I love watching teachers set up their class rooms! You hear parents say "it's time for you to go back to school" it's cool to see the set up of that space that saves parents sanity!
That’s how my classroom is set-up. I have built in shelf’s the length of one wall with my teacher desk right in front of them and then my smart board hook up and phone are on the opposite wall with a small table for myself to have my laptop and document camera set up. I like it because it forces me to get more steps in even when I am just working in my classroom without students.
I teach 7th grade and I completely agree with what you’re saying! I had to move classrooms this year, and also teach a new content. It’s a lot of work! I’ve taught for 14 years, it never gets easier to move classrooms/content. No one realizes all the work that teachers do on nights, weekends, summers, etc. Keep up the vlogs, we enjoy them!
I am definitely going to invest in a wagon so I won’t need to ask the custodians for a flatbed. Plus, flatbeds can be tricky to move through different doors.
@@artecrafter4349 They sit on benches, so they're not on the floor. I always give them the option to sit on a chair or to sit at their desk but I would say 90% of the time they choose to sit with the group. I've taught both ways - group meeting arrangement and them at their seats and I find the engagement and discussion is so much stronger when they're all together. I've taught in classrooms where it wasn't possible in the space and really missed it. Also I'm in Canada so in Grade 6 they are 10/11. I do find by the end of the year they're starting to "grow out of" the group meeting area so we switch it up. I love watching these kinds of videos from you! I feel like I learn from you just from watching the way you problem solve and tackle large jobs. Though I'm not a teacher myself, I can apply your tactics to other areas of my life. Best of luck with your new grade, I'm so excited to watch your journey!
I love videos like this. It allows me know that it is real and I am not the only one that has to organize their teaching before you can think straight.
This just shows how much work, time, energy, and effort it takes to set-up a classroom. Most people only want to see the pretty end product and not the grinding it takes to get to that. I won't start this process until next month. You're doing great!
Just found you ...thanks for sharing the nitty gritty -- I am moving ROOMS (not grade level) and my anxiety is THROUGH THE ROOF -- haven't had time to get inside my (NEW) room yet, that happens tomorrow! Can't wait to see what else you do!
I am currently interning at a school during there summer school. The school is 6-12. I love it. You are going to love 6th grade. Only thing I noticed is trying to keep kiddos on task is the only issue. Love older kiddos cause they work independently, very engaged, and they understand jokes. I don't plan on being a teacher. I want to go into school counseling. I want to be that ear to guide them through the rough times.
This is so exciting! I know you feel overwhelmed, but you will do fine. Believe it or not, a lot of the comprehension material will be stuff that you can recycle through even in 6th grade depending on the level of your students. Plus, you can create worksheets to beef up the rigor that you have. Math fact practice will always be needed. I have friends who have gone from third to sixth and have said that a lot of what you have taught is what they are working on with a few more components added. Looking forward to more great things to come!😊
Best of luck to you in your third year of teaching. It takes you three years to get used to the teaching profession, but this year will be a bit more challenging because you have switched grade levels. You will do fine. Consider yourself blessed that you have so much natural light from all of the windows in your classroom. Now that you moved your two green chairs, I wonder if you can ask your principal to get that television out of the room and not pose a risk to students who are reading in the corner.
I just concluded my Day 4 of setting up my room and it's crazy the amount of time we spend setting up. I started making piles in the middle of the room too and it works! Thanks for your channel. Can't wait to see your new journey. Love your POS comment. Lol.
I absolutely LOVE your color theme! I might just copy you next year. I love it! Please keep making videos. I enjoy watching you, you are so motivational!
Love watching your classroom set-up. I love your color scheme ~ it is mine also. I am also thinking about setting up my classroom and you are giving me some awesome ideas! Can't wait to see the finish classroom!!
Fellow 6th grade teacher! I personally prefer to teach to the longer side of the classroom. 📼So the room is not long but wide. This 📼not this📱That way kids are closer to the board. If that made any sense! You figure out what you want but your projector will never be moved most likely! Good luck
Just found your channel and I love it already!! I’m a bus driver at the moment getting my BA soon to be a teacher and I’m hooked on these videos and you show it all and I love it 💜
I was sitting on the edge of my seat when you were sorting the expo markers not knowing if you were sorting by color. Haha! What a relief! You did! Haha! I enjoy watching other people organize. #weirdlikethat
I love you videos! I’m 25 years old and just starting my 4 years of school for a bachelor in early childhood education!! I can’t wait to be putting together my first classroom! Thanks for the inspiration!
I love that you test the markers and pens before deciding to keep them! Good tip (it took me like 8 years of teaching to start doing that haha). It’s also a good student job for end of the year packing.
Thank you for sharing the details of the move!! We appreciate seeing the good, the bad and the ugly!! You always do a great job, and help motivate me to get cracking!! 😘❤️😘❤️😘❤️
Even though these videos aren’t actual set up of the classroom, I love them because they’re real. I am currently taking classes in high school on the career pathway of elementary education and I couldn’t be more excited. When you start teaching 6th grade, will you make a video on moving grades as a whole, and specifically to 6th grade? Also, how do you survive planning for a new grade? Do you rely on the curriculum heavily or does your state/district let you adapt your lessons?
One thing I just thought of that you might need to know is that 6th graders smell a lot worse than 3rd graders especially after a day or physical activity outside PE Time anything like that. I taught 6th grade for 2 periods of the day at the end of the day in West Texas just very hot most of the time and honestly 32 6th graders pre-adolescents in the afternoon and a portable was almost unbearable.🤪 So, I want to tell you to make sure that your room is properly ventilated and that you may be stock up on some kind of bath & body wallflower or febreze clips or febreze spray or something along those lines just to make your classroom a little bit more appealing especially at the end of the day. 😁😄
I teach 5th and have spray deodorant that I tell my students they can use anytime. Lol. I don’t tell them to use it, I just remind them that it’s there.... 😂
In California, per the Williams Facility Laws, you cannot have plug in air fresheners in the classroom. Cleaning supplies can be used, but must be kept in locked cabinets. It is true that the BO Fairy visits kids around fifth and sixth grades.
I’m teaching Primary 6 in Scotland which I think it 4th grade in the US. This means I’ve been following you for a year now. I’ve been teaching 14 years now but was out of class for 5 and only got back in last year. You inspired me to have a colour scheme and the kids loved it. I chose multicolour and I’ll keep it going this year. Even my line manager commented on how great my room looked. Funny coz at home it’s minimalist grey and white only. Love these videos. Thank you. 💕
I am so with you!! I dump everything in the middle of my room and sort from there! I am also in a similar position as you. I have been an elementary teacher for 13 years and now I’m moving to 8th with nothing, but my entire office at home is filled with my 5th grade stuff. Wondering how you are planning on handling the stuff you don’t need.

Totally excited because I'm told it's the best grade ever! lol Yesterday was the first day we were allowed in the classroom to get started with set up and omg lots of work ahead and I'm already scatter brained. Good luck with everything!
Going through and storing your 3rd grade extras is a good idea. However, don't put it so far away that you can't get to it quickly. You may need it to fill-in gaps for some lower level students. I was a Special Needs teacher for over 13 years and always had curriculum ranging from 2nd-6th on hand.
People always ask me why I have so many things but they don't understand we never know what grade were going to teach from year to year. I'm glad you haven't had to pay for all your stuff. I've bought all mine!! Do you think you can show how you organize your storage at home??
