I stopped wearing makeup at about the age of 30. Here's what I realized - I spent a good portion of my life running away from the rain and avoiding sweating. Now I'm in my 40's and am more physically active than I was in my 20's. I ride my bike to work in the rain because all I need is a towel to dry my face. If I could give any advice to young women, *save your makeup for special occasions and live your life instead.*

PS. It's easy to fall for the pressure to look good. Using makeup, trying to keep up with fast fashion etc. I wish we all could just be ourselves, no pressure, no stress, no judgement. But - I reckon that's too good to be true right... Sad. I especially feel sad when I see young teens trying to look like some famous person. DS.

Ps. Yes, I completely agree. And the fast fashion has such horrid consequences to the environment. As I grow older I become less and less interested in trying to be like other people and I think it’s something we should value from an early age. Maybe we need to change something in school!

Yeah i kind feel that because I'm 15 and i have never shaved nothing in my body. And by my will and be only i love myself as nature made me. And i don't want to change that. Nad if i imagine to shave you know my legs will feel very weird. And like something of ,e is missing plus I'm a lot out in nature and i know that the hair in the armpits is good for reducing friction when you exercise. And in general the hair is to manage the temperature in the body for when is too hot or too cold. So i know they are good for me and i love me as i am. But even if no one except my little brother has said to me something. Is the thing that for some reason you are expected to shave your body hair at a point and later to always do it. And people find it weird if you not. But isn't that the normal? Anyway i can say that i will some what of a pressure to do so. But i know that it will be disastrous for me because it will not be for me or to feel better. It will he forthe others. And i know from now that i will regret it so no. But i know that there's pressure because if i was a boy i wouldn't feel like that and of course i will have kept everything so I'm going to be me and now. Is like that if you don't like dark hair what I'm going to die my natural dark hair blonde for to be aesthetic pleasing for you or like random people. But still a lots of women hate doing it only do it out of pressure of the society. And it is bad. That you cannot be the natural you and be you without that being the non weird anyway habe a nice day or night reader ❤

Interesting, as someone from the Caribbean, wearing makeup at school is forbidden. School is for learning not looking pretty. We were allowed to wear lip balm and we must go to school wearing a uniform being a specific length. Also our hair must be in its natural state with little to no accessories. Most Caribbean girls have no problems not wearing makeup. For me I don't wear it

I am 58 years old. I have never worn foundation in my life. I have nothing to conceal. Have been taking care of my skin since I was 11. Two things. Exfoliation and Hydration. That is all you need. If you exfoliate regularly and use a very good moisturizer, you can do this for years until you become my age and go makeup free and look fabulous. I get compliments on my glowing skin constantly. Makeup ruins skin. It really does. All the chemicals destroy your skin over time and it ages you. It's a mask. It's fake. Nobody needs it. Just drink lots of water daily and treat your skin well. You will look beautiful for life

    • @blitzkrieg6872

@@DulcePerle Thanks for asking! My reply will be rather lengthy. I use two products from a terrific anti-aging skin care line called "Exuviance" by the Neo Strata Laboratories. I buy them at Ulta Beauty, but they also have a website online. The two products I use and have for years are 1. Radiance Serum. 2. Age Reverse Hydrafirm. These two products are so great. The serum acts as a gentle chemical exfoliant and a hydrator at the same time. No redness or peeling, ever. Full of antioxidants. The second one is the best moisturizer I have EVER used and I have used many different brands over the years. For the two products it comes to about 180.00. Worth. Every. Penny.
I only do my skincare routine once a day and that is in the morning. I use a simple all natural Aloe Vera bar soap that I buy at Sprouts. It's not good to wash your face more than once a day because you will strip the layer of good bacteria that protects your lipid barrier. I also should mention that I am a longtime mountain trail hiker/runner and this is also an important reason for my good skin health because it is oxygenated. I drink tons of water. Three liters per day. I have never worn sun screen in my life and have no sun damage or wrinkles. None. This is because of exfoliating for many years. Exfoliation promotes cell turnover and collagen production which leads to a very strong and healthy lipid barrier. Strong lipid barrier leads to a very natural and constant glow that is very youthful. Skin has it's own metabolism. Exercise is anti-aging and strenuous exercise (like running) releases a protein which is anti-aging.
I am caucasian and have a light year round tan. As I said, I have never worn foundation because I have nothing to conceal. I still wear eye makeup and lipstick because I love it. I still want some color and glamour. It's just that when you take very good care of your skin for many years in a row, you don't have to wear foundation and therefore, you will look younger. Foundation hides the glow to your skin that looks youthful. I wrote my first comment when I was 58. Now, I will be 60 next October. I still don't have any wrinkles at all and a constant youthful glow. Not saying any of this to brag. It's just the truth and my hope is to offer valuable information and to help any other woman who reads this, because all of us women want to age well and look as beautiful as we possibly can throughout our lives. Happy Springtime to everyone and good luck on your skincare journey!

