you're young, you'll be older in no time. It flies by! I, like you, love nature. A year ago(after 4 yrs of planning and saving) my husband moved us to Maine which was a lifelong dream. I'm in the forest now surrounded by trees and it's been overall the best decision, tho not without it's hard parts. We moved from a city in the Midwest where I'd lived for 30 years. I really hated it...the noise, the concrete, the congestion, lack of green spaces. All my life I have been so drawn to Maine with the ocean, mountains and trees. My love of Stephen King's books sparked this from the time I was 10. I wish for you many years of contentment and peace ahead. You deserve ALL the good days and wonderful people and memories, glaciers and forests, flowers and the seasons in all their glory. Keep being you with your beautiful soul. There are great days ahead filled with what you love. ❤❤❤
You’re so inspiring! I’m so happy for you and your dreams came true ❤ This comment is so warming. By the way, I assume you are not an OLD lady! You’re just a lady, without any “old”! I’m working with a woman of 51 y.o. and you know what, she is the most energetic and adventurous woman that I know in my life 😄 I hope you’re enjoying your life now and will be doing it for a long years more (sorry if my language bad sometimes)
@@yennefella1222 You are too kind!! It's crazy bc though I'm 51, I feel like I'm 15 in spirit. It's just a crazy thing getting older but it's a normal part of life and so I embrace it.
Something I find strangely comforting is that in almost every classic I read there are characters who express some feeling of “what has the world become”. It’s a reminder that there have always been people who look up one day and struggle to recognize the world around them. This sense of dislocation and disillusionment, which is so lonely and painful, must be universal. Maybe we seem prone to thinking of our experience as unprecedented because, for us as individuals, it is. But each generation has had to adapt to some kind of change. Yes, we grapple with new technology and ideas of progress in our own way-often from a position of moral superiority-and must deal with the consequences, for better or worse. But I think it’s beautiful that the fundamental questions remain the same. How do I truly connect with others? Who and what am I responsible for in this world? There’s a lot of hope in Forster’s resolution: “Only connect”. But I don’t think “political correctness” is itself what’s keeping us from connecting. I can’t imagine the pressures of being a content creator and having a huge platform, but the whole moral panic around “cancel culture” seems to thrive on appropriating our natural fear of judgement and directing it at each other when we should be looking at the systems that really benefit from reducing people to labels. The corporations who define us as consumers; the politicians who weaponize our human rights to gain voters; the institutions that profit from pathologizing us. Thanks for another great video Emma! I hope you know how valued you are in the book community 💕💕💕
Emma, we love you so much, and your cats too. At the end of your video, my little dog rolled over on her back and said, "relax, nothing is under control." I'm supposed to tell you that. She usually quotes Shakespeare: "Thou call'st me dog before thou hadst a cause, but since I am a dog, beware my fangs." Pets can be so dramatic.
41 minute long video from emma is all I wanted. And yes, pretty sure I'll still watch your videos even if it was a black screen and with you just talking. ❤
Emma I swear your ads are the only ones I never skip because you make me cackle each time lol On another note, I adored House of the Spirits but I was also lucky enough to read it before One Hundred Years of Solitude so the comparisson never really occured to me and I wasn't holding it to any other standard. I think the reason I love it so much is my personal background and that of my family, who is mostly Chilean. A lot of what made me really connect with the story and the characters comes from growing up fully immersed in the culture and history, and learning about the dark parts of it since I was a child. I see House of the Spirits more like a historical fiction novel with smudges of magical realism rather than a work of it like One Hundred Years of Solitude is. What moves Allende's story to me is more re-telling parts of real history through her characters and making a sort of portrait of Chilean society at the time, especially by giving voice to many voiceless people (farm workers, women, leftist militants, etc.). At least to me that's the value of it and why I loved it so much ❤
I get the feeling you worry alot about what people think when they see and listen to you. You don't need to worry. You are very well spoken, creative and just plain fun. You don't really have to do anything but talk about what you care about. Some people are just lucky this way so enjoy it and stay who you are because that's what has brought us all to watch and listen to you. (and I'm not sure what you think is wrong on this particular day because you are beautiful). I'm 68 and spent my of my life worried what people thought of me to the point where the anxiety took over my life. I wouldnt' want that for anyone. Just be you and it's enough.
