Before anything, I just wish I had better-quality audio for this Qawwali. But for those that want to study and understand this Qawwali, this audio will work.
This particular piece is actually two separate Qawwali joined one after another. It starts off with the writings of Hazrat Baba Fareed whose given name was "Masood". And the second half is writings from Hazrat Ahmad Jaam. This is different from Maulana Abdur Rahman Jami who is mostly associated with the name "Jami". I'm guessing Qawwals sometimes combine separate Qawwali because the stanzas match in the balance, so they can sing two separate pieces as one large Qawwali. Secondly, the topics of the poems may resemble also each other.
Subject:
Baba Fareed (RA) continuously implores the readers to understand that "It's Not Him". It started with a famous miracle when he gave someone a plain ordinary brick as a means of financial assistance, and later the brick turned into gold. When the masses came to him in devotion to such a miracle, Baba Fareed (RA) would weep and say, "Man Niyam Wallah".
Guft:
I often find Hazrat Ameer Khusro's line, "Guft Mehboobe Ilaahi", which in this case is incorrect by the Qawwal; since the lines following are said by Hazrat Nizamuddin's Sheikh, Baba Fareed.
Jaane Jaanam:
In the original Kalaam, it is "Sirre Sirram, Jaane Jaanam, Tan Niyam". In either case, Baba Fareed is pointing to the mystery of the origin of humanity. How Allah breathed his own soul into Hazrat Aadam (AS).
Kore Chasmañ:
Blind here of course doesn't mean those with a physical disability. But those who choose to overlook or even refute certain truths. One of the Sufi Pros that come to mind is: "One Who Doesn't Recognize the Truth, Is Blind. One Who Recognizes Yet Refuses, Is Kafir."
Noore Nooram:
When Allah says in the Hadith Qudsi, that he created everything from Noor-e-Muhammad. And Noor is Allah's divine light. It may not be easy to display through experimentation, but we too are made of that light. And so is the being of Rasulallah (SAW) himself. However, the concentration of that Noor is vastly different between us.
Man Aliyam Man Nabi:
Here's where most people seem to lose the meaning a bit. Yes, (he) does say he's Ali and Nabi. But remember, he's already said, "It's Not Me!" earlier. So whatever remains seems to be declaring this. By no means is Hazrat Khwaja Fareed-ud-Deen personally claiming to be Allah's Messenger, after Prophet Muhammad (SAW). What he is saying is that within this being we call Baba Fareed, these claims are all that really have remained.
Roghan Niyam:
We are not the physicality but the soul within this organism. We are not our hands and feet. We're not even the brain or even our thoughts. Thoughts too are ingredients of training, our life experiences, and our surroundings. We are something much beyond all this.
Manzile Ishq:
Here's where the Qawwal starts with the writings of Hazrat Ahmad Jaam of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order. Poet was asked how Hazrat Ahmad Jaam was different than any other Maulana clergy. He explains in this poem that not all with similar titles are the same. Makaan (Physical Place) and Manzil (Destination) may both be referring to a point to make the journey to, but they're not the same. He describes that those that have gone through longing pains of Allah's love are of a different creed altogether.
Khanjare Tasleem:
Many a time Sufi poets use extreme words like dagger, sword, slay, death, etc. But one must understand these are not to be taken literally, it's poetry after all. Here, Khanjare Tasleem is translated as Dagger of Submission. When one bows or submits to the will of another, it's like a dagger to the ego.
Az Gheib Jaane:
And here, he clears it up by explaining that the revival from the ego's death is even mightier than the life before.
Madrasa:
He explains that schools will teach all that can be read in a book and memorized. But experiencing love is a whole other subject that cannot be taught in a school. It's a bit of a jab at the Muslim clergy who sometimes very aggressively denounce all forms of creativity, different viewpoints, etc.
Gumm Na Kardi:
While he jabs at the clergy, he holds the same measure to this fellow Sufis as he makes a similar jab. He advises himself (and those of his community), never to let go of composure (or even rationality which includes proper etiquette) in the passion of emotions towards God. He even contemplates that this control may vanish at some point. And yet still, to remain composed until it's no longer in control.