@@bernadettenovembreofficial I'm glad you liked my comment. I think of makeup as any other addiction. It creates a dependency. Foundation deteriorates and ages the skin. The chemicals degrade the skin tissues. They are toxic. Then when the skin becomes bad looking, women must slather on more foundation to cover up the bad skin that the foundation created in the first place. It's better to go without it and put very good care into the health of the skin. Bare skin that is healthy looks so much younger and fresher.

I am heading in this direction. Listening to your words feels so encouraging. I started having adult acne at 18. And it lasted over 2 decades. I felt I needed makeup to leave the house. One time I answered the door with a bare face and the neighbor children looked horrified. They asked if I had a disease. They didn't mean any harm, but that day I vowed to myself that I would not even answer my door without make up on. I've been dealing more with my inner world and have experienced a lot of healing. My skin has been clearing up as a result of learning to love and accept myself. It's kind of just been a natural transition now to wear less and less makeup. I find myself preferring my bare face. And I've switched to healthier brands for when I do dress up and want a more dramatic look

I was told as I was growing up “you don’t need makeup” and I had A LOT of pressure to do it too!
When I was young I had a roommate that was a third generation professional photographer. He shot the best and the most popular events in America and in Europe. He always told me that there is not one photo that hasn’t been touched up in someway. He said there’s no such thing as “perfect”. He appreciated women that did not wear make up or at least or extremely minimal make up. It was interesting because he noticed things like clean feet and hands which included nails etc. I thought that was an interesting outlook of a professional photographer in the industry of beauty.

@@SagaJohanna I have found that men usually like women that don’t wear a lot of makeup. Maybe they don’t want to wake up next to a woman that looks totally different than she did when they were out the night before..?🤔😂
Then there’s men that LOVE that look of big “purchased” body parts, nails etc. I guess they want their woman to be “arm candy” and it makes them feel good..?
I’m just guessing since I’m not a man…just a woman that’s been around in the 80s when I was young and didn’t wear much makeup and I worked in the music industry.
I remember when I was 16 and I worked in a warehouse at Best Products if you’re old enough to remember that place..ha ha…I was dating a guy that just started working there and we went to a fancy Christmas party with everyone we worked with. I had my hair done, mostly just blow dried out my long hair with a bit of that “big hair” look that was so popular in the 80s and instead of being in Levi’s, T-shirt and vans which I “covered up” my figure as well. I went to the party and I was wearing a purple jumpsuit with spaghetti straps, high heels and I didn’t cover up ALL of my athletic figure. Plus my make up matched the purple I was wearing and that was rare.
It actually took people that I worked with for months a few hours before they realized who I was!😂
I thought that was so darn funny!🤔🤣
Now that I am in my 50s I sure do miss that figure that I had. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a frumpy looking but I’m older and not as athletic as I was then…but I can still USE makeup and clothes and not look too bad even now. Thank God!😂
Thank you for taking the time to post your reply. It brought back some memories that I haven’t thought of in a long time.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and a very blessed new year.🙏🏻⛄️🎉

The only thing I do wear is lipstick, and not even that all the time. I have wrinkles around my mouth so lipstick can be a hassle to wear, but it does add some color to my face so I don't look sickly. My only wish is that I had taken better care of my skin when I was younger. I've gone chemical free, making my own face and body oils. What an authentic video! You’re wise to make these choices at such a young age. I’m 73 & have always been self-conscious about my appearance, especially my skin. I picked at my skin daily as a younger person, thinking I could rid myself of those imperfections. Of course, all I did was make things worse, including causing scars.
A few months ago I came across a TH-cam channel, Peqches skin care. The woman advocates not wearing anything but moisturizer & some powdered blush, if needed. Also, simple eye makeup, if desired. I don’t do that anymore bc of issues with ophthalmic rosacea. I’ve been amazed at how freeing it is NOT to wear makeup! Quicker too! I feel so much more at ease with myself. Keep up the good work! Hi Saga, thank you for sharing the link to this excellent video! I had actually watched it before, and it helped inspire me to throw my mascara in the garbage. I have never really worn makeup on my skin since I was a teenager and one of my big brothers teased me about it. Luckily, I do have a pretty nice complexion, even as I am aging. But, I have always worn mascara; while I have an amber brown eye color, my eyelashes are pretty long, but they are also pretty blonde. Like you, I also have what you called "see-through" Swedish eyebrows, being a strawberry blonde redhead, and part Swedish. So I have always said that my eyes without mascara "fade into oblivion." I finally decided like you that I simply want to be me-I think trying to be confident in who we are, rather than in what we think the world wants to see, well that's what's important...and letting our inner beauty come out is what counts the most! You are decades younger than I am, so bravo for you to find this understanding at such a young age! Oh, and what I hope to see you do is to show the "true colors" behind a lot of make-up, the cruelty that is behind so many cosmetics and beauty products of all kinds. Your "Be kind to animals" t-shirt is just what we should all be! 💖