I personally feel that The House of the Spirits means so much to me as a Chilean, and I consider it such a good book because of the social context in which the story takes place. I feel very reflected in terms of my genealogy with what the characters experience, especially the final part, which is so intense but represents a dark side of my country that I constantly remember. I think that perhaps feeling reflected in the story's social context can influence your perception of the book a bit? idk, maybe thats why i love the book so much, i dont know if that makes any sense. Great videoo emmie i love your vlogs💓
Im right there with you. I’m not from Chile, but I’m Hispanic. The House of the Spirits will always be top 5 of the books of my life. I’ve made so many people read it… that I cannot help it, it hurts when someone doesn’t appreciate it 😢
House of the Spirits is forever a favorite. I did read it in Spanish and maybe there is something lost in the translation. But now I am excited to read more of GGM. I have read and loved his short stories so I have a high bar set for his novels. Thank you for your reviews ❤❤
Emma, I was very moved by what you said about being in your twenties. Such an important time and hard to get your head around. My daughter is in her 20s and we have been talking about what it means. What you said really resonates with what my daughter has been saying. You've got it, girls, and it's not "IT" just yet. Whether it is a good thing or not, we keep growing and developing till the day we die and I myself sometimes feel that I am faking adulting, and I am 61 :)
Emma, watching your videos is like sitting down with a dear friend over tea, books, and life. I'd watch blackscreen videos of yours, but there is so much magic in your expressions, gestures, the way you do average things like play with tying up hair, pour tea, open and close books while you speak. These Emma-isms are pure charm. They make the videos feel like visiting with a Friend, vs watching someone talking to a camera teuing to connect but not quite there... I've just re-entered the world of reading and, at 64 --- because of you --- I'm beginning a big classics adventure starting with Anna Karenina. Got my classics tbr list, and hope to connect in the fable groups.I've either read what you're reading or did not have enough time to get on library loan list to catch the latest read. Much love to you from the other side of the Falls, Central NY.
Im just a random passerby that has seen a few of your videos. I like your personality and energy, so I would have no issue watching a blank screen and hearing you talk about anything, really. The sense of being "misplaced" or "lost" in time is something that reminds me of my trip to Mexico when I was five. Having lived in the rural Californian countryside, I existed in a pocket of life where not much changes at all. Then suddenly my family went on a trip back to their little village for Christmas. It wasn't a culture shock more than it was an era shock. The village had no running water, no electricity, no gas, nothing that ran on those things, no telephones, and only a few kids. While there, I got lost following a herd of goats, had molten plastic dripped onto my thumb by the bigger kids, ran roof top to roof top on wooden beams, and saw maybe one of the last Posadas of the little village before many of the people abonded it for the big city. If I didn't hear the stories from my family and vividly remember it all, it would have seemed a dream. A lost fragment of time in my memories.
I've not read this book but I feel that one of the reasons reading a diverse range of genres and from different places helps is that it shows that while we might fundamentally want the same things for ourselves and our loved ones, the way we're perceived and treated in the world is based on a set of arbitrary physical and cultural distinctions that most of us can never escape from. Humanizing the dehumanized should be something every decent person should agree on and I've frequently got that compassionate and empathetic vibe from you to know you can understand this on deeper level.
Perfect timing. The past three weeks have been the worst of my life, and though I'm doing better I am home alone for the first time in a while, and watching your video was just the perfect way to occupy my mind and enjoy my time alone without feeling low. I also just read The Ministry of Time and loved to hear your thoughts on it. My favorite part was the beginning when they got to know each other and 1847 got to know modern times. I'd love a whole book just with them navigating this new situation and him both finding the fun in 2024 and feeling every feeling about losing his own time and the people in it. No need for the big conspiracies, I just want the characters.
