Growing up, bands like A7x, Atreyu, Bullet fm Valentine, Within Tempation, In This Moment, etc. I loved these bands to death. Because not only were they great, they changed over time. Every album was unique songs all over the place. And reviews were all saying 70% of the album is trash cause it's not screaming or heavy while the screaming parts are great. Or it's too mainstream blah blah blah. I never thought about them as mainstream. I thought of them as them doing something that's not just being heavy for the sake of being heavy and not selling out just to make money. I always joke I'm bipolar so I tend to like metalcore or post hardcore, whatever you want to call them, bands cause they mix melodic with heavy. But it's not just about mixing it it's how well they mix it. Of course I fell out of love with every single one of these bands. But I'm pickier than ever. No band really impresses me for more than 2 to 3 songs per album anyways. And I tend to go back and catch up after taking breaks. I learn to appreciate the style changes over time. Like Nightmare, I hated that album with a passion. Now I love it. It's not my favorite but it's got lots of play time from me. Hail to the King I haven't went back to. I found it pretty blah cause it sounded like all those old bands with little variation. It's still great for what it is, but I don't feel the need to hear it. Maybe one day I'll go back to it. Stage got old to me quick after loving it at first. I miss the aggressive passion. I want City of Evil level passion or songs as odd yet bad ass as white album/Diamonds in the rough
Underrated comment of the year. Hail to the king, meh. The stage was great when it came out, but I lost interest after like 10 listens to the album. City of Evil, absolute pure gold.
truth is city of evil had such depth, it feels like there are 100 instruments playing and all of them are doing a lot of crazy different stuff not just holding the same chord, its like listening to a symphony, and its beautiful, these new stuff just isnt like that, hail to the king seems to be quite the opposite of that actually, just oversimplifying stuff, its boring and feels like we have already listened to something similar but better in the past because we have
No thanks, they have already matured into great experimental songs, playing vanilla metalcore again would be a shame. They already made that mistake with hail to the king. Bands should look forward, not repeating things of the past.

Okay, hearing him actually talk about it has my interest peaked. At first I was like “what the HELL is going on?” But I listened to the two singles again and hearing it put into words of both you and Matt I think I might still be on board a little bit.

Not to look down on other bands but i do feel that they repeat themselves alot in every album but for Avenged... I feel its not so. They surely know how to keep the listeners attention going each album. It makes you keep coming back to them.

Worse of it is it still sounds trash.
The mentality for this upcoming album would be GREAT- for today's pop music. This genre needs to have more flavor extracted out of it, and this could be the way to do it. But Metal- doesn't need that. Hope they'll make me eat my own words. But I do believe there is something there with leaving an overall vibe of an album behind and just go anywhere with it. Could make genres more meaningless, which I hate. But I think people are slowly gonna adjust to this idea of a blender full of different ingredients rarher than this followed recipe that gives you a product everyone loves.

Nobody is in my Top 3 A7X. Ever since listening I have developed a god complex. It’s a blessing and a curse.

The Stage was an absolute masterpiece. Such an underrated record.