However, recently I was in a bit of a skincare-tryout-phase (cause my skin was not beautiful enough in my opinion, blackheads and acne and the usual things) and the only thing that happened is that I have dermatitis now. Made me realize once again how unhealthy the perfectionism regarding the own skin actually is, and that usually products that are meant to solve problems will only create more (like foundation did for me as well). Having really bad hormonal acne and dermatillomania (and I'm 30!), i literally can't go out without make up and I know it's a vicious circle because obviously the make-up doesn't help my skin on the long run... but it does help me not to pick my skin as much and it gives me the self-confidence boost I need to be able to go out. I really wish I can stop wearing it someday, but right now, it's complicated.

    This‼️
It took me half my life to learn not to do something because it's normal or fashionable or suitable. It took so long to finally find myself, buried under the norms of others.
Since then I do and behave my way in my style, including everything, from dust till dawn. And surprise, surprise: people respect that and encourage me, some can copy something and learn, as I still do also. It's an ongoing process. Its life.
I can allow myself this freedom because I don't restrict the freedom of others and because I luckily live here (in my country) and now. A few decades or hundreds of years back I had to seak out the life of a hermit if I had even survived the first few years.

Now my acne is gone as I am in my thirties but I have bags under the eyes and the first wrinkels are appearing, I look tired and sad without make up. In my opinion, make up is an enhancement of what you already have. Make up is only one look. I stopped wearing foundation in my 20s because it felt like a mask and was so time consuming. I would for special occasions. In my 30s I eliminated it completely and only use eye and lip make up for special occasions. I think of myself as multifaceted. I change my looks according to what I am doing and the variety quite comfortable with this. I wish I had discovered this years ago and saved myself a lot of trouble.

I really don't wear makeup. I have worn some, but I absolutely hate it. It feels discusting. High school was why I decided to wear makeup not because I wanted to but started feeling like, "Well, I guess I have to." (sigh...) IF today I wear any, all it is, is just some mascara and that is it. I wear a tone of chapstick. I keep my face clean, washed, and moisturized. Pluck wild hairs on my eyebrows and keep it's natural shape and my eyebrows are actually naturally dark, but even if they weren't, what is up with all the women in the world painting their eyebrows, doing really weird makeup crap to it. And i am a natural blonde.

I think social media has played a big role in teens' lives. They always look to others (and their unrealistic depictions in photos) to compare themselves to. Girls did wear makeup at parties in the 80's but rarely in school. There's some top Swedish skiers that do not wear any makeup (or so it seems) and they look fine doing interviews on TV. Better in fact without makeup. Now, even some men do wear makeup (eyeliner).

It's interesting to hear from a punk/goth style perspective as well! I think that maybe a truer version of that style could be without makeup. There is such an extreme focus currently on a very specific way of doing makeup, that is if anything generic. From "heavy" to "natural", all these makeup looks have the same techniques, products, and produces the same "perfected" face.

For once I have a different approach 😂... I have never worn make up on a daily (except mascara) basis until I got 35. I never felt beautiful with makeup. Now I know why: it made my skin very dry.
In a minimalism inspired time in my life where I wanted to bring awereness to different areas in my life I began to take more care on myself, my skin, my clothes, my nutrition etc.
I tried organic brands that produce skincare products and also makeup. Now I care better for my skin and I appreciate makeup now.

I started selling Avon when I was fourteen as my first job. I loved playing with it as I also loved art. At an older age I again started selling makeup for Mary Kay. My supervisor would give us self esteeem talks to give us the idea that we would look & feel better with make up on. Now I am older I can’t be bothered wearing it. I would rather not wear any - it melts in the hot weather, is a nuisance swimming or having to be conscious as to not smudge mascara or lipstick. The only thing I wear now is moisturiser. When the jar is empty I will try an oil maybe vegetable oil. When I was a young teenager before selling make up, I used to experiment with face masks hand made from food.