Ah lovely that’s so rough, sending you all the good things coming your way🩵 and yes 100% agree with you, I think the small day to day was really all that was needed to get the concept across
Not the battle music when Calcifer and Grendel were playing! 😂 The Ministry of Time seems like an interesting book, sounds like it gives you a lot to think about. Definitely adding it to my TBR.
Hei Emma, I like seeing you in the videos and, to be honest, no one notices the "flaws" you point out other than yourself. The rest of us just enjoy seeing you talk to us and both your voice and your appearance are warm and calming 😊
Your videos are always beautiful and crafted with love. No matter where you are headspace wise or life wise, never doubt that you do something for the souls of us here watching you. You inspire and nurture us through your presence and honesty. I truly adore you and your cats. You’re doing a fantastic job at life.
emma you sold me on adding the ministry of time to my tbr. i have heard other people say that they didn't like it or that it was boring but i think i was just listening to people who don't have the same taste as me. for everything you said, it sounds right up my alley.
I recently finished The Fellowship, and just started reading The Two Towers myself, and I am loving LOTR. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your channel Emma! I appreciate the fact that you are not afraid to be yourself on camera. And that is so refreshing and comforting to see, after feeling like I could never be myself around other people. You are truly inspiring! God Bless you!✝
I haven't even read The Ministry of Time, and avoid hype like the plague, but seeing the way it moved you and the way you reflected on the complexities and perils of our time made me cry. Idk about the book but this video was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dear 41:27 Nikki, So beautifully stated! I'm originally from Boston, MA, (now residing in Los Angeles), and I was thrilled to hear your love of Maine. The autumn in the Northeast are simply unmatched, and there is space to breathe. I wish you continued happiness, great books, lovely seaside days.and glorious autumn colors! And by the way, you're not old by any means! I'm 62, and I feel like I'm on to new adventures! Be well, Trish. 💕💕
It's so wonderful, isn't it? Starting over is not easy at all buy anything worth doing rarely is. I hope you're enjoying LA and soaking up the sun! Yes, the Autumn here is just unreal. We moved in October of last year so the trees were in full color. Thank you for your kind comment. ❤❤
@@nikkivenable73 It truly is wonderful. I'll be retiring in 2027, so another chapter will unfold. I'm really looking forward to filling some days with reading; I've always wanted to try a readathon! 😄 Oh, you arrived in Maine at the perfect time! Autumn is so beautiful, the vibrant hues, the crisp scent in the air is so invigorating yet comforting. I'm fortunate to have family in Oregon, where I can get my foliage "fix." It's sunny here in L.A., and I live near the beach, so am evading the summer heat for now. Hope you have a great weekend! Take care. 💕💕☕☕

@@nikkivenable73 Same here, Nikki, if I don't have a book with me, I feel something is missing! I think you'd love Oregon, mountains, green forests, and a beautiful coast to its north. And of course, the bookstores! All the best, Trish ☕☕📚📚

OMG yes, this idea of not wanting to be perceived resonates too deeply with me😮 I would definitely continue watching you with the black screen and your voice, you could perhaps also choose to do the korean/japanese-silent vlog style content where your torso is visible, you go about your day, you speak and/or add voice-overs!!! Have just started to watch the video and glad to be Emmie's Book Wormie because we relate and resonate❤❤ PS. Love your frames and how your hair frames your face
Dear Emma, I am so happy you opened up about your experience with this book (Ministry of Time). I did not read it. Funny enough I've seen a review on' TH-cam and the person had a completely different experience. I might read it sometimes in the future. Even if you did not talk a lot about it, I think I feel similar about the 'period' that we are in. I am always struggling between two mindset. One is that I am grateful to live as a 25 y.o woman in the country that I was born in (France). 60 years ago things would have been restricting to say the least. I might struggle everyday as an autistic (and queer) person but I think we have made clear we want a place in society and it is legitimate. On the other hand, social media, consumerism, city life, desk job, never felt sometimes I could fit into. I feel extremely isolated and maybe it is my incomprehension of others that makes me feel like that. But I feel like people are playing a 'game' I'd rather not. I also get what you mean about the carefulness people have to use and especially on the internet. I love getting into debate and I love getting to know pple's arguments or point of view. But the way things get so heated up very quickly irl and on the internet makes it hard to actually debate with others. Anyway, I might read the MoT, I I'll be cool because I've never read a time traveling book. Again thank you for your beautiful and honest content on this platform!
