@@theminuteman3460 if you’re talking about musicianship yes, Led Zeppelin were better musicians. If we’re talking about who had the biggest impact in rock music, who was the most influential and who was the most successful between all the bands that have existed only one band always comes out on top and that’s The Beatles. They have been given the title of greatest rock band of all time much like Elvis has been given the title of king of rock and neither will be dethroned at this point tbh.

The fact that AC/DC isn't even top 10 is criminal. They fit every criteria for greatest rock bands to ever live. They are still doing it til' this day, they have some of the most classic rock songs that are still popular to this day, they have the 2nd best selling album of all time, they are one of the best selling artists of all time, and countless other things. @Niki166 This wasn't "most successful" or "most talented" rock bands. It was "greatest rock bands." You may not like it, but they are top 5. And who's more successful than AC/DC? Besides the obvious Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. Even In terms of sales AC/DC is still top 5

Good choice and commendable effort... always tough for an universally pleasing roll of honors. Perhaps the 70s has some of the best true blue rock bands eg. I'd say putting Queen at #3 is really exaggerating it.Also, personally I'd switch The Who and The Rolling Stones.Queen and The Rolling Stones are two of the most legendary and revered bands of all time, no doubt they have lots of amazing songs the genre can be known for but the problem with them is that their discography is full of bland fillers compared to The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, both of them are completely in a different league to all the bands on the list. For one, I can put Pink Floyd at the #3 instead of Queen because Pink Floyd's 1973-1979 run might be the best 4 album run ever.Again, outside of Pink Floyd's 70s output, their discography is just as bland as Queen's but at least Pink Floyd has that 4 album peak which Queen doesn't. That's just me though.
The Rolling Stones have a bland discography?Mate please. Aftermath, Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main St., Goats Head Soup, Some Girls and Tattoo You are classic rock n roll albums especially the first four. The Rolling Stones in my opinion are by far the most interesting lyricists here. They should be Top 2 or Top 3.
@@dice1296 I disagree. Brian is one of the most talented guitarists of all time, Roger is a fantastic drummer, and John is maybe the most underrated bassist in history.
I pretty much agree here. But I've come to put The Beatles into their own category by themselves, they were so far ahead of anybody before, during or since their period. I put Zep at #1 easy - unmatched musicianship, songwriting, creativity and versatility. The Floyd and Queen are good at #3 and #4, The Stones belong on the bottom half of the list IMHO, Sabbath is also too high, the rest could be in almost any order. BUT THERE IS A HUGE, MAJOR AND GLARING OMISSION HERE! WHERE IS YES??
I feel The Yardbirds should have been on this list. They are credited with being one of the pioneers of psychedelic rock and they had a number of amazing songs. Not to mention they once had Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page as their guitarists. That's pretty impressive.
Queen were massive way before the movie outside of the USA. I saw an old newspaper online which was from 1980 and it featured an interview of Freddie Mercury by David wigg and it said that queen had sold 45 million albums and 25 million singles. That’s a total of 70 million records in total in just 7 years. Which most bands won’t achieve in their lifetime. Then in the mid 80s they reached their legendary status basically everywhere except for the USA.
Whether or not you agree with the order of this list, it cannot be denied that every band on this list can inspire you to pick up an instrument and write something that carries the torch they pass to you in their music. I don't understand how Red Hot Chili Peppers are not on this list though.
Only thing I'd add to this would be giving Tony Iommi more credit for creating heavy metal. They started as a blues band called Earth and the day before going on their first tour Tony was working in a factory cutting sheet metal and on his last day they put him on a machine he never worked before and the machine came down on his right hand cutting off two finger tips. Playing was too painful so he melted bottle caps and capped them with leather but it was still too uncomfortable so he down tuned his guitar which gave the blues sound a more dark heavy tone and that's credited as creating the sound of metal.

Listing the 20 greatest rock bands is a tough task, but any list will be subjective. Other great bands that could have made this list include Journey, Van Halen, Kiss, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Toto and Rush among many others. It's a little surprising you didn't mention how Led Zeppelin ended after the death of John Bonham.
Not so much subjective as weighted heavily by the generation making the list.
I Agree Steve to All those Bands you Mentioned should be on the List I Include Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, U2, Genesis, YES, ELO, REO Speedwagon, Chicago, The Police, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Deep Purple, Rage Against The Machine, Deftones, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, The Grateful Dead, Lynard Skynyrd, Coldplay, Blondie, Velvet Underground, The Kinks, The Hollies, Buffalo Springfield, The Bryds, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, The Black Crowes, Cream and On and On There's So Many Great Bands I Can go On With More. Know your Music Folks!!!!!
I also feel like dire Straits isnt mentioned enough the whole Brothers in arms album is a masterpiece
John🩷Paul🩷George🩷Ringo
The Beatles forever!
20 great bands indeed, but some picks are debatable since huge influential bands with decades long careers have been left out. Rush, U2, Pearl Jam and REM come to mind. but there’s more. The Smiths didn’t have a long life, but they were hugely influential as well.
if influence is a criteria, VU is for sure on the list. good call on U2 and r.e.m. PJ was never getting on seeing as they took a back seat (or a side seat, anyway) to nirvana. those first 4 albums were pretty terrific though
I was shocked to not see U2, and Rush doesn't get the appreciation they deserve.

Whether or not you agree with the order of this list, it cannot be denied that every band on this list can inspire you to pick up an instrument and write something that carries the torch they pass to you in their music. I don't understand how Red Hot Chili Peppers are not on this list though.
or Foo Fighters

Only thing I'd add to this would be giving Tony Iommi more credit for creating heavy metal. They started as a blues band called Earth and the day before going on their first tour Tony was working in a factory cutting sheet metal and on his last day they put him on a machine he never worked before and the machine came down on his right hand cutting off two finger tips. Playing was too painful so he melted bottle caps and capped them with leather but it was still too uncomfortable so he down tuned his guitar which gave the blues sound a more dark heavy tone and that's credited as creating the sound of metal.