Oh how I wish more people thought the same way about makeup as you. It is fun for theater, but every day, yuck. It is sad that women are brainwashed into believing they are not good enough or pretty enough, if they don't "take care of themselves".
Another worry I have is about sunscreen. Have you ever read the labels on it? We mindlessly slather our children with sunscreen to keep them "safe" from skin cancer, but the chemicals in sunscreen are toxic.
I am new to your channel and just watched your video on minimalism and living in a van. It is interesting how people can live so small. Because I have a messy and very dusty hobby, living that small would be impossible, unless I lived in a sunny place year-round so I could do it outside. The one thing that had me curious was the toile in the kitchen. It's convenient for hand washing, but when you have to go, does your husband have to go outside? I would not want to use a toilet in that small of a place.
More power to you in being able to live like you do, but I would find it hard.

Make up will never be art for the daily person. Art is a statement while you putting make up on your face is you making up a lie, putting a mask, transforming yourself into something else. Anybody making up their face is lying to themselves and others. No wonder guys wants to see woman without their make up. The ones saying you need make up just wants to be rude, cause makeup doesn't fix anything but give you fake expectations. Make up = transformation, It's not an upgrade or enhancing. Make up is ONLY for movies, acting or ads to portray another person.

Construction industry is pretty lenient unless you're in marketing or in the service industry. There are times i overslept and freshen up. Put on sunscreen and get off to work. I could tell you there will be those who says the wear make up for creativity or something but not for guys. (Tbh, i think its just murican self woke BS toxic feminism). From a perspective of an asian who actually born and raised in asia, we be 100% honest. There's no sugarcoating. Look, we all know we wear makeup to look attractive and we Asians cut to the chase. Unlike western counterparts, where they think woman is better than all (toxic feminism BS). This is getting out of topic but why muricans are so weird. Why do the females think they want equality but do not want the responsibility? If you want equality that much at least split the bill on the first date or the woman pays on the first date? Or maybe woman can apply to be in the front lines in army? Hypocrite much? Idk, but Americans has always been hypocrites. Promoting world peace but invading other countries as well. Jusy saying. Mind your own business. No one needs a big brother anymore. South Korea can fend for themselves or rather yet. Let them crash and burn so that i can see the toxic kpop fans reaction. Thanks for your comment

Am I the only one who got into a makeup because I enjoyed the colors and the creativity? I never used it to hide things or because of insecurities, I just like to draw and it's more acceptable to draw on your eyelids than to draw all over your arms

I think you might haha :) It's not so common, but it's absolutely cool! I love the look of makeup without foundation! Have you seen purple palace? here looks are crazy and amazing

You are beautiful as you are! Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I remember realizing during the finale of the first season of the TV show "Survivor", how everyone looked so much better without make-up when stranded on their deserted island than during the reunion all dressed up with full make-up. Ok, that show is way before your time.

Thank you so much! Haha, we have a similar show in Sweden (I think), called "Robinson", that was on TV in the early 2000's. I imagine that was the same!

This year I decided to stop wearing makeup and somehow it has improved my self esteem, throughout my entire life I had an extremely low self esteem almost non existent, and people around me picked up on that not my parents, but others in my family", friends " whom I thought were friends and just the general public, I had constant put downs passively aggressive behavior and insults directly to my face, I had a spiritual awakening and changed my religion from Christianity and distanced myself from everyone who practiced that religion, I distanced myself from those who put me down and I removed negative energy and people from my life, I decided it was time for makeup to be removed from my life as well, it had never helped me feel better about myself, so why wear it? I am happier I still suffer from a slight self esteem but nothing even close to what I experienced before, I run into people I used to know don't speak to them just pass them by and they give me an evil look they are upset I no longer am a punching bag, I never will be stepped on again and I'm proudly wearing my face I was born with instead of a pile of makeup...in my opinion only the joker looks good in makeup.😜

I can't believe you'd even consider wearing make-up. Your so resplendently beautiful -- make-up would simply defile your beauty.

I love this! More of us need to go makeup free and go against the billion dollar companies profiting off women’s insecurities.

Thank you for this video, glad I found your channel today. I never liked makeup and only used it for around 4 years in my life (I'm 31 atm). I don't feel confident at all and still dislike my face as I have a lot of scars, hyperpigmentation and texture because of acne (had problems with acne for 17 years :/). But I am on the journey to accept and love myself more now, it definitely isn't easy. Many of your points resonate with me so much, I definitely struggle with spending too much time in front of the mirror (too close for sure) and picking at my skin, I will try to consciously change those habits and remind myself daily that it doesn't help. I wish all the best to everyone struggling with their appearance, we can learn to love ourselves just the way we are!

2:57 I agree sm, I could never wear foundation or concealer bc it looks so bad and fake irl, it highlights my pores and texture
    Fantastic video! ❤