Came back to rewatch this vlog because I've just finished The Ministry of Time (per your recommendation), and OHMYGOD 10/10, best book of the year. Thank you!!! And how fun to watch you read it now that I've loved it as much as you did.
Hi Emma, ngl I've been subscribed to u since 2020, but kinda skipped on most vids for the past year due to poor mental health.... but now im trying to get back into reading and watching ur videos really really helps ❤
Liked within the first several seconds - I had the feeling of not wanting to be perceived before filming a video this morning. Thank you for sharing such wonderful lines of writing. Truly beautiful.
The way you’ve talked about The Ministry of Time makes me want to read it so badly. Beautiful, deep reflections there, Emma. I relate deeply! I wish we human beings can come back to speaking truly and honestly and genuinely and live that way, rather than the performative way that is based on fear and judgement. I wish that we could care for each other again.
Some very cinematic cat violence today 🐈 Oooh and the Ministry of Time sounds so good! Going straight onto my tbr now, I just love any kind of literature that makes me think conceptually about history
i LOVE that line about playing Bach on repeat as being "disrespectful"! need to read it just for that. there's a similar conversation in one of my fav books, "The Midwich Cuckoos", also with the sense that they're not just talking about classical music and tech, but something more fundamental...
this video might be a new favourite on your channel❤ the way you talked about ministry of time!! i have not read the book, but i feel seen by it already. lots of love from ukraine!
hi emmie ily I just read the ministry of time bc of this vlog and I’m now in excruciating pain also in tears, to add. U MADE THIS BOOK LOOK SO FUN (tbf I didn’t watch to the very end of the video i just went and excitedly read it which i now will)😭😭😭 I’M IN PAIN 😭 update: I watched your last clips of this vlog and I wish I watched this before reading 😀🙏
Came for the LotR content, stayed for the cat content. Seriously, this channel could just be Calcifer and Grendel and I'd still watch every minute of it.
Dear Emma, your musings in your final review of The Ministry of Time reminded of the poetry of Brazilian poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade, which I've read recently. "Here is the grim, the widower, the inconsolable, the crow, the never-more, the come too late to a world too old." (this is a free translation by me; I'm not sure if it exists in English). Drummond's poetry talks of the exhaustion and inhumanity brought upon us by modernity, by fast worldwide communication, by weapons of mass destruction, by the automatization of the simplest tasks. It was written over 50 years ago but I find it hauntingly relevant. I'm not sure if you like reading poetry, but if you do, I would very much recommend him. Thank you for your passionate and thoughtful account of your experience with this book. It's right up there in my TBR!
We was going deep at the end! 🤔 I love that the book had such an impact on you that it really got you thinking about so much, I love when a form of art can ignite that critical thinking and make us look at modern life and daily habits almost in a new lens again. I definitely felt the weight of the book spoken in the start and end of this video. Aside from TH-cam I no longer use social media because I do agree with you with the pressures and paranoia it places on people and that public perception is incredibly draining. Some days you don’t want to be viewed for every visible moment of your life and being critiqued on every detail of it. I can’t imagine on your level as a content creator and the para social relationship it creates for so many and the perception people have on you- both positive and negative- and the way that can effect your mental health on the regular. But just giving some good vibes and respect to you for entertaining so many and making them feel closer and like they have their own community through a book channel about books, life, thoughts, feelings and some cats along the way. 🫂
Your thoughts of the book at the end of the video were very touching and deep. Honestly, the risk of comments not being pretty might be worth your thoughts. It’s valuable
Wow! This video (especially the end) felt so intense and enlightening in the scariest way and I mean that as a compliment. Im buying the book. I have to read it.
