Oh... there is an intersection in the front of the tool which was designed specially for that. I wouldn't say it's the best bait tuner, but it does the job when needed....

You're not using the hook tie correctly. You didn't put your line through the eye of the hook first.
You can do it both ways, and it works perfectly...