I have the same thoughts about being perceived and being misunderstood (that's why I started a podcast instead of a TH-cam channel) but I salute your courage of being here and also being consistent. I love your videos ❤ Also, that eyeliner is on point!
Awesome video Emma! I feel like I always add books to my TBR after watching your videos hahaha. I'll have to check "The Ministry of Time" out! Also... yes... it is always the orange cats that crave violence XD
Emma, this was such a beautiful video. From what you said, it seems like The Ministry of Time approaches many important issues that are in our minds right now... many things under the umbrella of how it is to live in this world sorrounded by machines, internet, lack of social interaction, lack of attachment to nature and to what is real, and all of the repercussions of these things. It is almost impossible to me not to have a romantic mentality that things *had* to be better in the past.. somewhere in the past. But maybe not. But now, I just wanted to say that you are an amazing person. I'm really glad of being able to hear your beautiful thoughts.
I wish you nothing but the absolute best, Emma! You deserve the best of the world and I hope you can get to do everything you want so soon! ❤ I’d watch your videos in any way, shape or form!❤ btw thank you for making me want to read The ministry of time!
Watching this while I prep and settle in for my own 24 (or 36?) hour readathon this weekend 😊 it’s 107 here in Arizona right now; I wish we could get some rain. Thank you for a wonderful video as always, Emma! You piqued my interest about Ministry of Time. And I feel you about struggling to get out of bed sometimes. You are not alone 🫶
When I first watched The Girl and Her Cat, I was also put off by how the cat was perceiving his owner - found out after the fact that Shinkai made that anime for a girl he was in love with at the time to encourage her to get over some of the difficulties she was going through at the time, which explains all of the weird, un-catlike and borderline pervy behavior the cat exhibits, especially when you take into consideration that in that original anime, Shinkai himself voices the cat. (The manga you read is based on the anime, like all of Shinkai's manga is.) I find that Shinkai in general has a thing for Women Suffering Beautifully and men of various relations to them Perceiving Them and Being There For Them, which to me always reads like some sort of male fantasy fulfillment and is one of the reasons I don't like him very much 😅 Anyway, thought you might be interested in that tidbit of information.
I just noticed you have that green leaf bowl that you put the food in for your cat, and I used to have the same one for the bunny I used to have, it was for water. He would knock it over all the time, it just reminded me of him
I watched the Lord of the Rings for the first time recently because of Game of Tomes! Hoping to read the books in December after I finish the current series I'm reading. Much love to you Emma ❤
Crazy timing, I just finished the Ministry of Time this morning! I didn't love it quite as much as you did (the humor didn't click with me) but there were definitely some killer lines in there like the one you pointed out: "There is something vengeful about agreeing on an interpretation."
Yo I'm not even gonna lie I've always appreciated your book recommendations and videos in general. I'm probably not the only one with a huge crush on you haha. Keep up the awesome videos, even when things don't seem to be going well. Those moments pass :)
Emma please try the novel version of she and her cat. It is so good and one of my favourite books. And it also has other stories set around the same neighbourhood with other cats.
I feel the same way about not wanting to be perceived and fearing being misunderstood. I struggle with this every day. I'm so afraid of people judging me and putting labels on me. To be honest, your videos wouldn't feel as personal if you stopped showing your face. We love to look at your beautiful face as much as we love to hear your thoughts. I'm glad that you don't talk about topics that divide people, that is why your channel became a safe space for everyone. Nowadays, it seems like every public figure talks about politics. You can express your opinion without using "buzzwords" and talking about "hot topics" and I adore that about you. Sending lots of hugs from Hungary.🤍
i think you'll love Time Shelter by Gheorghi Gospodinov (a Bulgarian author), also deals with time travel and how different times can dialogue and people going through multiple times trying to find the best one for their identity.
I read She and Her Cat as a novellised version. Actually, listened to it as a audiobook. I also found the "lover" element a bit weird and initially had a similar reaction to it like you did - underwhelmed . However, strangely, it grew on me with a delay and left a very warm cozy aftertaste that is still lingering.
I'd say so much, but my soul is so tired. So watching this last part all I can say is...yes. And now I'm crying. All the best and please take care of each other ❤
About the Two Towers... Once I did this thing while reading ( not the first time, obviously) in which I read first the storyline of Rohan and such and after finishing it all I went back and read through the storyline of Frodo and Sam and Gollum. About Ministry of Time... I haven't read it yet. Time travel is not my big thing. I will do it on occasion, mostly for Romance purposes. If I have to offer you one romance that I've read at one point that I recall to this day about Time Travel ( Not Outlander, sorry. Haven't read or watched any of it yet. Keeping that craze out of my life for now.) I recommend Karen Marie Moning's Highlander collection.
I'm trying to comment more on videos I watch since I started a podcast and I like when people tell me what they think of my content. I just wanted to say that I feel the same way when I record my episodes, I feel like everything I say needs to be perfect, or I need to clarify everything so it won't be misunderstood. :/ Thanks for sharing this thoughts with us. I will definitely be reading the book.
Jeez, girl, you made me cry at the end. I must read Ministry of Time, like right now! I want you to know that i see you, i see your struggle, and i see your strength. I also see that you have what it takes to get through this awkward stage of adulthood. I don't want to do the whole "when i was your age" thing ... so I'll say this. Im 2 years away from 50 and i am sorry this is the world we are handing to you. I think we assumed the technology was going to be a net benefit to mankind, but i see that it has caused more loneliness than a prison cell ever could. Break free of it. Technology dulls all the human virtues and amplifies all it's vices. If i could set off an EMP i would.
You need a Spoiled By Márquez tee, Emma. 😆 I really needed ro hear your commentary at the end. I dont really have like minded people around me, and I'm so glad to hear you articulate these feelings like this. Thank you ❤
I think I had a similar experience with Isabel Allende - I was excited to try ‘House of the Spirits’, but decided to start with one I already had on my shelf, ‘Long petal of the sea’. It’s hard to put my finger on what I didn’t like because the story was fast-paced and the writing adept, but it just felt dead to me. Maybe the issue was the translation. For whatever reason, despite all the shocking things happening to and around the characters, I couldn’t care about any of them and I was bored. So I’ve lost interest in reading ‘House of the Spirits!’ Sooo pleased you’re having such a wonderful time with lotr, it’s my happy place ☺️

Had never heard that before and it hit me so hard, give your dog all the extra treats for me - where did he get so smart?????
@@emmiereads I have a bad habit of stacking books on the floor. LOL.
41 minute long video from emma is all I wanted. And yes, pretty sure I'll still watch your videos even if it was a black screen and with you just talking. ❤
Emma I swear your ads are the only ones I never skip because you make me cackle each time lol
On another note, I adored House of the Spirits but I was also lucky enough to read it before One Hundred Years of Solitude so the comparisson never really occured to me and I wasn't holding it to any other standard.
House of spirits and Eva Luna are exceptional books. So many vibes. Still on my top reads of all time.
That's so sweet!❤
A long reading vlog from Emma is always a treat ❤
The Ministry of Time seems like an interesting book, sounds like it gives you a lot to think about. Definitely adding it to my TBR.
Hei Emma, I like seeing you in the videos and, to be honest, no one notices the "flaws" you point out other than yourself. The rest of us just enjoy seeing you talk to us and both your voice and your appearance are warm and calming 😊
So agree!
Your videos are always beautiful and crafted with love. No matter where you are headspace wise or life wise, never doubt that you do something for the souls of us here watching you. You inspire and nurture us through your presence and honesty. I truly adore you and your cats. You’re doing a fantastic job at life.
Love this style of vlogging Emma! Especially when you include clips of your cats. Also adding Ministry of Time to my TBR :)
Will definitely incorporate more cat footage!!😊
emma you sold me on adding the ministry of time to my tbr. i have heard other people say that they didn't like it or that it was boring but i think i was just listening to people who don't have the same taste as me. for everything you said, it sounds right up my alley.
Emma, please do a his dark materials reading vlog. I love that series and I really want more people to read it!
Idk about the book but this video was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just did my first 24h readathon and it was so much fun! Now I can sit down and watch your vid ☕️🤍
Hi,
May I ask what your 24 hour reading list was? I've not done a readathon yet, but I want very much to try one.
Thsnk you. 😊
Hehe I know it’s on my watch later list😂❤
Dear 41:27 Nikki,
So beautifully stated!
Be well,
Trish.
@@nikkivenable73
It truly is wonderful. I'll be retiring in 2027, so another chapter will unfold. I'm really looking forward to filling some days with reading; I've always wanted to try a readathon! 😄
Oh, you arrived in Maine at the perfect time! Autumn is so beautiful, the vibrant hues, the crisp scent in the air is so invigorating yet comforting. I'm fortunate to have family in Oregon, where I can get my foliage "fix."
It's sunny here in L.A., and I live near the beach, so am evading the summer heat for now.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Take care. 💕💕☕☕
@@trishnickles2236 I've never done a readathon, either!!! But books are my entire life. If I don't have a book in my hand at some point every day, I'm not happy. Happy reading and leaf peeping in Oregon(a place I've always wanted to visit!)
@@nikkivenable73
Same here, Nikki, if I don't have a book with me, I feel something is missing!
I think you'd love Oregon, mountains, green forests, and a beautiful coast to its north.
And of course, the bookstores!
All the best,
Trish ☕☕📚📚
Emma, what you're talking about in regards to confusing the senses is called Synaesthesia. There are many different forms of it.
I do think all letters/numbers are colours so this checks out😅
@@emmiereads Look up Vladimir Nabokov's synesthesia, he experienced the same thing.
@@emmiereads Yep, that particular form is called Grapheme-colour synaesthesia. Enjoy your deep dive into this new context, my dude 🙂(if now having a word for it is new to you). I have several forms of synaesthesia myself, including spatial sequence synaesthesia, ticker-tape synaesthesia, day-colour synaesthesia, chromesthesia (sound-colour synaesthesia).
Only 3 minutes in and I had to check if I have the video on 1.5 speed!
Chaotic hyper Emma is fantastic :)
OMG yes, this idea of not wanting to be perceived resonates too deeply with me😮
I would definitely continue watching you with the black screen and your voice, you could perhaps also choose to do the korean/japanese-silent vlog style content where your torso is visible, you go about your day, you speak and/or add voice-overs!!!
Have just started to watch the video and glad to be Emmie's Book Wormie because we relate and resonate❤❤
PS.
So happy for this longgg vlog! I really enjoy listening to your thoughts thoroughly 💖
Your love of books and sense of humour are so beautiful. Take care sensitive soul ❤
Finished this book an hour ago. Am sat with clam chowder and naan. I am so ready
Your description of the story in The Ministry of Time sounds so interesting. I'm gonna see if I can give the book a shot!
Just finished "The House of Spirits." Enjoyed it a lot! Looking forward to "As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow". 🙂Happy Canada Day, Emma!
Happy Canada Day? Yikes.
I just found my next read, thanks for sharing!
It sounds like a beautiful book, glad you had a lovely time reading
Well i hope you know you’re perceived as a very beautiful and authentic person whose energy is so comforting and warm!
This is one of my favorite videos you've made. Thank you for the great discussion, it gave me a lot to think.
Your newest video finally inspired me to read my first Gabo until august i think im going to read 100 years of solitude in july 😊❤❤
Some very cinematic cat violence today 🐈
Oooh and the Ministry of Time sounds so good! Going straight onto my tbr now, I just love any kind of literature that makes me think conceptually about history
hi emma! finally started the brothers karamazov and it makes me think of you
i LOVE that line about playing Bach on repeat as being "disrespectful"! need to read it just for that. there's a similar conversation in one of my fav books, "The Midwich Cuckoos", also with the sense that they're not just talking about classical music and tech, but something more fundamental...
this video might be a new favourite on your channel❤ the way you talked about ministry of time!! i have not read the book, but i feel seen by it already. lots of love from ukraine!
Always excited for new video i never miss it , I'm reading Anna Karenina currently wish me luck
I absolutely loved the vibes of this video. And you've made me even more excited to pick up this book!
lol heard emmie’s cat meowing and instinctively started looking around for mine
I love your mind and your words!!! Such a good vlog ❤
hi emmie ily I just read the ministry of time bc of this vlog and I’m now in excruciating pain also in tears, to add. U MADE THIS BOOK LOOK SO FUN (tbf I didn’t watch to the very end of the video i just went and excitedly read it which i now will)😭😭😭 I’M IN PAIN 😭
update: I watched your last clips of this vlog and I wish I watched this before reading 😀🙏
"Here is the grim, the widower, the inconsolable, the crow, the never-more, the come too late to a world too old."
(this is a free translation by me; I'm not sure if it exists in English).
It's right up there in my TBR!
loving this video! 🌻 definitely want to read the ministry of time now!
So lovely, you intrigued me so much, I’ll be reading The Ministry of Time for sure! Beautiful video ❤
"Beforeigners" is a 2019 Norwegian show that's literally the same prospect as the ministry o time, highly recommend it!
Your thoughts of the book at the end of the video were very touching and deep. Honestly, the risk of comments not being pretty might be worth your thoughts. It’s valuable
ahh now im so excited to pick up the ministry of time! all the books you recommend somehow become instant favorites ❤
this is my new favorite video of yours ❤ I love how chatty yet dynamic it is
Hacker Emma is so cool! I love when there are skits in the video!
Just like I needed. Thank u emma ❤❤
I love your videos ❤
Also, that eyeliner is on point!
I loved this video and I think you are a wonderful human!
Woooow I really really need to read that book asap!! Sounds amazing
I love what you said at the end. I feel the same way.
Each video i watch from this channel i tell myself this is me! i love you Emma❤️
(The manga you read is based on the anime, like all of Shinkai's manga is.)
I find that Shinkai in general has a thing for Women Suffering Beautifully and men of various relations to them Perceiving Them and Being There For Them, which to me always reads like some sort of male fantasy fulfillment and is one of the reasons I don't like him very much 😅
Anyway, thought you might be interested in that tidbit of information.
Sending lots of hugs from Hungary.🤍
love watching 24h readathons!!
Don't worry about being perceived by me, or the rest of us. We all adore you, as anyone should 💜
You've also made me add the Ministry to my tbr now.
The last clip. Exactly that ❤️🩹
i think you'll love Time Shelter by Gheorghi Gospodinov (a Bulgarian author), also deals with time travel and how different times can dialogue and people going through multiple times trying to find the best one for their identity.
Emma you are so cute, even when you don’t feel put together! You are so relatable though! At a certain point I give up trying to look “ presentable “
i will now be reading the ministry of time thank you so much emma i love you girl
I'd say so much, but my soul is so tired. So watching this last part all I can say is...yes. And now I'm crying.
All the best and please take care of each other ❤
❤
Sounds like someone is going to read Silvia Federici
"a black screen with just me talking" - I mean that's a podcast, which yes I would absolutely listen to.
Thank you ❤
The book definitely sounds like one I should add to my TBR.....
Almost screamed at the little library! That first book, Blight At The End of the Funnel, is worth like $200
oop
ok i'm grabbing this book right now
You have my full support. Deep breath. Carry on. 🙏🏼
